AIRCON SERVICEMAN SCOLDS CUSTOMER – “YOU THINK YOU ONLY CUSTOMER IN SG AH”

0

A guy took to social media to voice out his displeasure at an Aircon Serviceman who we know as ‘Ah Lau’ based on the screenshots that was uploaded to social media.

This was after the Aircon serviceman asked the man to top up money for some extra items and went missing in action for a while.

Here is what the aircon serviceman said

“I ordered an Aircon service after seeing an ad by an Aircon company online which offered their aircon services at a price cheaper than the market rate.

When the Aircon serviceman, ‘Ah Lau’ came to my house to do the work, he mentioned that the condition of my current pipes is not that good anymore and recommended me some premium aircon pipes made of copper, of course at a premium price.

He went on and on about how good these pipes are and that changing to them will effectively help me save money in the long run.

Convinced by his talks and the problem was not with the compressor, I agreed and paid him money for him to install these premium aircon copper pipes.

However, less than a week after the aircon servicing, the pipes started to leak and I called ‘Ah Lau’ to come back to see what is the issue and he replied to me saying that he will get back to me.

After a few days had passed, I contacted him again and he kup-ed my phone call, blocked me and went MIA for a while.

I then decided to contact him via his Whatsapp until he replied, which he eventually did but with a lot of profanities and he scolded me as well.

In his Whatsapp messages, he told me not to ‘KPKB’ till as if my father and mother is dead, saying that he told me before that I have to wait for the aircon pipes means have to wait.

He even said unnecessary things like my brain got water and to me to continue waiting, scolding ‘NB’ and asking me if I thought I was the only customer in SG.”

SUPERVISOR TAKES IT FOR GRANTED, SUBORDINATE WORK OT UNTIL HE QUITS

0

I started my job at company A a year ago. The first three months were very good, I finished work at 6pm and had a manageable workload.

In the fourth month, my supervisor was up for a promotion. That’s when the pressure started. I had tons of new projects shoved down my throat and had to pull 16-hour shifts. I asked for support multiple times but both this supervisor and my other manager claimed they were too busy (even though they left work at 4-5 pm every day) or that it would be too expensive to hire new staff.

Everyone in the team but me quit during that time. My supervisor got the promotion (good for him). I also asked for a promotion or a bonus but my supervisor stated he wasn’t happy with my performance during my first three months at company A and gave me a mediocre year-end evaluation.

In the meantime, I reached the maximum amount of overtime hours permitted by law, so things got slightly better, as my supervisor couldn’t make me take over any new projects.

I did, however, take over a new project last week. My manager asked me if that would be OK and I said sure since I like the client and it’s interesting work. However, this week I got a very good job offer from another client and handed in my resignation.

My supervisor was furious at me, stating that I should have told him I was leaving before taking over the new project and that I am leaving them out of the blue. He was so intense I was in tears for days.

PROPERTY AGENT – ONLY THE TOP 1-5% MAKE GOOD MONEY, THE REST ARE STRUGGLING TO SURVIVE

0

For those who are considering joining the real estate industry as a real estate agent; PLEASE I urge u to think twice. Especially if you’re leaving a stable salaried job to do this.

Don’t be fooled by the posts of your friend posting their awards & fancy cars and crap on social media and think it’s so easy. It’s not.

Don’t get brainwashed by the managers who are trying to recruit you that it’s such good money and that you can also do it. They earn an overriding commission from their team members so of course the more the merrier. My team manager makes $30-60k a month alone on his team overriding commission; and that’s on top of his own sales. Don’t forget that these people are highly skilled salesmen who can sell ice to eskimos.

The reality is that only the TOP 1-5% of ALL agents make good money & the rest are barely making it. I am not exaggerating. The people in the Top 5% are making all the money.

If you’re not in the Top 5%, u can totally forget about it. There are over 30,000 agents in Singapore- u do the Maths.

In my first 2-3years, I burned through all my hard-earned savings on PropertyGuru credits (I think burned about 5k), various training courses (3k here and 6k there), various apps & misc expenses.

Besides PropertyGuru, there’s also EdgeProp & 99.co- also need to buy credits.

Another 20-30k burned on Facebook & Google Ads.

In this industry, you will burn a lot of money first (easily 20k or more in your first year) before u even make your first cent.

If you do not have at least 12 months of expenses saved PLUS min $20k for all these necessary expenses, don’t even consider it.

That’s not the worst part. Just because u burn money on PropertyGuru, Facebook & Google Ads doesn’t mean u will get genuine leads.

95% of all your leads are time wasters. They don’t respond when u contact them. Msg never reply. Or they will make an appointment with you & then never show up. A lot of people who fill up your lead form on Facebook are just bored and have no genuine intention to sell or buy property. Cold leads from online marketing are almost impossible to close. Most of them are just “look-see only”. I spent over $20k to learn this the hard way. Don’t be like me.

I cannot tell u how many times people have flown my plane. I travel down to the location and waited for an hour & the person never show up.

If you’re a woman, you’ll constantly get harassed by nuisance calls and texts by random male strangers. Because our contact number is readily available online, many men will think it’s okay to take your number and abuse it freely. Pretend to be a buyer interested to buy property, and then after wasting your time for hours, ask if you’re single.

Every day I will get at least one dodgy text or DM from some creepy anonymous male stranger on various platforms. EVERY. SINGLE. DAY.

This year after deducting expenses, not only did I not make any $$, I lost around $15-20k.

It’s depressing to think that the people working in McD & cleaners actually earn more than me.

The truth is- You’ll HATE the job UNLESS you’re a natural salesman who genuinely loves interacting with people. The keywords are “GENUINELY LOVES”.

I am an introvert, I hate going out, I hate interacting with people in general and I suffer every day in this job.

So please take my advice. Don’t do it. It’s very painful & not as lucrative as many people think.

Most agents make around $50-100k a year? Might as well stick to a regular day job with CPF and benefits.

The real perk is the security of knowing u have a fixed paycheck coming in every month.

The dumbest thing one can do is leave a stable salaried job for this “job” where U actually have to pay money to do things U hate & talk to people u can’t stand, every day going around for viewing after viewing like a free tour guide.

People don’t care about wasting your time, cos you’re just an agent.

Nobody will tell u this because frankly, those who are struggling won’t admit to anyone they’re struggling, and the few who are doing very well won’t understand why you’re struggling.

I just wish somebody had told me this years ago.

22 Y.O STUDENT PUSHED TO BUY 3 INSURANCE PLANS BUT SHE HAS NO INCOME

0

Hey 22F here planning to purchase insurance from a friend/FA (AIA) I’d just like to know if what I’m purchasing is the norm and necessary as well as if there’s anything I should look out for? Idk if here is the correct place to ask, if there is a better r/ pls lead me.

Currently being promoted 3 plans, a life one with x3 multiplier till 65, a Hospital plan, and PA. The total would be about 300++ /month – not sure if it is considered steep or okay? I’m just considering also because I’m in uni now and will be forking out from savings (that’s why it could seem a bit tough) until next year when I grad and get a job. I did suggest to not buy the hospital plan first but the FA was adamant that it was very important and I shouldn’t risk being unprotected for the 1 year or so LOL.

My mother thought 3 plans were a lot but then again she’s not very well versed in these things…and i was also scared of being scammed into buying w/o knowing much, so I thought I’d ask for advice here.

Here are what netizens think:

  • your mum’s right. don’t buy until you grad lah. FA adamant it’s very important because her commission is very important. you lived 22 years without right? and after you grad, buy hospital plan only. consider term insurance if you get married and have dependents. all else no need. save the money scrupulously instead, and invest your money and self insure.
  • A hospital one should be enough for now. You don’t have any liabilities to pay or dependents to feed, so death benefit is useless. Critical Illness and TPD is good to have, but not a must. I suggest postponing that until you have started working for 1yr+ can manage your financial flow, allocate money for saving / investing / buying insurance. If you decide to have that, it’s also better to just buy the term plan. Life plan is not good (in terms of opportunity cost if you do investing yourself). PA is just like hospital (pay per year and can stop anytime), so doesn’t rly hurt and usually cheap. But given SG level of safety, I wouldn’t rush to buy one. Disclaimer: Not a financial advisor / insurance agent, but have met few insurance agents and did own research.
  • Hospital plan is the most important, it covers hospitalisation in the event of worse possible scenario. You can choose 3 plans (private, public A and the standard b2 plan). Imo, private is just paying extra for the luxury. Its cheap now but it’s gonna cost a fcking bomb when you are in your 60s, most ppl will downgrade at a later age.

HWA CHONG COUNSELLOR WHO GAVE ANTI-LGBT PRESENTATION IN SCHOOL, SUSPENDED

0

The school counsellor of Hwa Chong Institution at the centre of a scandalous controversy, who gave a presentation against the LGBT community, has been suspended from all duties by the school board.

He is also being investigated by the school and the Singapore Police Force, and Hwa Chong added that his presentation to the students was not approved by the school.

Minister of Education Chan Chun Sing addressed the incident in his written reply to questions in Parliament, saying that the parents and students have been assured that the counsellor’s views do not reflect HCI’s.

Recap

A photo emerged online showing discriminatory remarks being made against the LGBTQ community in Singapore during a school assembly session.

The photo shows a slide pertaining to “community health”, with the header “what are LGBT so proud of? emblazoned at the top of the slide.

Prejudices against LGBT community

The slide displayed prejudices against those from the LGBTQ community, with statements such as “33% of homosexuals have problems with alcohol”, and “33% of homosexuals are pedophiles and rapists”.

Hwa Chong Institution

According to Instagram user @heckin.unicorn, the school in question is Hwa Chong Institution (HCI), as the netizen provided evidence that the photo was taken from HCI.

They identified the school’s logo on the podium stand and compared it against another photo taken at an event that happened earlier in May.

Principal to address students

To further corroborate the allegations against the school, a message was also purportedly disseminated to the secondary 4 students addressing the issue.

The message was from “Mr Pang, Ms Lim and Mrs Chin”, who thanked the students for their feedback and concerns relating to the assembly in question.

They said that the school takes a serious view of the matter and that the principal will be addressing the entire cohort on Monday (18 July).

According to inside sources, the presentation was not vetted by the school and was presented solely by the school counsellor, with no external organisations involved.

Email to the students

“Dear Sec 4 Students,

Thank you for your feedback and concerns with regard to Wednesdays assembly session. We appreciate your comments and reflections, and for reaching out to us directly.

The school takes a serious view of the matter. Principal Mr Pang and the school leaders will be addressing the entire Sec 4 cohort next Monday (18 Jul).

Please report to the the High School Auditorium at 7.30am for the morning flag-raising, followed by the session. You need not report to the school terraces.

Should you have any queries, please feel free to reach out to the School Leaders or your Consortium Director directly. We look forward to the engagement session on Monday. Have a good weekend ahead.

Best regards, Mr Pang, Ms Lim and Mrs Chin”

INSURANCE AGENT TARGETS PARENT’S $300K SAVINGS, SELLS THEM $250K INVESTMENT PLAN

0

So my bf has been an insurance agent/financial planner before we even got together, and I’m supportive of his career choice. We’ve been together for slightly over a year and we’ve met each other’s parents a couple of times already.

Still, he has only met my parents about 5 times since we only meet up as a family for gatherings like someone’s birthday or CNY.

My bf had told me that he wanted to sell insurance/investment plans to my parents and I said no, because I didn’t want my parents to think badly of him. You know, the stigma around insurance agents/financial planners.

Then, I just found out that he sold an investment plan to my parents. He waited for me to leave the house to settle some errands and then talked my parents into buying the plan.

Thing is, the plan looks absolutely horrible. My parents have to pay 50k a year for 5 years. They will then get a lump sump back at the end of the 5 years with interest.

My parents are retired, and they have about 300k in cash savings. This means they have to set aside 250k in their bank to pay for these 5 years, which means this plan is locking their retirement money which could be put in some other investment plans/stocks.

This also means that they only have 50k to spend for the next 5 years which I think is definitely not enough. I feel like this plan is more suited for people who are still drawing an income and can set aside 50k a year to save, and not for people with the actual cash in hand now in retirement.

If anything, they should be buying a plan that dumps 250k in now, then withdrawing X amount a year instead.

Now my parents are quite happy with the plan, saying that it has a good interest and all, and my bf is happy that he earned the commission and has somewhat gained respect from my parents as a financial planner.

My parents are really not financially literate and the money they have now is from their lifetime of saving. They do not have much cpf because they were self employed (small provision shop).

I have not told my parents how stupid this plan is because I’m afraid they’d start to hate my bf or they’d just not trust me, but I feel like it is my duty to protect my parents’ interest. Also, they are very stubborn and I feel like I will not be able to convince them to cancel the plan.

There’s still time to cancel the plan without any fees but I’m in a real dillema now…

My bf is disagreeing that this plan is stupid, and he said my parents have the right to invest in whatever they want without my approval, and he emphasized that they are happy with it. What should I do? I’ve told him to bring up cancelling the plan instead else I’d do it instead and he said I’m putting him in a spot.

BF REJECT GF’S ADVANCES UNTIL THEY QUARREL, NOT THE TYPICAL COUPLE

0

Mediocre S life with bf

I’ve been with my bf for 4 years and are getting married soon. In the course of our rs, we’ve had plenty of overseas trips and staycations together but the number of times we had S is less than 10.

He is in his mid-30s. I was considered pretty active before I met my current bf and have S at least 1-2 times/week with my exes. He said he has had S before with his ex but he does not elaborate much and says he don’t want to bring up the past and he cannot remember it anyway.

In the first year of our rs, I’ve tried many ways of getting him to have S with me but he always rejected my advances and we ended up quarreling a lot over it. He’s not the religious or “waiting for marriage” type of guy either. Eventually in our 2nd year together he finally confessed that he has been rejecting me due to his ‘lil bro’ not being able to get up. I tried talking to him and asked him to seek medical advice but he refused and says he will mediate and it will improve. I gave him space and never pushed him to try to have S with me after that for a whole year.

In the third year it was obvious he is still not improving yet and he did not even try to make any effort in getting intimate with me. Our staycays always end off with 1 peck on the lips and sleep. No making out at all even. Again, I tried to ask him to see a doctor as I don’t think mediation works for him at all seeing how he cannot even get up no matter how I try to give his lil bro a hj and I believe erectile dysfunction is not that easy to fix. I want to help him to fix this issue together but he always brush it off whenever I bring up this topic or he gets angry if I talk about it too much. He says he will seek professional help but he has never put it into action.

We only managed to do the deed a few times and we had to use his morning wood to do it as that’s the only way it gets hard. But it’s like a one try thing whereby he goes in and he cannot come out or else it turns soft immediately. He has never ever finished the job either even if he manages to put his lil bro in.

He is a great guy and takes very good care of me but it is only the S part that is missing from our rs. I have no idea how I can help him with this and I am very afraid that our S life after marriage will be very dull. I love S a lot and have been giving him space and time but I’m really worried.

I know he’s not cheating on me either because I don’t think a guy can control his lil bro to be completely “dead” no matter how I try to make it hard. So I believe even if he does try to go out and cheat, how does another girl make him hard when even I can’t? I don’t make his life hard either by being a difficult gf and we don’t quarrel much nowadays.

So guys. Any advice or suggestions on what I can do? Is the problem with me? Or is there something I do not understand about guys? Pls help. I really miss having mind-blowing S.

MUM OF 5 WITHDRAWS $1.9K FROM ATM THEN DROPS IT, NOW LEFT WITH 60 CENTS

0

A mother of 5, Marina, shared how she withdrew $1.9k from an ATM and accidentally dropped it on her way home, and is desperately trying to find it.

She said that she went to the ATM at Ang Mo Kio Market and Food Centre on 31 July to withdraw the money she received from the Social Serivces Offices.

The money was financial aid that was given to her family.

She said that she put the money inside an envelope before placing it inside her bag, but when she reached home, she realised that the envelope was missing.

She said that she thinks she might have dropped the envelope of money while on her way back home, adding that she retraced her steps and went back to search for it everywhere for 3 hours but still couldn’t find it.

Marina expressed how stressed she feels because she is down to 60 cents in her bank account, and that the money was meant for her bills, food and her children’s school expenditures.

A police report has also been lodged and she is appealing to whoever who finds her envelope, to give it to the police.

MAN WHO EARNS $300K/YR: “I MAKE ABSOLUTE ZERO CONTRIBUTION TO SOCIETY”

0

I’m a quant trader, with annual income above 300k. The funny thing is, I make absolute zero contribution to the society.

I make mathematic model to trade stock, coin, etc. buy low, sell high. Just that. I do not make any products, provide any service, or run any business, zero.

I simply play cards with the market, and happens to be on the winning side.

I rarely even work, just once in a while update my trading model and let the computer run. The rest of my time is spent writing motivational bullsh*t on Facebook.

Yet, people usually look at me as a successful person with great admire. They often come to me for investment advices. And I laughed real hard (internally of course).

Why such a useless person like me is being valued so much? I think it is because of people’s greed.

Everyone wants to get rich without having to work hard, “let the money work while you rest”, right? So, people keep pouring their hard-earned money into the market, and I just simply need to take it from them.

I live a comfortable life now, but quite meaningless. Should I quit and do something more useful to the society?

Please don’t tell me to start an investment course, I don’t want to draw more people into this “comfortable but useless” lifestyle. Somebody has to work.

GIVING PARENTS AN ALLOWANCE, WHAT PERCENTAGE OF SALARY TO GIVE

0

I am just curious and would like to know: how much allowance do you give your parents? By allowance I mean the monthly money you give out of filial piety.

I remembered giving my mum some money from my measly part-time job pay during my secondary and poly school holidays, so it was natural to give allowance too once I started working full time, but sadly, my pay is really quite miserable for a uni grad pay.

I do not earn much, significantly way lesser than those OPs complaining about their 8k monthly salary.

I have recently just finished repaying my study loan of 1k per month for the past 5 years (total 60k)

I am currently paying a monthly insurance of 1.6k (including endowments, investments and life insurance policies).

Employment

(Since this post is anynomous) my take home is slightly more than 3k. I work in a lab and that’s the basic salary offered across all labs in singapore, so changing lab jobs will not change or improve my take home income.

For the past 5 years since I have started working, I was unable to save much because of the repayment of study loan and insurances financial constraints.

For the past 5 years, in addition to repaying my study loan and paying for my insurances, I have been giving my parents allowance too.

When I finished repaying my 60k study loan, I increased the parental allowance by 200 bucks a month.

During one fateful month, when i had alot of credit card bills to pay due to insurance and other stuff, I gave 100 bucks lesser in the parental allowance

(but still higher than what I used to give when I was still repaying my study loan), my mum wasn’t happy and said i was shortchanging her, and even after i explained my financial predicament, she didn’t accept my explanation and said I shouldn’t shortchange her.

I am currently giving her 17% of my take home salary. Is that too little?

My parents has 4 children, each giving them allowance and I just heard from my sister that “U know when u get married, u also have to give yr spouse family?”

So that means that my brother in law and sister in law are giving my parents allowance too?? That is 6 people giving them allowance every month!!!

Does that mean my partner has to give them allowance after we get married too? He earns 1k lesser than me, and he is already giving allowance to his parents, I don’t think he will be able to afford to give my parents allowance too . His parents are very easy going and they are not nit picky about how much he gives them because they understand that he doesnt earn much.

Is there an unspoken rule that we have to give our spouse parents too?

How are we to raise a family with our already little combined income and also give both sides of the family allowance??

Question: what is the appropriate percentage of your take home salary to give your parents? And do we also have to give our spouse parents?
