A 42-year-old man from Myanmar, Maung Maung Aung Soe Thu, was thrown off his bicycle after the front wheel of his bicycle got stuck in a drain cover, in an incident that happened last year.
He ended up being sent to the hospital after suffering multiple injuries and is now suing the Public Utilities Board (PUB) for negligence.
The incident happened on 16 January 2021 along the Changi Point Coastal Walk, where he was cycling at the time.
Knocked out cold
The front wheel of his bicycle then got stuck in a drain cover that was beside the road, and he ended up being thrown off his bicycle.
Maung lost consciousness for a while and he was then sent to Changi General Hospital for emergency treatment after that.
Shin Min Daily News reported that he suffered multiple facial fractures, trauma to his spine and a “subarachnoid haemorrhage”, as well as having weakness in both is feet and right hand.
He was also left with scars from the wounds that he sustained from the accident.
Suing PUB
According to Shin Min Daily News, they reported that the man will be suing the PUB, taking his case against them to the Supreme Court.
Maung didn’t specify how much was is planning to sue PUB for, but the claims that the Supreme Court generally handles compensation, beginning at about $250,000.
I’d like to hear some views from homeowners on whether it is worth it to go for those higher-end designer renovations from an ID for a BTO flat.
We are newly married and just got our 5-room BTO flat.
We plan to stay for the medium term (7-10 years) or even long term as the location is convenient for us and the place is big enough even if we have kids. We browsed through some reno websites and did some research and really love what we saw for the renovations done by IDs.
We spend much more time at home than outdoors and we wfh partially and so we are thinking to spend a little more to create the environment we like at home. We are quoted from 80k to 6 figures for a higher-end designer reno from ID firms as opposed to 30-60k for a basic renovation.
If we go for the higher-end option, our parents are willing to loan us some money plus we’ll exhaust our current savings.
We do not plan to get a basic one and upgrade to a higher-end reno years later as it would be very inconvenient. Thus we want to do everything in one go.
As it is a big financial commitment, we like to ask people who have gone thru it: if you got either a more expensive reno or a basic one, were you satisfied/ regret it? Is it true that generally the more expensive the reno, the better the quality it is?

I hv had a few renovations in my life, probably 7 times for 4 condo units in different locations.
I hv learned from different architects and interior designers about the rough idea of an estimated budget.
1) Some set budget for the total area of the condo e.g. My condo is 120 sq.m. in BKK. The minimum price per sq.m for renovation should be 10,000 Thai Bht. Or 1.2 MB in total including everything. This is the minimum. But not over 30,000 Bht. per sq.m. or 3.6 MB. OR…
2) 10-30% of the price of the condo. E.g. the condo is 1M sgd, renovation budget should be min 100k sgd, just an idea.
However, it depends whether it is just the interior or interior + infrastructure of the condo e.g. new water pipe, new floor, new ceiling.
I and my husband want to live in a good functional home. Simple design. We invested a lot on wood floor, comfortable on bare feet. It lasts more than 24 years now.
We also invested in bathroom tile and sink. The bathroom tile we chose was hand made in Northern Part of Thailand. Used in 5 stars hotel. Last 24 years, never change.
And the last thing we invested a lot was my kitchen. Ample storage, nice function and last long especially the sink and counter top.
So, it all depends on your brief and how you are going to use your house. My house is like a cute cafe from our guests’ perception. I spend a lot of time at home. Very comfortable and lovely.
I bought 1 beach condo, 60 sq.m. New condo. I set 10% of budget for interior design including electrical appliances, furnitures and curtains.
I painted new color every 7 years, so the houses always look new. Built-in furnitures are expensive. I only had minimum, to utilize space and storage.
Infrastructure should be good quality bec I don’t want to call plumbers/technicians to fix every month
It is so worth every THB that I had spent. Live happily, use every corner especially during lock down period.
The house is not sth we want to fix or do renovation often. Just do the right thing. And keep good maintenance everyday, every way, every room, so you will just need to brush up in the future by changing some furnitures to freshen up your home. No need to do major renovation again even after 20-30 years. Good luck and have fun. Home sweet home
Not planning to have kids – go for higher end reno
Planning to have kids – go for cheap reno. For that matter go for cheap furniture and cheap electronics too.
Kids will wreck havoc on the above.
Actually, you can do the outsourcing for contractors and carpenters. Much cheaper than IDs. You can take your ideas from Pinterest and put on mood board. Moodboard can be cut outs from the photos. Or you can create moodboard in Pinterest. My husband and I never went for IDs as we are designers. We are not in ID field.
The Beluran MP said Malaysia’s move to scrap the ban on the export of chicken overseas.
“The supply of chicken has been slightly disrupted in the past few months. That is why the government has taken some measures to stabilize the situation of chickens in our country. said Minister Datuk Seri Ronald Kiandee.
“One of the measures we took was to abolish the AP and allow imports from overseas while stopping the export of chicken overseas. These steps taken by the government can be seen as a success and stabilized the chicken industry in Malaysia,” he told Parliament.

Previously the Malaysian officials set a maximum price for chicken sales in the local market, initially at RM8.90/kg for chicken and eggs in Peninsular Malaysia for standard round chicken and RM9.90/kg for super round chicken, while eggs are priced at; Grade A eggs 43 cents, B grade eggs 41 cents, C grade eggs 39 cents.
Singapore and chicken supplies
Singapore Minister of State for Sustainability and the Environment Desmond Tan said in a Facebook statement on 4 June that Singapore is bringing in supplies of chicken from other countries, in the wake of Malaysia’s chicken export ban.
Singapore is bringing in chilled chicken from Australia and Thailand, as well as frozen chicken from Brazil and the US.
Singapore consumers will have access to the new supplies in the weeks to come, as Tan said that Singapore’s chicken supply remains stable.

Two HDB blocks located in Toa Payoh will be redeveloped and current tenants will have to relocate.
According to Zao Bao, About 400 affected tenants were informed last year that they would have to relocate by February 15 next year at the latest.
The affected rental flats, Blocks 29 and 31, Toa Payoh Lorong 5, the location is near Toa Payoh Lorong 4 Food Centre and near the well-known Dragon Head Playground (Singapore Heritage).
According to the 2019 Urban Redevelopment Authority Master Plan, the two rental HDB sites are zoned for residential development. Blocks 28, 30, 32 and 33, which originally sat around them, were included in the Selective Entire Redevelopment Scheme (SERS) in 2003 and were demolished to vacant lots.
Relocation
Around 400 tenants will be affected as they have been notified to move out by 15 Feb 2023, they were notified on 12 of July 2021.
The tenants were informed that they had the choice of renting another unit from HDB or buying a flat. HDB flats can be rented from the open market or through our Public Rental Scheme if eligible.
HDB’s public rental flats are meant for lower-income households who have no other housing options or family support. We also provide temporary housing for families who are awaiting the completion of their new flats.
A girl in Cambodia was electrocuted to death after emerging from the shower and using her phone while it was charging.
The incident happened on the morning of 27 July at the girl’s home in Kratie, Cambodia, according to Khmer Times.
The 17-year-old girl, Khorn Srey Pov, who worked as a Chinese translator, was found dead at her home, on her bed lying on top of her phone, which was still plugging into an extension cord beside her.
She was found by the authorities at her home, who discovered that she had finished showering before going to bed, surmising that she died in her sleep from the electrocution.
Some netizens said that people touch live wires all the time and these incidents happen very often, unfortunately.
Another netizen deduced that the girl was electrocuted because he body was still wet from showering and had come into contact with the electricity.

I’m with my girlfriend for 3 years. She’s been bugging me to marry her and its really starting to stress me out. The group visited a cemetery on an offshore island and Lorenzo shared a story about how he and Wesley had used a Chinese ouija board at that very same cemetery about 7 years ago and experienced a terrifying encounter with the supernatural.
Alice
Lorenzo then added that he heard a voice calling out to him and saying a particular name, and Das then asked him to describe the voice, and even asked him for the name that he heard.
Lorenzo then told him that he heard the name “Alice”, as he tried to mimic the voice of the ghost that he heard calling out to him.
Das said that when Lorenzo told him the name, he regretted asking him for the name immediately, as the latter started trembling after that and his face became pale; the environment around them also started to become really cold.
Ghostly voice recording captured
Main host Dennis Chew also started turning pale when Lorenzo said the name, and the crew captured a faint recording of a little girl singing around them.
Lorenzo then appeared to be resisting attempts by an outside force to enter his body, as the perspiration-soaked man then expressed that he was feeling very angry and needed to hurt someone.
The group then left the cemetery and Dennis then told him to think about the sun and light, and he slowly regained himself and colour returned to his cheeks.

A guy recalled how he dealt with a particular schoolmate of his who used to make his life ‘difficult’ back in the days where they were still in school and left him alone in pain.

Quick backstory: I had a schoolmate who would target me and try his best to ruin my life relentlessly. Stuff like purposely destroying important stuff I had, stealing my stuff and throwing them away and convincing tons of people I was some sort of psycho.
I was running on the field one day after school before the start of my CCA.
After a while, this schoolmate of mine appeared and decided to do the routine, he stole my stuff and threw it away and even decided to run with me just to show much faster he was.
I was taking a break sitting down, so I let my leg out and it caused him to trip and fall down. He let out a pretty loud scream, then he starting begging me to bring him to the clinic.
Now the right thing to do would have been to do just that, but I guess it was the pent up anger of seeing a person who spent the better half of the school year wrecking my life, I decided to just take my stuff and leave him there.
The next day, he was absent from school. Apparently the fall caused him to sprain a leg or something, and he needed to be in the hospital for a while.
I do feel kind of bad for causing that and then abandoning him now that I think back of the past but well he should have known better than to mess around with me.
31-years-old Charles Yeo who was out on bail failed to return to Singapore and he is currently wanted by the Singapore Police Force.
Charles Yeo who was on bail went to Vietnam and he is supposed to return to Singapore by July 30th but instead, he went to the United Kingdom.
According to the Police media release, they are currently working with foreign authorities to find Yeo.

He is also charged with wounding the religious feelings of any person under Section 298 of the Penal Code, which carries an imprisonment term of up to three years, a fine, or both.
He was out on bail for other investigations, for criminal breach of trust and forgery offences.
