NSFs SERVING BMT IN PULAU TEKONG GOT ‘HO LIAO’ TO EAT FOR CNY

0

Dr Ng Eng Hen, Singapore’s Minister for Defence recently shared on his Facebook page about the special meals served to our recruits serving their Basic Military Training (BMT) at Pulau Tekong.

According to the Minister’s post on Facebook, the recruits were served baked duck with lemongrass and coriander or steamed fish as their main course, topped with pineapple tarts for their dessert.

Each boy was also given two mandarin oranges for their meal.

Here is the Minister’s post

“Do BMT recruits at Basic Military Training Centre get a special Lunar New Year menu at the cookhouse? Yes! Baked duck with lemongrass and coriander or steamed fish (年年有余) and of course, pineapple tarts as dessert.”

Here is a photo of the meal that was served to the recruits

  • Absolutely sumptuous and remembering back in my BMT Days and pretty good serve too
  • Wow, that’s very nice. I never had such nice meal during my days in services.
  • It’s very heartwarming to know this especially if they have to be in camp while other people get to celebrate CNY with family. I hope they get a bit more time to eat and enjoy the food too. Kinda assuring for me as a mum of 2 little boys who will serve NS one day. Hope that Sg continues to take care of our children when they are on the call of duty.
  • Wow during my time, the only duck we had was duck walks around parade square.
  • he makan time so short only before you can finish everything need to fall in already
  • Actually SAF had gone far for many years. The daily food and accommodation are great. Unlike 40+ years ago when we get “rubber band” bee hoon, “Granade” eggs (surely can kill people) etc. Enjoy it and stop complaining about SAF and it’s food. Young man appreciate what you get and stop complaining. SAF is the best place to be.

WOMAN LOSING ATTRACTION TO BF BECAUSE HE’S CHEAP, REFUSE TO SPEND EVEN $10 ON HER

0

I’m losing attraction to my boyfriend due to him being cheap.

So it can be hard to get my boyfriend to want to go and do anything if it comes to money. He’ll drop $500 on a trip or hundreds on something for a hobby it can be hard to get him to go do stuff($10-$20).

It just seems like he can easily fork out money for things for soley him but not on stuff on us together, even if I pay for myself.

It’s gotten to a point that I just offer to pay so we even go out but it’s becoming super unattractive.

Prime example I paid $80 for his birthday dinner but he wants to just bbq with friends for mine. I don’t expect him to pay for things for me but it’s hard wanting to go out having to feel like I have to pay for us both.

This is leading to resentment and then he’ll want to get intimate and I’m just not into it because I feel like he doesn’t seem to care about spending money on things for us to do together.

He even makes more money than I do and I get by fine but he’s always saying he doesn’t have money, then will go buy something expensive for him

Netizens’ comments

Money represents a lot of things – power, fears, dreams, insecurities… to name a few. To understand why this is happening, you’re going to have to figure out what it means to your boyfriend to spend money on you.

Specifically, what is it about the relationship dynamic with you that makes him reluctant? This may feel incredibly personal, but chances are, it has little to do with you. For example, it may come from a childhood experience or something his parents did.

If you’re otherwise feeling loved and respected by him, it could be worth talking it out. Try to put your feelings aside and approach him with curiosity, in a nonjudgmental way. You need to get to the heart of what money means to him.

You might even want to do some self exploration to see if there’s a deeper reason for why his aversion to spending money on you is hurtful to you.

It’s natural and normal for conflicts to come up in a relationship. When handled the right way, they can be an incredible opportunity for growth and developing deeper bonds. See if you can use this situation to get to know each other on a deeper level.

KL FLIGHT BOUND FOR S’PORE UNABLE TO LAND, TURNED BACK DUE TO POOR WEATHER

0

Firefly flight FY3124 was flying from Kuala Lumpur to Singapore on the morning of 29 January, when it was stranded in another state.

The inclement weather meant that the plane couldn’t land at Seletar airport upon arriving here, and after 2 failed attempts at landing the aircraft, the plane was rerouted to Johor Bahru’s Senai International Airport instead.

The passengers were also not able to disembark from the plane upon landing in JB, as the captain announced that they would be taking off for Seletar Airport again, after 2 hours.

Firefly flight FY3124 had departed the Subang Airport, Sultan Abdul Aziz Airport in Kuala Lumpur on 29 January at about 7.20am.

The expected arrival in Singapore at the time was 8.40am, but the aircraft ended up being unable to land at Seletar Airport.

One of the passengers who were onboard the plane, Wu, spoke to 8world news and said that the passengers were told by the captain on the broadcast system twice that they were preparing for landing.

He then spoke to an air stewardess who told him that the Seletar Airport control tower didn’t allow them to land due to the bad weather.

The plane, which was carrying 72 passengers, 2 cabin crew and 2 pilots, were then sent to the Senai International Airport in Johor Bahru instead.

A video was also shared, taken from inside the plane, showing the misty weather conditions outside and the poor visibility.

HUSBAND SUDDENLY SAYS HE FORGIVES WIFE FOR CHEATING, BUT SHE NEVER CHEATED

0

Husband (35M) says he forgives my (32F) infidelity but I have NEVER cheated!

Basically what the title says. Last night we were having an argument when he threw it in my face that if he can forgive my infidelity then I can get over the issues we were arguing about.

Guys, I’m completely blown away. He insists he has proof but won’t show it to me. Won’t tell me who I’ve allegedly cheated on him with or when I’d even have time to cheat between working full time and doing almost all the housework and childcare.

He alternated between saying that I know exactly what he’s talking about and saying I should just drop it because he forgives me so it doesn’t matter.

This morning he’s acting like the whole thing never happened. What the literal fuck? I want to bring it up but I don’t even know how??

Does he actually believe this? To everyone reading this, could you just casually continue with your life if you actually believed your partner cheated on you? Or is he just doing this to deflect from the actual issues, which we never ended up resolving after he dropped this bomb?

I don’t honestly don’t know which is worse. I haven’t spoken to him all morning because I don’t even know what to say.

But he is, or seems to be, totally oblivious. If anything, he’s in an extra upbeat mood this morning while I’m sitting here in total shock and disbelief.

Where do we go from here? What do I do? Can someone give me suggestions on what to say because I honestly feel like I’m going to cry every time I try to put my feelings into words, and he will absolutely see those tears as proof of guilt. Please help.

tl:dr Husband accused me of cheating during an argument, refuses to discuss it further, and is now pretending it never happened. I am stunned and don’t know what to do.

S’PORE’S WOMEN TCHOUKBALL TEAM RANKED 1ST IN THE WORLD AFTER BEATING CHINESE TAIPEI

0

The Singapore women’s Tchoukball team have created history by ranking number one in the world, following a victory against the Chinese Taipei team back in August.

The president of the Tchoukball Association of Singapore, Delane Lim, made the announcement on his Facebook page and congratulated the team.

Here is what he said

I am happy to announce that our Team Singapore Tchoukball Women’s team has ranked No 1 in the world ranking and with Men’s Team ranked 3rd in the world. Ranking was recently published by International Tchoukball Federation (FITB).

I am extremely proud of both teams’ and coaches’ dedication over the years to bring the sport to greater heights and flying high our Singapore Flag.

This year, all our teams will be training for World Tchoukball Championships (happening in Prague), World Youth Tchoukball Championships and possibly South East Asia Tchoukball Championships (both will be hosted in Singapore).

It will be a tough championship especially when we face off with the top 3 in the world.

With limited resources, our teams often have to pay for their own airfare, accommodations and championship fee (though subsidised by Tchoukball Association of Singapore). We are not an Olympic Sport… hence resources understandably is limited. But one day, we hope we will get there and for a start to lobby as a demonstration sport for regional games.

Our players’ dedication and passion to win for Singapore is certainly commendable. As a president, I hope to do more for our players. It is not easy but we continue to thrive with our limited resources. With more, I am sure we can do more and increase our talent pipeline.

It takes a village to raise a child… likewise in any sport, we need the whole village to rally behind our teams to let them know that we are supporting them. I do hope that we will have more corporate partners and individual supporters to come on board to help sustain our performance and provide the opportunities for our players to succeed and win more for Singapore.

This certainly came in as a great gift for our Tchoukball community. We will be calling for a celebration reunion soon, with announcements on our future plans and acknowledgements of our new partners on board. @tchoukballfitb @tchoukballsg

RESIDENT HAD STRANGER COME UP TO THEIR HOME TO BAI NIAN & ASK FOR ANG PAO

0

Have you encountered strangers coming to your house to bai nian for ang pao?

Just encountered a literal stranger coming to my house to bai nian – he held out two oranges and said he was here to bai nian.

Obviously I was pretty shocked and told my parents but they told me to tell him that they were in the toilet so cannot bai nian and no ang pao for him lol.

But apparently according to them it’s tradition for strangers to just go over to some random persons house to bai nian and get ang pao?

Is this true? Cause if so the guy must have gotten quite some cash.

Netizens’ comments

  • Better not give angpows to strangers who show up at your house during cny. They may keep returning to your place to pester for monetary donations if they know that you are kind and generous. Likely to pose future risks to your family.
  • Lol he think he trick or treating??
  • when we first moved into our new home, our next door neighbour waltzed in through our door on her own without ringing bell or knocking and asked us what we were going to prepare for dinner for CNY day 1 because her family wanted to come over. everyone else was stunned like vegetable but my brain + mouth got no filter, so i just frowned at her and asked her “eh where got people just come into someone’s house without an invite and expect dinner on cny day 1? are you my mother-in-law or what? we no need to visit our family meh?” she turned red and tried to use the “but i thought we are neighbours so we can spend cny together and have dinner mah.” i just stared at her until she felt so awkward she left.
  • It’s a very old tradition, it used to be that everyone would know everyone in the village (or kampong), so it wasn’t that awkward to go to a ‘stranger’s’ house and bai nian. However, nowadays it’s really weird to go to a strangers house and ask them for blessings and ang baos
I have village relatives back in China that still do this because it’s their culture and it’s a small village, but idk anyone from the cities that do this anymore.
Edit: Also some older generations still do give out Ang Baos to strangers if they knock on the door. My grandparents still do give $2 Ang Baos to door-to-door sales people (etc.) regardless.
  • Wth? Never heard of this behaviour. Unless you know that person, and that person is okay with you visiting during CNY, it’s pretty rude to go to people’s house to ask for red packets.
  • Nah. It’s not a tradition. You go to your relatives house to bai nian, not strangers.
Some people might say just to get in your house. I’ve heard people have opened their doors to strangers and ended up getting robbed.
I used to have grasscutters and rubbish collectors who happen to pass by receiving ang pow by generous homeowners. I would give too.

DRINKING VENUES TO DISPLAY SALE OF ALCOHOL TIME OR FINE OF UP TO $10K

0

The Ministry of Home Affairs and the Singapore Police Force have reviewed the regulatory requirement for the supply of liquor at licensed premises.

With effect from 1 March 2023, liquor licensees will be required to display prominent notices within their licensed premises, to notify patrons of the permitted liquor trading hours.

No change in rules for liquor consumption at licensed premises

The current rules under Section 6(1) of the Liquor Control (Supply and Consumption) Act 2015 (“the Act”) allow liquor licensees to supply liquor only within their licensed premises and only during applicable liquor trading hours. Any licensee who supplies liquor and allows consumption of liquor outside the applicable liquor trading hours may be liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding $10,000.

New requirement for licensees to display notices

Under Regulation 7A of the Liquor Control (Supply and Consumption) (Liquor Licensing) (Amendment) Regulations 2022, all Class 1A, Class 1B, Class 2A and Class 2B liquor licensees must display, legibly and in at least the English language, one or more notices within their licensed premises, containing the following information:

  1. the liquor trading hours applicable to the licensee;[1]
  2. that any supply or consumption of liquor within the licensed premises is not allowed outside of the liquor trading hours applicable to the licensee; and
  3. that any consumption of liquor within the licensed premises outside of the liquor trading hours applicable to the licensee may be an offence under Section 12(1) of the Liquor Control (Supply and Consumption) Act 2015 (see Para 7).

A breach of Regulation 7A of the Liquor Control (Supply and Consumption) (Liquor Licensing) (Amendment) Regulations 2022 carries a fine of up to $10,000.

The Police have notified all Class 1A, Class 1B, Class 2A, and Class 2B liquor licensees of the new requirement.

Reminder on consumption of liquor at licensed premises

Members of the public are reminded that at licensed premises, liquor can only be consumed during the stipulated hours. Police will take action under Section 12(1) of the Act against patrons who claim ignorance of the liquor trading hours and are found drinking in the licensed premises after the liquor trading hours. Offenders may be liable to a fine of up to $1,000. Repeat offenders may be liable to face a fine of up to $2,000, to imprisonment of up to three months, or both.

[1] The trading hours applicable to the licensee under regulation 7A(a) shall include the different trading hours that apply to the licensee, in the event the Minister specifies by order in the Gazette under section 6(2) of the Liquor Control (Supply and Consumption) Act 2015, that different trading hours apply to the licensee.

PASSENGERS STUCK INSIDE SENTOSA MONORAIL FOR 2 HRS, RAMMED BY ANOTHER TRAIN

0

Passengers on board a Sentosa monorail train were reportedly trapped inside the carriage for about 2 hours after it had stalled due to a technical fault.

The Sentosa Development Corporation has since apologised for the incident.

One of the passengers who was trapped, Emma, told STOMP that she was with her toddler at the time and was trapped inside the carriage with several other young families, from 11.40am to 1.30pm.

She described the conditions inside the carriage as being hot and increasingly uncomfortable with no airconditioning because the electricity was off – they ended up having to open a window,

She also said that there was “extremely limited communication” between the train company and the passengers on the evacuation plans.

More harrowingly, Emma added that their carriage was allegedly rammed by another train that appeared without any warning to hold on for safety, resulting in the passengers being distressed.

After they eventually got out of the carriage and arrived at the point of origin in Sentosa, Emma claimed that they didn’t receive any apologies or explanation from the staff members.

SDC said in a statement to STOMP that they apologise for the inconvenience and distress caused to the passengers, and said that “the safety and well-being of our guests remain our utmost priority”.

They claimed that when the technical fault first occurred at about 11.40am, the air conditioning and lighting were not affected.

On the train carriage being rammed by another train, SDC said that they made the decision to recover the faulty train through coupling it with another train to tow it back to the nearest station.

They said that the electricity from the affected train had to be shut off for safety reasons.

GUY’S UNDERWEAR ALWAYS GOT POOP STAINS, DAD FED UP & FORCES HIM TO USE A BIDET

0

For some reason my son cannot wipe properly. This was never a concern to me as his mom did the laundry.

Unfortunately she is sick right now so I have taken over the household chores that she used to handle. My son is still responsible for his and I do mine as well as hers.

First day I did laundry I gagged and almost puked from his underwear. If he were three and not toilet trained I might understand how they end up like this. But he is a healthy young man. He should not be this unwiped.

I talked to him about it and he said he would make an effort to do a better job. Nope. No change in the situation.

So I went a bidet in the toilet. We already have one in our master bedroom. I told him that he has a choice of either using the bidet or washing his own underwear. He doesn’t know how to use the washing machine and he refuses to do them by hand.

He started going commando. Which just meant the problem was his jeans now.

So I said that we might need to take him to the doctor to see what is wrong with him. If it’s physical or psychological.

I also said that the next time his friends were over I was going to ask them is they left their underwear in the same condition. I WOULD NEVER ACTUALLY EMBARRASS HIM LIKE THAT.

He said I was being an a-hole and he called his mom to tell her what I was doing. She said that he was just like that and I could deal with it until she was better.

I don’t think that’s a great plan. If this kid never learns to clean properly he will suffer when he’s older.

He has started using the bidet but he says that it is gross and weird. I said it was grosser and weirder for a young man to crap his pants every day.

This comes in the wake of Israeli Forces raiding a Palestinian refugee camp in Jenin on 26 January and leaving 9 people dead, including an elderly woman, and 20 people injured.
