STUDY/WORK PODS WITH AIRCON INSTALLED AT BOON LAY & JURONG WEST HDB VOID DECKS

0

Minister of National Development Desmond Lee, said in an announcement on Facebook that 9 work-study pods have been launched and installed across Boon Lay and Jurong West.

They are situated at the void decks of 183C Boon Lay Avenue, 260 Boon Lay Drive and 674B Jurong West Street 65.

Desmond Lee’s Facebook Statement

We launched 9 work-study pods in 3 void decks across Boon Lay and Jurong West over the weekend.

The pods can be booked via an app. Residents may use this for conference calls, virtual meetings, or study. This is a collaboration between HDB, Burztech, PA and Boon Lay community volunteers, and runs on a 1 year pilot trial.

We have also identified students from lower income households who will be given free credits to book slots to help them study in a better environment.

This trial is one of a number of micro-pilots across Singapore, to test new models that might support flexi-work arrangements and work-from-home / work-away-from-office.

Apart from pods in void decks, there are existing trials and roll outs of pods and shared working spaces in PA Community Clubs, commercial and office buildings, Resident Network centres and more.

I would like to thank all the partners who are giving these ideas a go.

24/7 accessibility

Burzt Pods are always accessible and conveniently located within the community. Just a quick booking on the Burzt Pod mobile app, and you have secured your own private space to work, learn or collaborate quietly.

Plug and Play

With Burzt Pod, you benefit from fast and secure WiFi connectivity and two power sockets with USB charging. Just plug and play when you enter your own Burzt Pod, start a virtual meeting or draw up your work plans immediately.

Built for Performance

Each Burzt Pod seats you comfortably with a desk for work or study. With sound insulation, LED lights and an air-conditioning system, it offers an environment most conducive for you to work, study or attend virtual meetings.

Secure and Private

The Burzt Pod is your own private space, secured with a magnetic door lock, which only you can operate for the duration booked. CCTV surveillance tackles any vandalism and theft, for your peace of mind to focus on your work or study.

Hygienic and Safe

Surfaces within your Burzt Pod have a protective antimicrobial coating that can prevent the growth of germs and the spread of Covid-19. This is supplemented by regular cleaning throughout the day.

Easy to Use

Download the BURZT mobile app, and make your booking. Your booking guarantees you the use of the Burzt Pod – and all its amenities – for the duration booked. You only pay for what you have booked, at affordable rates, through a range of convenient, cashless payment methods.

About 10 of the units still remain unsold.

Chinese nationals finding Singapore attractive

Many of the rich in China are looking to move their wealth overseas and they are seeing Singapore as being a safe haven for their money.

China is, at the moment, being driven by a “crackdown” on the rich as the authorities are looking to share the wealth of the rich with the rest of the population.

Singapore is also attractive to the Chinese because of a majority population that speaks mandarin and more lax covid-19 rules, as compared to China’s incessant lockdowns, according to Associate Professor Alfred Wu from the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy.

SINGLE MUM SCAMMED OF $15K, LEFT WITH ONLY $17 IN HER BANK ACCOUNT

0

A 36-year-old single mother, who lost her job in the pandemic, was cheated of $15,610 by a scammer and left with only $17.06 cents in her savings account.

She is now depending on her sibling for financial support.

The woman, Ms Zhang, spoke to Shin Min Daily News and shared that she received a message from a Malaysian number last week.

The scammer had pretended to be a job recruiter and asked her if she was keen on a job where she could earn between $50 to $500 per day.

The scammers’ message also included a photo of Shopee.

Zhang replied that she was keen and she was then referred to another scam recruiter, who have her instructions for her to start her “work”, including going on Shopee and liking some of the products.

Zhang was promised a return of $2 to $3 for each like, and Zhang then did so before being entered into the next phase of “work”.

The scammers told her to place an advance order for a product on Amazon, and she was told that she’d get a full refund of her money as well as a 20% commission on the product value.

Zhang was told to transfer the price of the product into a bank account, and she would be sent a link to place an order on Amazon.

Zhang then did as she was told and repeated the process a few times, buying products that were worth hundreds of dollars, and she was initially paid the refund and the commission.

However, the recruiter later told her that there were errors in the order and instructed her to place more orders to fix the problem and get her money back.

Zhang then did as she was told repeatedly, and each time the scammer would promise her that it was the last time.

Within 12 hours, Zhang transferred $15,610 to the scammer, and they continued to ask her to place more orders, and she started to suspect that she was scammed.

She later lodged a police report.

Reporters from Shin Min Daily News later looked into the website that Zhang was given, and found out that it was not the official Amazon website.

PRC GIRL WANTS IPHONE 14 PRO MAX WILLING TO EXCHANGE IT WITH HER BODY

0

In September, the iPhone 14 series of Apple mobile phones caused a heated discussion among the people as soon as it was released, but the praise and criticism were mixed.

In the past few days, the 14 series has been frequently searched again and again.

In the past, as soon as the iPhone went on sale, it would cause queues in the middle of the night and even crowded alleys. Now, the latest iPhones almost don’t have to be lined up, and they can be taken on the spot after paying the money.

Doing anything for an iPhone

Due to the prices of the phones it is not something everyone can afford and some will do whatever they can to get their hands on the phone.

A China woman residing in Guang Zhou who goes by the name “Sherry” posted on her Wechat wall stating the following:

“iphone14 Pro Max 1TB 紫色,三天,不 戴套,你行你就来”

Which translates to:

“iphone14 Pro Max 1TB purple, three days let you do without the need of wearing protection, if you can do it you come”

Similar stories in the past

This is one of the less extreme cases as many years ago there was a teen who sold his kidney in China so that he can afford to buy an iPhone.

At that time, Wang Gang, a 17-year-old high school student, did not hesitate to sell his kidneys in order to get an iPhone 4.

After he met the middleman in the black market, he followed the other party to an underground hospital. After a complete physical examination, he began the kidney harvesting operation.

Later, although he got 22,000 yuan for selling kidneys as he wished, but 10 years have passed, and his body has not recovered.

Due to the irregular operation process and the harsh operating environment, Xiao Wang’s wound became infected and his kidney function was severely damaged.

He is 1.9 meters tall and weighs only about 120 pounds. He needs to take medicine for life. If his condition is not well controlled, he may develop uremia and even need a kidney transplant.

Today, he has renal impairment and has been assessed as a fifth-degree disability, and has to be bedridden for life, unable to take care of himself.

Although Wang Gang’s parents also took the hospital involved to court and received 1.47 million yuan in compensation, the money was not enough to support the burden of living and seeing a doctor, let alone spending the rest of his life on dialysis.

NAOMI NEO BACK AT IT AGAIN, MADE SON CRY BY LYING THAT SHE FORGOT HIS AIR TICKET

TikTok user Naomi Neo is back in the limelight again after yet another prank on her toddler son, this time making him cry after lying to him that she forgot to buy his air tickets for their family vacation, according to MS News.

In her video posted on 9 September, Neo set her son down and “explains” to him that she had forgotten to book his air ticket for their holiday to Australia.

The previously-smiling boy then started looking nervous as he started protesting that he wanted to go with them to Australia.

Neo then told him that there were no more seats on the plane, to which the boy then suggested that he could sit on her lap, or she could throw away her ticket and stay home with him.

She then told him that he can’t do that, and he starts crying, telling his mother that he will miss her.

Neo then tells him to stay in Singapore and the toddler then begins shaking his head and crying loudly, visibly heartbroken.

The boy then tells his mother “I want to stay with mummy, if you go Australia who take care of me? How can you forget about me?”

The boy then laid down inside her luggage, appearing to try to sneak himself onto the upcoming flight.

Previously scared toddler son with ghost prank

A video emerged online showing Naomi Neo and her husband pranking their son with a “ghost” filter on TikTok, drawing intense backlash from netizens who questioned her parenting.

According to AsiaOne, the viral trend currently making waves on TikTok has parents pretending to do TikTok videos with their children, before escaping from the room and locking their kids inside as the “ghost” appears in the filter, along with eerie music and laughter.

She was seen with her son Kyzo inside a room, staring at the camera, as Neo and her husband slowly backed away out of the room and shutting the door.

The toddler then sees the “ghost” in the video and he then started screaming and ran to the door, trying frantically to open the door but couldn’t.

The boy then started crying.

WOMAN KEPT QUIET EXPECTING GUY SHE LIKES TO APPROACH HER, WAIT LOH

0

Hello, just wanted to get something off my chest. I’m a Female currently working.

I find one of my colleague quite cute though not so independent at his age, but seem to be a good man that I would like to marry/date.

This thought has been lingering for the past 6 months but, I have never said this to him for fear that things will turn awkward at work and there’s no more friendship between us. It’s a very very big fear and i don’t wish to ruin the work dynamics and friendships.

He is quite active in looking for dates and potential partners, which makes me sad as I’m not on the list of consideration. When he shares his date’s experience/plans, there are mixed feelings. You’re happy for a friend but sad that he’ll probably be attached to someone else.

Sometimes, I wish I’m as good-looking as the partner he is looking for. I yearn for the feeling of being chased and going out on dates.

Have been thinking on off the past few weeks but have decided to keep this thought to myself, and to share it with him only after i leave the organisation/team, which would probably be in 1-1.5 years’ time.

Thoughts?

Here are what netizens think:

  • You like then take action lah, you think olden times ah wait the man come until you become wrinkled like a prune.
  • He had no initial attraction towards you. That’s already one big obstacle You can tell him how you feel but be prepared to face rejection.
  • If he meets someone else that he likes, you won’t stand a chance either. Men are not that complicated. Either he likes you from the start or he doesn’t.
  • Since he’s actively looking for potential partners and u are not in his list, u already know he’s not interested in u. If u try and go for it, he will accept it, but u are after alll not amongst his list of choices and once he finds someone he rly likes, good luck to u.
  • You can ask him out & go for causal dates with him. He will realise it one of these days. Or have an usual topic to check or ask him like whether he has breakkie or lunch or dinner everyday. No matter how wood block a guy is. He sure will get the hint from there. Then you will know whether did he distance from you. Or getting closer with you especially in office. Normally guys in love will be more in hot pursuit

MAN SLASHED BY BURGLARS WITH PARANG, AFTER THEY BROKE INTO HIS HOME & ROBBED HIM

0

Two burglars broke into a man’s home in Kelantan, Malaysia on 8 September at about 3am, and they attacked him with parangs after robbing him, according to Sin Chew Daily.

The incident happened on 8 September at 3am, at the Lorong Paya Tok Gading residential area in Kota Bharu, Kelantan.

The man’s niece, Wang Jinyin, said that her uncle had two friends over the previous night at about 9pm, and the latter three slept in a room on the first floor at 2.30am.

Wang was in the living room watching TV before she went back to her bedroom on the 2nd floor at 3am.

However, at about 3.36am, she heard shouts coming from downstairs and when she rushed downstairs, she found her uncle injured with slash wounds.

The attackers had already fled the scene.

Her uncle suffered injuries to his collarbone, shoulder, back, hand and foot; and he was then sent to the hospital.

House lock having problems

Wang said that their house utilises a smart lock that is having problems emitting sounds when it opens and closes, and they suspect the burglars might have entered the home through one of the windows.

One of the burglars went through her uncle and his friends’ luggages after entering through the first floor, and his friend’s car keys, phone and watch were all missing after the incident.

The burglars had initially wanted her uncle to bring them (the burglars) upstairs but he (the uncle) was worried for his family’s safety.

He also noticed that the burglar was smaller than him and he thought he could subdue him, but he didn’t realise that the burglar’s accomplice was in the living room armed with a parang.

Her uncle was then slashed by the burglar and his friends then put up a fight with the burglars after being woken up by the commotion.

By the time Wang and her family went downstairs, they found him covered in blood and the burglars gone, and her uncle was then sent to the hospital and a police report was then lodged.

PRC MOTHER-IN-LAW FORCES GROOM TO DRINK FOOT WATER OR HE CAN’T MARRY BRIDE

0

Weddings, many people take it very seriously, after all, for most people, it only happens once in a lifetime.
Weddings have to abide by local customs. The customs of each place are different, and the various procedures on the wedding day are also different.

However, the marriage customs in some places are really unacceptable.

A recent video of “the mother-in-law asking her son-in-law to drink foot water on the day of the marriage” was circulated on the Internet.

Xiaodong (pseudonym), from Jiangsu, 32 years old, met his fiancee Xiaoyan(pseudonym) through an acquaintance, 28 years old, The two are not young, and the wedding was put on the agenda after meeting a few times But the bride’s parents only have such a precious daughter, and hope she will marry a rich man.

Xiaodong was not a big earner, and his parents are also from the countryside, so they don’t have much savings.

Xiaoyan’s parents persuaded Xiaoyan to break up several times, but Xiaoyan just refused to agree. Under the helpless circumstances, Xiaoyan’s parents reluctantly agreed to the marriage. When discussing the wedding, the Xiaoyan family made many requests with Xiaodong’s family agreeing to all of them.

It stands to reason that after everything is negotiated, the upcoming wedding should be not a problem.

However, just when Xiaoyan was about to board the wedding car to go to her husband’s house, the words of her mother-in-law turned the whole audience into petrification.

“Give another 600,000 RMB, or my daughter will not go with you”

Xiaodong said that marrying Xiaoyan has already emptied himself and her family, and he really can’t get the money.

The mother-in-law asked Xiaoyan to wash her feet before leaving, and the groom had to wash her feet, saying it was a local custom, Which is called “washing away the dust”, it is to avoid taking the dirt on the feet to the husband’s house.

Xiaodong did as she was told did, however, just as Xiaodong was about to pour out the foot-washing water,
But the mother-in-law said, “This kind of foot-washing water cannot be thrown away. In order to verify whether you are sincere to my daughter, you need to drink the foot-washing water.”

When Xiaodong heard it, everyone was stunned. How could he drink such a big basin of foot water? Besides, what kind of rule is this?

So he asked his mother-in-law, why do you drink foot water? The mother-in-law said that this is a local custom.
The bridesmaids next to the groom also watched “show” and didn’t think it was a big deal.

But Xiaodong had never heard of such a custom, and thought it was an insult to him, and refused to drink it. The mother-in-law rose and said, “You can drink if you don’t want to. Now give me 600,000 and take the bride away.”

At this time, Xiaodong looked at the bride Xiaoyan with a look of help, hoping that she could say something for him.

Unexpectedly, the bride Xiaoyan did not move, and said in a low voice: “I listen to my mother…”. Xiaodong was speechless when he heard this, and said loudly, “Will you marry or not?” After speaking, he took off the suit and threw it into the bride’s hands, and left the bride’s house.

The bride then hugged the groom’s leg begging him not to leave.

GUY FROM RICH FAMILY, WORKED CASUAL LABOUR JOBS FOR “FUN” AFTER FIGHT WITH FAMILY

0

My life changing experience as a casual labourer
I would like to share my eye opening experiences for the last six months working as a casual worker and the state of how said group of labourers are perceived.

Background info: I come from a privileged background and work for my family business for the last ten years or so after graduation. I haven’t been exposed to much hardship with the exception of National Service and a bit of discrimination in my studies abroad. About 9 months ago, I had a major tiff with my family regarding the direction of our business and we decided that it would be better for me to take time off to collect myself and find my way. It was fun at first to bum around but it got boring quickly.

I read quite a bit and was awed by Einstein’s experience as a patent clerk giving him new perspectives and decided to do something similar. I decided to take on any form of casual jobs for half a year with little to no commitment (so I can have the largest possible variety) – my shortest stint was one day and my longest was two weeks.

I gave myself a couple of rules to follow – no using of my car, limiting my spending to 20% of my daily wage, and not to quit no matter bad or tough the job was.

I found these jobs on FaceBook – a cornucopia of opportunities in various casual job groups.

I have worked as a food delivery rider, parcel delivery staff, pet transporter, mover, flyer distributor, general cleaner, IT crew, fishmonger, metalwork crew, AV crew, F&B staff, bar hand, food packer, warehouse operator, aeroplane cleaner, valet driver, durian opener, and a few more jobs.

It has been an eye opening experience working. The main things I noticed is that a good percentage of locals adopt an elitist mentality. Unfortunately, my family is guilty of this and to some extent, I too was. Most are very judgemental of blue collared workers and this is very prevalent in the F&B industry.

Toughest job: Metalwork crew. I had to cut metal objects to salvage profitable parts and it was extremely dangerous with sparks flying and a very dirty environment.

Most enjoyable job: Fishmonger. This was by far one of the most fun I had working as I learned to scale and cut different types of fish. It was also very interesting to work at the fisheries to see all sorts of fish(small ones to huge ones almost half a tonne).

Most interesting job: Valet driver, I witnessed plenty of older married men needing to be sent home/hotels with much younger women. Some of the dross these men say/do with their women in the car have definitely left a mark on me.

Most boring job: Warehouse operator, pretty mundane with too much repetition.

My experience as a bar hand watching guys trying to impress their dates is quite hilarious – I notice guys love to flaunt their wealth when it isn’t really great in the grand scheme of things. They tend to treat the bar hands and service staff like crap to look more alpha I’m guessing? Terrible viewing.

Other ‘interesting’ experience include deliverying parcels to women who receive them not wearing underwefar and being pretty nonchalant about it.

Distributing flyers/assisting and moving furniture from showflats to showflats for realtors was a jaded affair – I notice they tend to spew a lot of drivel to the prospective clients with little to no real knowledge about investments as a whole and only seem to care about making a quick buck. Males tend to be nicer to us, offering to buy food if we had worked the whole day without breaks. Females tend to be a bit more picky about not wasting flyers on seemingly unqualified prospects – very judgemental.

Working as an IT crew for tuition centres was pretty sad – I realised a lot of tutors are not really proficient and pretty much reading off their notes. I even noticed a few making mistakes in their lessons – quite alarming.

Cleaning flats and offices was.. peculiar. Some flats were really disgusting and I could not believe people are capable of being so gross and not able to pick up after themselves. Especially tenants moving out, woah. Some flat owners were really nice with isotonic drinks and snacks but the office ones were generally curt and snobbish. A typical HR who was in charge of us(usually middle age woman) would treat us as lesser beings and treat us as such.

Generally, people are quite condescending about lower waged workers and I even saw a few former JC mates brushing me off or being unnecessarily difficult in my experience in F&B. Thankfully, with the mandatory mask, I was never once recognised or questioned. I hope we will be a bit more gracious to people of all sorts of life – no one deserves to be belittled.

Transporting pets was truly amazing, I learned so much how the shelters are in need of help and how these animals truly need our help.

Overall, I made about $12000(close to $10/hour) in these six months and after my daily food and transportation expenses I had about $9000. I have donated this amount to the few shelters and will continue to do so.

I have learned so much for these six months that will echo for the rest of my life and have realigned my perspectives of how I should look at people and my family’s firm.

A good two weeks break to decompress and time to get back to bringing our business forward and being a positive member of society.

AMA and I will do my best to reply in a follow-up post.

Always choose to be kind and gracious, it costs nothing.

WOMAN’S GRANDMA GREETED HER IN THE MORNING, BUT SHE DIED ONE MONTH AGO…

0

This year, I’m celebrating my 30th birthday. It’s gonna be the first time since birth I’m not celebrating this moment with the brave lady who raised me, along with my grandfather. My grandmother died after years and years of suffering. It’s a relief, but damn it hurts.

A few hours before her death, the last day I saw her – I slept a few hours to recover from this terrible night as she asked mercy.

In this dream, I saw her dead, laying on the bed, her husband held her and cried. I immediately sent a message to my companion to tell him about this disturbing picture I’ve seen a few times since the idea of losing her caused me huge anxiety issues.

Then, right after this nightmare, I learnt about her – she passed away as I was peacefully sleeping in my bed. It’s been a month she’s gone now and, I know it’s strange but I totally stopped dreaming about her.

This morning, I just woke up in my family’s house. I heard the distinct voice saying hi. It was nice and sweet. I responded “yes ?” as my grandfather who sleeps in his room next to mine answered “yeah?”

I asked him if he was calling me and said no. I used to work in a funeral home for years as a counselor, I know grief may lead to hallucinations.

Have you ever had a dream about your loved ones who eventually died, moments ago ? Do you think it’s pure coincidence, a simple sign of empathy since I felt extremely worried about her ?

Do you think I – myself – talked while I was asleep ? I know a lot of my friends confirmed I’m a sleeptalker. Anyway, that’s not the most thrilling experience I witnessed but I’m curious about these two moments : first the dream, secondly, the call.

I respect your belief, I’m open-minded. Feel free to share. Take care.
