WOMAN INVITED TO FRIEND’S OVERSEAS WEDDING WHERE SHE HAS TO PAY $8K TO GO

0

I genuinely do not want to be friends with people who have the balls to invite me to a $8000 destination wedding and have ended friendships over it

I will truly distance myself from the person following them asking me to pay for it, and then when I say no I can’t go that’s my whole bank account they freak out.

They only wanna be friends with other rich people and are self centered.

I just ended a friendship over someone expecting me to do this, and going to end another friendship over a similar situation soon.

NO ONE WANTS TO PAY FOR YOUR DESTINATION WEDDING YOU ARE RICH ENOUGH TO HAVE, especially if we haven’t freaking talked in 7 years (or even hung out more than 4 times)

Netizens’ comments

  • Yeah if you haven’t talked to them in 7 years, it sounds like the friendship was already over.
  • That is insane! ‘Come spend 8k to see us!’ no thank you. You really didn’t lose anything, these people certainly aren’t or weren’t real friends ffs.
  • If they were really that rich then they could pay for all of their guests to fly over and get accommodation for their big stupid wedding

MAN WON TOTO 1ST PRIZE, BOOKS 4 FIGURE “SERVICES” & HIDES DOUBLE LIFE FROM WIFE

0

Im a toto Group 1 winner. Shall not say which year or month because Ive become a bit paranoid person now. What if ppl manage trace me down?

Overnight became a MILLIONAIRE. not the cny angbao toto $10mil. But it was still crazy $$$. My hands couldn’t stop shaking after i checked the numbers. No mood to do anything, not even eat. How many people queuing at spore pools everyday will experience this? My past life sure suffer alot, thats why this life repay me.

I did not tell my wife. I hope she never finds out. If she knows, cna, channel 8, bbc, cnn, whole world knows. She just cannot keep secrets. Nobody knows. Overnight, I become a private privilege client of the bank. I tell them, do not send paper statements to my house. Not that I need to worry. Special clients mean special treatment.

Most of the million$$ is still there, some in savings, some in equity and other investments. I’m thankful to have some knowledge of asset allocation, dont have to blindly follow the bank advice.

Thats the boring part. The interesting part is the $$$ has allowed me to satisfy my fantasy. I know ppl reading this will curse me. Now that I’m rich so have licence to keep another woman outside? I only live once, and 99.9999% chance this will be the only time in my life i strike toto first prize. So why waste? Winning toto proved amazing things can happen to me. Why die die must follow old thinking, or old life?

I booked an escort. 4-figure per night. The quality of the woman is really different from what I see on the street. Or any woman I know. Totally different class. She made me feel I’m dating a hollywood actress. Bedroom skills is like AV actress. One word. Superb.

I cut off after a few months. As it was becoming too expensive. I even rented a condo for her. Never sink too deep. Besides, my wife might find out. Still it was a wish come true.

Recently I has been more paranoid. What if someone, somehow know about my $$millions? Will they kidnap me? Or my children?

I often wondered what it is like. Winning toto. Fyi, I didn’t quit my job. I calculated, unless you win the angbao $10millions or willing to migrate to our neighbors, normal toto first prize is not enough to retire comfortably. If you manage quite well like me, can just afford the good things in life once in while like me. If you think can shake leg forever forget abt it. Maybe shake for a short while. After that back to normal life goes on. SG gov very smart, make sure even after win toto still need to work.

GF DON’T WANT BF TO SAVE MONEY, WANTS HIM TO SPLURGE ON GIFTS FOR HER

0

A netizen shared how her boyfriend doesn’t anyhow spend and chooses to save money instead of buying expensive gifts for her.

Here is the story:

“My boyfriend is a pretty frugal guy who doesn’t splurge on restaurants, cafes and expensive food. He does however once in a while spend on things that he likes.

Every time he dines alone, he goes to those marketplaces, hawker or food courts in malls, but he’s willing to spend more on restaurants whenever we hang out, though sometimes I still enjoy eating at non-restaurant places with him.

One thing about him that bothers me is that he doesn’t spend much on me like my friend’s boyfriend does.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not complaining or comparing, we still take turns to pay for meals, he isn’t being calculative with me, he buys me my favorite food and dessert too,

but what I’m saying is the lack of premium/expensive items like handbags, electronic gadgets, and jewelry.

I honestly don’t demand this stuff, but as a girl, who doesn’t want their boyfriend to pamper them once in a while, and I’m very much contented with him even if he does it just once or twice a year.

Moreover, he puts like 70% of his salary every month into trading. He did tell me before that now is not the right time for him to spend unnecessarily, as he wants to invest as much as he could so that we will have a much better life in the future.

I told him that he can’t possibly always be earning without spending, but my quote just simply doesn’t register in his head.

I know he’s been making money through stock trading, but honestly, I don’t feel happy at all if he doesn’t know how to pamper him or ourselves by spending it.

What shall I do? I don’t think a breakup is necessary, but I’d like to hear some useful opinions. Thanks.”

Editor’s note: You got no job and no money of your own? Are you a leech? What’s wrong with saving money?

0

A chain collision involving 2 lorries and 2 cars took place at the Woodlands Causeway earlier today (13 October), resulting in two out of three lanes being blocked.

Videos of the accident emerged online showing the lorry failing to come to a stop when approaching the cars that were ahead of it.

Photos also emerged online, showing a grey-coloured car being crushed into smithereens, as well as having its boot completely destroyed – the lorry was also seen wedged into the back of the vehicle.

Sin Chew Daily reported that the accident, which involved 2 lorries and 2 cars, took place this morning at about 9am, with the driver of the grey car being trapped in his seat.

11 firemen and 3 rescue vehicles were dispatched to the scene and the driver was then freed from the car and sent to hospital for treatment, according to the Johor State Fire and Rescue Department.

WIFE OF CYCLIST WHO WAS KILLED IN LORRY ACCIDENT, SUES DRIVER & HIS COMPANY FOR $250K

0

The family of 55-year-old cyclist Mark Anthony Kirk Doney, who died in an accident with a lorry, is suing the driver and his company for negligent driving, according to Shin Min Daily News and Mothership.

A claim was filed with the High Court on 10 October by the deceased’s 42-year-old wife, claiming that the driver, Selvakumar Ranjan’s negligent driving resulted in Doney’s death.

They are seeking compensation of more than $250,000.

What happened?

The 55-year-old cyclist was cycling along Nicoll Drive on 10 November, heading towards Changi Coast Road when he got hit by a lorry that had abruptly turned out of the carpark.

Doney was unable to avoid the lorry in time, and he ended up succumbing to his severe traumatic injuries and dying 4 days later.

He left behind his 42-year-old wife and three children aged 11, 10 and 8.

Doney was the sole breadwinner of this family who earned more than $225,000 annually, and his family has suffered losses in their income since his death.

Negligent driving

In the claim filed by the victim’s wife, she argued that heavy vehicles were not allowed in that parking lot, and said that Ranjan’s negligence in turning out of the carpark abruptly and not giving way to her late husband caused his death.

Doney was a Singapore permanent resident who was working as a self-employed visual effects designer and artist, who also worked on the visual effects compositing on the popular HBO fantasy show Game of Thrones, according to his LinkedIn profile.

The family is claiming $61,636.98 from the lorry driver as well as his company NTT Transport Sdn Bhd for medical expenses, cremation, lawsuits in Australia and bicycles and other personal expenses.

The High Court then decided on the rest of the compensation, which amounted to more than $250,000.

YISHUN MURDER CASE – NEIGHBOURS HEARD ARGUMENTS BEFORE SON ALLEGEDLY KILLED FATHER

0

47-year-old Eddie Seah Wee Teck was previously reported to have been allegedly killed by his 19-year-old son Sylesnar Seah Jie Kai on 10 October at Block 653 Yishun Avenue 4.

The 19-year-old was arrested by the police, and was charged in court yesterday (12 October) with his murder, and has been remanded for another week.

A 63-year-old woman who lives in the same block as the deceased and his son, spoke to Shin Min Daily News and said that she remembered hearing shouting at about 6pm on the day of the incident.

8World News also reported that another neighbour had heard people arguing loudly as well, and another neighbour that TODAY spoke to said that they had heard loud quarelling coming from the deceased’s unit in the past.

How the murder allegedly happened

According to Shin Min Daily News, the victim had an argument with his son and walked out of the house, and the accused then allegedly grabbed a knife from the kitchen and chased after his father.

He then allegedly used the knife to slash his father in the neck from behind, before slashing home again across the back.

The victim then escaped through the staircase and called for help from his neighbours, according to Lianhe Zaobao.

The victim eventually collapsed in front of a neighbour’s unit one floor below, and the Straits Times reported that the neighbour heard frantic knocking at her door before calling the police when she saw the victim sprawled on the ground with a metallic object.

The victim reportedly had a bloodstained knife near his body when the police found him, which measured about 10cm long; and he had stopped breathing by the time the paramedics arrived at the scene.

He was found motionless and declared dead at the scene by paramedics.

Introvert who kept to himself

The 19-year-old is reportedly the youngest in the family, with his 27-year-old sister being the oldest in the family.

He often goes jogging with her and was waiting for his national service enlistment in 2023, with a neighbour telling 8World News that the accused appeared to be shy and would often keep to himself when they bumped into each other.

He was often seen playing games while sitting near the gate of his home with his headphones on.

MRT AND BUS FARES TO INCREASE BY 4-5 CENTS WITH EFFECT FROM 26 DECEMBER

0

The Public Transport Council (PTC) said in a press release on 12 October that there will be an increase of about 2.9% for public transport fares, translating to about 4 to 5 cents increase on adult fares.

PTC’s press release

FARE REVIEW EXERCISE 2022

Public transport fares to increase due to spike in energy prices, but bulk of increase deferred with additional Government support

Half of Singaporeans will see a small fare increase of 1 cent for every journey

Fare increase for adults capped at 5 cents for every journey

The Public Transport Council (PTC) has decided to grant a fare increase of 2.9% for the 2022 Fare Review Exercise (FRE), balancing the need to keep fares affordable for commuters in a period of rising inflation, while ensuring the sustainability of Singapore’s public transport system amidst rising costs.

2     The cost drivers for public transport rose significantly from 2020 to 2021. The global energy crunch in 2021 caused energy prices to increase by 117%. This, together with increased manpower costs and inflation, led to a maximum allowable fare adjustment quantum of 13.5%, according to the PTC’s fare adjustment formula. PTC has decided to apply the same principle as FRE 2021 and continue to exclude the Network Capacity Factor from the computation of this year’s fare adjustment quantum.

3    The fare increase is 2.9% this year, and the remaining 10.6% of this year’s fare adjustment quantum will be carried over to future FREs. This is made possible by the Government’s provision of an additional subsidy of about $200 million in 2023. This will help to mitigate the impact of the fare increase on commuters.

4     Adult card fares will increase by 4 to 5 cents per journey depending on distance travelled. The increase in concession card fares will be capped at 1 cent per journey to keep fares lower for students, senior citizens, lower-wage workers, and persons with disabilities. This means that around two million commuters, or half of Singaporeans, will see a small fare increase if they pay per journey. There will be no change to the prices of monthly concession passes and adult monthly travel passes.

5    The adjustment in fares applicable from 26 December 2022 is summarised as follows:

Public transport fares remain affordable with support from Public Transport Fund

6     The public transport affordability indicator shows that on average, households in the second quintile (21st to 40th percentile), representing the average public transport user, spent 1.8% of their household income on public transport in 2021 while households in the second decile (11th to 20th percentile), i.e. lower-income households, spent 2.5% of their household income on public transport (Fig. 1 in Annex A) on average. Monthly public transport expenditure for these households will likely be maintained at similar levels, after accounting for this year’s 2.9% fare increase and also wage increases this year.

7      As a way of sharing with commuters any expected increase in fare revenue, the Public Transport Operators are required to contribute, based on their profitability, a portion of this increased revenue towards the Public Transport Fund. This year, PTC has decided that SBS Transit and SMRT Trains should respectively contribute 5% and 20% of their expected increase in revenue which will equate to $3.44 million ($0.37 million and $3.07 million respectively) to the Public Transport Fund.

8      The Government will again make available 600,000 Public Transport Vouchers (PTVs) worth $30 each from the Public Transport Fund.  The PTVs will further ensure that fares remain affordable for lower- to lower-middle income households, beyond the levels tracked by the public transport affordability indicator.

A sustainable public transport system for current and future generations

9     As of September 2022, public transport ridership has recovered to about 80% of pre-pandemic levels. There have also been significant improvements to the quality and reliability of the public transport system in the last few years.  The Government continues to invest heavily in maintaining the high standard of public transport and enhancing the connectivity of our public transport network. The rail network will expand from 230 km today to approximately 360 km by the early 2030s.

10     PTC is currently reviewing effectiveness of the current fare adjustment formula and mechanism, in consideration of the changes in the public transport industry and commuting patterns. PTC will complete the review next year and apply the new fare adjustment formula and mechanism from the 2023 FRE onwards.

11     “The Public Transport Council recognises concerns that Singaporeans have over increasing costs of living and the impact of rising inflation. These concerns weighed heavily in our deliberations for the fare review exercise where the Council has to strike a delicate balance between fare affordability for our public transport commuters and financial sustainability of the public transport system. Amidst unprecedented rising costs and economic volatility, the Council recognises the imperative to ensure that public transport continues to be reliable, convenient and affordable for Singaporeans. We will ensure that public transport remains affordable for commuters, but we seek commuters’ understanding that some fare increase is still necessary to meet rising energy costs, and ensure that we can continue to provide better salaries and training for about 20,000 Public Transport workers. I would like to assure commuters that the Council will continue to protect the interest of commuters, especially those who are more vulnerable, and support the Government’s measures to help lower-income households,” said Ms Janet Ang, Chairperson, Public Transport Council.

58 Y.O SECURITY SUPERVISOR JAILED FOR MOLESTING 16 Y.O GIRL AT CONDO GUARDHOUSE

0

A 58-year-old security supervisor at a condominium was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment on 11 October after molesting a 16-year-old girl at the condominium’s guardhouse.

He had touched the victim’s private parts for half an hour despite being told to stop several times, as well as offering her $100 to perform an explicit act, which she turned down.

The Singaporean man cannot be identified because of a court order protecting the identity of the victim.

What happened?

The man had engaged the girl and her stepfather to work as temporary security guards at the condominium in February earlier this year, with the girl having just finished her secondary school studies and waiting to enter ITE in July.

He was alone with the girl on 13 February and was having a conversation with the girl, where he asked her if she was a virgin, to which she said yes.

The man then showed the victim an explicit video on his phone while the girl’s stepfather was in the rest room at about 5pm, but the girl didn’t want to watch it.

He then insisted and she then gave in and watched it while sitting next to him, after which the man then started rubbing her thighs ah she attempted to push his hands away.

The man then slid his hands into the girl’s pants and molested her for 30 minutes despite the girl telling him to stop.

He only stopped after he noticed someone approaching the guardhouse, before offering the girl $100 to perform an explicit act on him.

The girl then refused her offer and gave an excuse to go to the toilet, the man then placed his finger on his lips, signalling to the girl not to tell her stepfather, but she ignored him.

He was eventually jailed 12 months for his crimes.

MIGRANT WORKER FINED $500 FOR SMOKING CONTRABAND CIGGS, ALMOST HIS MONTHLY SALARY

0

A migrant worker was caught smoking an illegal cigarette at Marine Parade while taking a break from his painting duties at work.

The incident happened on 9 October at Marine Parade, according to The Straits Times.

The worker was taking a break whilst on painting duty when he smoked a contraband cigarette and was then caught by customs officers during an operation.

The worker had hidden the illegal contraband cigarettes inside another packet of duty-paid, legal cigarettes.

Speaking to ST, the migrant worker said that the contraband cigarettes that he buys form his dormitory only costs $5, and added that local cigarettes were too expensive for him.

He was fined $500, which is almost the entirety of his monthly salary, and he added that he would not be smoking or buying those illegal cigarettes anymore because it isn’t worth it.

Enforcement operation

Singapore Customs conducted the operation on 9 October to catch workers smoking duty-unpaid cigarettes, according to ST.

About 33 workers between the ages of 32 and 70 were caught in the operations conducted at areas including Geylang and Chinatown, of which 9 of them were Singaporeans.

About 380 sticks of contraband cigarettes were also seized in the operations.

SHANMUGAM ON THAI CHILDCARE SHOOTING – “THIS IS WHY S’PORE IS TOUGH ON DRUGS”

0

Singapore minister for Law and Home Affairs K. Shanmugam shared his thoughts on the recent mass shooting at a Thai childcare centre where a former police officer killed at least 38 people.

He used the massacre as an example of why Singapore is maintaining a tough stance on the consumption of drugs and trafficking.

Shanmugam’s statement on Facebook

[Horrific massacre of innocent children in Thailand, and drugs]

In just one day, 38 death sentences were carried out on innocent lives – children as young as two years old and a teacher who was eight months pregnant, among others.

Panya Kamrab went and shot these children.

This former policeman was facing a methamphetamine (“ice”) drug charge when he carried out the attack.

The silence, of narco liberals and apologists for drug traffickers, is deafening. Some are probably hoping that the link between drugs and the violence will be overlooked.

And as far as I know, these activists have not held any candle light vigil for the children who have been massacred.

Bloomberg reports that the Thai Prime Minister has ordered a clampdown on drugs, in the wake of this mass shooting. He has now made drug suppression an urgent item and had ordered police to crack down on illicit substances to restore public confidence. The report noted that the Police would conduct random drug searches, arrest offenders, and bring in users for rehabilitation. These steps are being taken 3 months after Thailand decriminalised cannabis, making it widely available. I wonder how these measures will work, given the wide availability of drugs. At least one death penalty activist was celebrating Thailand’s move, with the implied suggestion that we were wrong in our policies. At that time we were asked if we would follow Thailand’s example. I said no.

And just last month, an attack in Canada left 10 dead and 18 injured. One of the perpetrators had a history of drug and alcohol abuse, and associations with gang members and drug dealers.

I cannot emphasise this enough – there are good reasons why Singapore maintains a tough stance towards drug consumption and trafficking.
