NEWLYWED COUPLE REFUSES TO PAY DEBT Of S$8K TO WEDDING CATERER, EVEN AFTER 10 MONTHS

0

A wedding caterer in Malaysia shared her frustrations with a newlywed couple that she provided services for about 10 months ago.

She said that the couple has refused to pay her the money that they owe her, amounting to RM26,000 (or SGD$7970.90), as reported by SAYS.

Her company had catered food for about 1,850 guests at the newlywed couple’s wedding, serving 2 roast lambs, 5 dome sets and 1,000 bottles of orange juice at request of the couple.

The couple then wrote her catering company a cheque for the total cost of the service, but the cheque later bounced.

She added that she had requested a deposit from the couple several times before the wedding but the couple told her that they couldn’t do so, promising to pay her fully after the wedding.

Just a day before the wedding, she requested money again from the couple, but they purportedly told her that they couldn’t pay her just yet.

The caterer felt bad thinking that no food would be served at the wedding, so she went ahead with the couple’s order; she also cited how she had never had a problem like this before.

It has since been 10 months since the couple’s wedding, and the caterer has not received a single cent for her service.

She then shared her story online, and the newlywed couple then threatened no to pay her if it went viral on social media.

The caterer has since reported the incident to the police.

A Facebook user shared a photo of a packet of Char Siew rice that she bought from a hawker stall at Bukit Gombak.

She captioned his photo: “I don’t even convince myself why I should even give a one start for the rating, it should be zero star.”

She had apparently bought 19 packets of the Char Siew rice for $5 each, from a Hua Zai Gombak Food Pte Ltd stall at 347 Bukit Batok Street 34.

She said that “their char siew is like so little, five pieces per packet, plus one egg. I asked for a $5 portion and he tricked me, giving me a $4.20 portion”.

The customer then confronted the hawker and asked him if there was a misunderstanding with the order, to which the hawker admitted his mistake and returned the woman her money.

She added “it’s wrong to deceive customers, please be careful when you go to this stall.”

SFA ISSUES RECALL FOR MIE SEDAAP INSTANT NOODLES DUE TO THE PRESENCE OF PESTICIDE

0

The Singapore Food Agency (SFA) has directed Sheng Sheng F&B Industries Pte Ltd to recall Mie Sedaap Korean Spicy Soup instant noodles and Korean Spicy Chicken instant noodles due to the presence of ethylene oxide. The recall is ongoing.

Following the detection of ethylene oxide in Haagen-Dazs ice cream products in August, SFA surveyed other food products, including instant noodles, for the presence of ethylene oxide. It was detected only in Mie Sedaap instant noodles. SFA thus conducted regulatory testing to take enforcement action.

So far, presence of ethylene oxide has been confirmed in Mie Sedaap Korean Spicy Soup instant noodles and Korean Spicy Chicken instant noodles. SFA has thus directed Sheng Sheng F&B Industries Pte Ltd to recall these two Mie Sedaap products.

SFA is continuing regulatory testing of other Mie Sedaap instant noodle products. SFA is also working with the importers and Indonesian authorities to investigate and rectify the cause of ethylene oxide contamination. Should ethylene oxide be detected beyond the stipulated maximum levels, SFA will initiate recalls of the affected products as a precautionary measure.

What is Ethylene Oxide?

Ethylene oxide is a pesticide that is not authorised for use in food. It can be used to fumigate agricultural products to prevent microbial contamination. Under the Singapore Food Regulations, ethylene oxide is allowed to be used in the sterilization of spices.

The Maximum Residue Limit (MRL) of ethylene oxide in spices should not exceed 50mg/kg (50ppm).

Singapore has been ranked as having the best roads in the world with a score of 9.44 out of 10, according to driver’s education resource website Zutobi.

Singapore’s roads were ranked above countries like Netherlands, Switzerland, Japan and Denmark in 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th places respectively.

Malaysia, on the other hand, was ranked 12th from last, at 48th place.

The roads of countries were analysed by Zutobi according to factors such as road quality, improvements in road quality, deaths on the road and the size of the road networks.

The tabulated data would then factor into the scoring of the roads of the different countries, and Singaproe ended up with a score of 9.44 out of 10, being the only country with more than 9 points.

LTA’s statement on the ranking

We are heartened to learn that Singapore has emerged as tops as having the best roads in the world – in fact we attained the highest in the overall roads score and recorded the fewest road traffic deaths vis-a-vis other countries like the Netherlands, Switzerland and Japan.

WOMAN BROUGHT OWN RECYCLED BAG TO SUPERMARKET, GETS CHARGED $1 FOR HER OWN BAG

0

Facebook user Mandy Lim shared how she brought her own recycled bag to a supermarket and was charged $1 for the bag, which she previously bought from the same supermarket.

Here is what she said

I dont understand why when i bring the recycled bag (previously bought) from Scarlett, still have to be charge again for it. I bought the recycled bag from them when i did my previous purchases.

Luckily i checked my receipt when i on the escalator. Sad for me and my gals are that we have come down again with my trolley of stuffs to confront the cashier. And yet she is non-apologetic at all. Not even a sorry from her nor from the male manager or staff in blue shirt when she ask for his assistance to refund me the $1.

The thing is me and my gals pull the scarlett recycled bag from my trolley infront of the cashier when it is my turn to make payment. When the cashier asked if i want the plastic bags, i replied no, i have my own brought recycled bag. Yet she charged me for my own brought recycled bag.

I am dumbfounded totally. Even though it is only $1 but still i think it is ridiculous lor.

If the shop sells recycled bags for shoppers like us, then still double charge us for it when we bring our previous bought recycled bags from them. Then what is the point of us buying and bringing the recycled bags.

I think they need to further train their staffs.

Never once i encountered such issues with NTUC when i bring the ntuc recycled bag from home. Maybe they should learn from NTUC to put a pricetag on their new recycled bags to differientiate between those havent paid for and customers own brought one.

2 Y.O DIES AFTER FALLING FROM A BABY CHAIR AT A RESTAURANT IN JOHOR BAHRU

0

In a fatal accident in a restaurant in Johor Bahru, Malaysia, a two-year-old boy was suspected of kicking a table when throwing a tantrum.

As a result, he fell together with the baby chair and he slammed into the ground and hit his head on first impact. He was sent to the hospital but pronounced dead.

The accident happened in a restaurant in Skudai Wufu City, Johor Bahru, at around 3 pm on Tuesday (October 4). Johor police said in a statement that the boy’s parents took the boy to a restaurant and sat him in a baby chair.

“During the meal, the baby boy kicked the table because of his tantrum, causing the baby chair he was sitting on to fall down and his head hit the ground.”

It is understood that the baby chair involved is a wooden chair.

The police also said that the waiter at the scene saw the baby boy first burst into tears and then lost consciousness. The parents then rushed him to a nearby private clinic, but the doctor at the clinic suggested that the parents take the child to the hospital as soon as possible based on the seriousness of the child’s injury.

“The parents sent the child to a private hospital in Butri, Iskandar, and it was later confirmed that the child had died of serious injuries.” The police also said that so far the case did not involve criminal elements, so the case was classified as a “sudden death case”.
