Rant -I don’t think I will change my mind, but am always open to hearing others thoughts.
I just got into a debate about girls clothing. Specifically that girls should not wear bikinis in public (person is question was 11, so I mean girls as in child).
I’ve put some thought into this because as a teacher I see secondary school girls wear some revealing clothing. And it made me uncomfortable. But final conclusion was it’s the lenses that our society views “females” with that actually is the problem. Any adult that looks at a young girl/boy and decides they are a S object, needs to adjust their thinking.
And even saying, “she shouldn’t dress like that because it’s revealing” is wrong. Because you are now an adult using that lense.
Either one of two things will occur. The girl/boy will be too young to have their peers view it as S, in which case no issue. Or, their peers will view it as S, which is fine, because that indicates that they are at the age to view it as such.
Additional education needs to be has around making smart choices once they are I the age group of discovering their future.
I (F31) have been dating this man (M34) I met online for about three months.
In the first month or so he was extremely nice to me. He’s an overall generous person and everything seemed pretty seamless, so I was excited.
Then slowly, I started noticing that he has some anger issues. It was little things at first, such as being annoyed at waiters/cashiers which turned me off and kept it in the back of my mind. I had a conversation about that behaviour but nothing really came out of it.
Then in the third month or so, I noticed he has intense road rage… I witnessed it first hand (he was about to get out of the car to beat the other person up but I talked him down).
He proceeded to tell me that he once followed someone home after the person honked at him… This was an immediate red flag and I told myself I need to end this relationship soon. He also started acting passive-aggressively towards me for small things, many of which I did not entertain because I was already set on ending things with him when I felt the time was right.
At this point, he has never blown up at me, but I knew it was just a matter of time (at the time I thought i had a couple more weeks but boy was I wrong)
We had booked a non-refundable weekend trip a couple of months ago that was very pricey and due to other circumstances, I felt like I couldn’t back out. I had in my mind that I was going to end things right after the trip and 2.5 days would be manageable.
The trip started out really really well and we had a lot of fun until we came across issues with our car. Long story short, he began yelling at me and accusing me of misplacing an item when I know for a fact I did NOT touch it.
I tried to calmly tell him that I did not touch the item and he continuously tried to gaslight me into saying that it was my fault. At this point, I just shut up because I didn’t want to escalate the situation further.
He then yelled some instructions at me but I could not understand because he was yelling so I snapped and said “why the fuck are you yelling at me?”. At this point, he got really close to my face and I never seen such intense rage in someones eye and said “You dont know the F about anything”.
After that, I just completely shut down and my instincts kicked in to stay down and not escalate the situation. We drove back to our hotel and he did not speak a word to me AT ALL. We just sat in silence for 20 hours until we got back home. That night, I barely slept as I was not sure what he was capable of, I have never been that scared of someone in my entire life.
Once I felt I was safe since I was back in town, I told him that I never felt as disrespected as I did in my entire life and he had the audacity to tell me he never said that.
He tried to gaslight me into thinking that I made that shit up but I stood my ground and told him that nobody in my life has ever said those things to me, how could I have conjured it up in my head? He kept trying to deny my statement but at this point I told him I wanted to stop talking and that I’m done and just drove away.
Once I was alone in my room I began trembling.
Question:
So… has anybody ever experienced something similar? I feel OK now and glad I ended things quickly, but I am quite worried about any potential retaliation… I do not think he will do anything physically to me now that I am back home, but I am kind of a paranoid person. Anybody has any advice on what else I can do to keep myself safe or am I overthinking this situation?
According to the head of consumer banking for DBS Bank, Jeremy Soo, DBS has raised interest rates for its Multiplier Deposit Account.
The move was done by DBS Bank to help customers of the bank cope with the rising costs in expenses due to inflation.
Since 2020, this marks the first time that interest rates are being raised after it was previously cut thrice in the same year.
Changes already in force since 1 August 2022
For the DBS Multiplier deposit account, as long as customers do their banking transactions with DBS or POSB in larger amounts and in more categories, higher interest rates will apply to them.
These also applies to categories like:
DBS or POSB credit card spending
Mortgage payments
Investments
Eligibility criteria for this includes:
Crediting their salaries or dividends to DBS or POSB
Connecting SGFinDex to DBS NAV Planner
Customers must also transact in one of the following categories:
Interest rates in all these categories across all the different transaction amounts have all increased up to 0.8 percent for spending in three or more than three categories mentioned above.
Here are the changes
An example of how the increase works would be if a Multiplier deposit account holder credits his or her salary into the account and has transactions in 1 category with a total value of $5,000, he or she will have an increased interest rate of 1% per annum as compared to the previous 0.5% per annum on his or her first $25,000.
Mr Soo also shared that the income earned by almost 500,000 of DBS’ customers were trailing behind inflation and their expenses went up to almost twice faster than their income in the previous year.
He added in a statement saying:
“While the effects of inflation cannot be easily avoided, it is now more critical than ever for us to do all we can to collectively lessen the pain for our customers, especially those in the most vulnerable groups, by protecting their savings and grow their wealth.”
“The latest revisions to the DBS Multiplier program are among the initiatives DBS/POSB is reviewing to ensure our customers have access to relevant solutions and the know-how to save more, spend wisely and invest smartly to give them a stronger footing to navigate today’s uncertainties but not compromise on their future financial wellbeing.”
A netizen shared how she has seen many of her former classmates become insurance or real estate agents.
She said that these people were some of the “most irresponsible and lazy people” she knew and now after joining the insurance or real estate industry, they are “suddenly the most responsible hustler trying to sell you an expensive insurance package or a house.”
They would then attempt to justify their presence in the insurance or real estate industry by saying “I’m hustling to help my clients not for the money” and etcetera.
Here is what she said
Graduated from NUS a few years back and I’ve seen plenty of classmates turn to insurance or real estate.
The moment this happens, their ig accounts immediately evolve into major cringe fests splattered with motivational quotes, “I’m hustling to help my clients not for the money”, “I’m all about sharing knowledge”, xx achiever for the month and thank you to my entire ancestry line.
Firstly let’s be real, you are there for the money so just own it. Next, just to clarify I really respect some friends who are working in this industry because it really is hard work.
However, some people really make me sick because I’ve seen how they were like back in school.
They were some of the most irresponsible and lazy people around who can’t even be punctual for important things, yet now they are suddenly the most responsible hustler trying to sell you an expensive insurance package or a house.
Erm seriously, even if I were desperate, I probably wouldn’t trust you with my money given how two-face you are.
Netizens’ comments
Worst kind is they post themselves in “expensive” cars and watches that do not belong to them then write essay in their bio. Really cringe fest….. Then tell people that they join the industry because they want to help people and make an impact. Please join NGO or charity if the main purpose is to help…..
And then you have those who use dating apps to sell insurance…
My husband loaned his sister a little over $300,000 because she wanted to start a business. It has been 5 years and we haven’t seen a single cent back.
Her business is running successfully so it’s not like she blew it away.
Whenever I ask my husband to talk to his sister about the money he loaned her, he would tell me to chill and change the topic immediately. When I corner him, he would tell me that it’s a small amount and he won’t lose his sleep over it, and ask me to drop the topic altogether.
It got to a point where I felt I should step in and ask her myself, so I did last week and she told me that my husband told her that the money was a gift to her and not a loan. I thought she was joking, but she wasn’t.
I immediately confronted my husband and his face said it all. He has been lying to me for the past 5 years because he knew I wouldn’t approve of the gift.
This has caused me some serious trusting issues, so I told him that I can’t trust him with anything anymore, and he thinks I’m overreacting and being an asshole for no reason.
It’s his own hard-earned money and not mine. Besides, I signed a prenup with an alimony waiver so it’s not about the money.

I’d like to hear some views from homeowners on whether it is worth it to go for those higher-end designer renovations from an ID for a BTO flat.
We are newly married and just got our 5-room BTO flat.
We plan to stay for the medium term (7-10 years) or even long term as the location is convenient for us and the place is big enough even if we have kids. We browsed through some reno websites and did some research and really love what we saw for the renovations done by IDs.
We spend much more time at home than outdoors and we wfh partially and so we are thinking to spend a little more to create the environment we like at home. We are quoted from 80k to 6 figures for a higher-end designer reno from ID firms as opposed to 30-60k for a basic renovation.
If we go for the higher-end option, our parents are willing to loan us some money plus we’ll exhaust our current savings.
We do not plan to get a basic one and upgrade to a higher-end reno years later as it would be very inconvenient. Thus we want to do everything in one go.
As it is a big financial commitment, we like to ask people who have gone thru it: if you got either a more expensive reno or a basic one, were you satisfied/ regret it? Is it true that generally the more expensive the reno, the better the quality it is?
Here are what netizens think:
I hv had a few renovations in my life, probably 7 times for 4 condo units in different locations.
I hv learned from different architects and interior designers about the rough idea of an estimated budget.
1) Some set budget for the total area of the condo e.g. My condo is 120 sq.m. in BKK. The minimum price per sq.m for renovation should be 10,000 Thai Bht. Or 1.2 MB in total including everything. This is the minimum. But not over 30,000 Bht. per sq.m. or 3.6 MB. OR…
2) 10-30% of the price of the condo. E.g. the condo is 1M sgd, renovation budget should be min 100k sgd, just an idea.
However, it depends whether it is just the interior or interior + infrastructure of the condo e.g. new water pipe, new floor, new ceiling.
I and my husband want to live in a good functional home. Simple design. We invested a lot on wood floor, comfortable on bare feet. It lasts more than 24 years now.
We also invested in bathroom tile and sink. The bathroom tile we chose was hand made in Northern Part of Thailand. Used in 5 stars hotel. Last 24 years, never change.
And the last thing we invested a lot was my kitchen. Ample storage, nice function and last long especially the sink and counter top.
So, it all depends on your brief and how you are going to use your house. My house is like a cute cafe from our guests’ perception. I spend a lot of time at home. Very comfortable and lovely.
I bought 1 beach condo, 60 sq.m. New condo. I set 10% of budget for interior design including electrical appliances, furnitures and curtains.
I painted new color every 7 years, so the houses always look new. Built-in furnitures are expensive. I only had minimum, to utilize space and storage.
Infrastructure should be good quality bec I don’t want to call plumbers/technicians to fix every month
It is so worth every THB that I had spent. Live happily, use every corner especially during lock down period.
The house is not sth we want to fix or do renovation often. Just do the right thing. And keep good maintenance everyday, every way, every room, so you will just need to brush up in the future by changing some furnitures to freshen up your home. No need to do major renovation again even after 20-30 years. Good luck and have fun. Home sweet home
Not planning to have kids – go for higher end reno
Planning to have kids – go for cheap reno. For that matter go for cheap furniture and cheap electronics too.
Kids will wreck havoc on the above.
Actually, you can do the outsourcing for contractors and carpenters. Much cheaper than IDs. You can take your ideas from Pinterest and put on mood board. Moodboard can be cut outs from the photos. Or you can create moodboard in Pinterest. My husband and I never went for IDs as we are designers. We are not in ID field.
The Beluran MP said Malaysia’s move to scrap the ban on the export of chicken overseas.
“The supply of chicken has been slightly disrupted in the past few months. That is why the government has taken some measures to stabilize the situation of chickens in our country. said Minister Datuk Seri Ronald Kiandee.
“One of the measures we took was to abolish the AP and allow imports from overseas while stopping the export of chicken overseas. These steps taken by the government can be seen as a success and stabilized the chicken industry in Malaysia,” he told Parliament.
Looking to export
“We currently have an oversupply of chicken, which has now caused the prices of chicken in the market to be lower than that of the ceiling price,”
Previously the Malaysian officials set a maximum price for chicken sales in the local market, initially at RM8.90/kg for chicken and eggs in Peninsular Malaysia for standard round chicken and RM9.90/kg for super round chicken, while eggs are priced at; Grade A eggs 43 cents, B grade eggs 41 cents, C grade eggs 39 cents.
Singapore and chicken supplies
Singapore Minister of State for Sustainability and the Environment Desmond Tan said in a Facebook statement on 4 June that Singapore is bringing in supplies of chicken from other countries, in the wake of Malaysia’s chicken export ban.
Singapore is bringing in chilled chicken from Australia and Thailand, as well as frozen chicken from Brazil and the US.
Singapore consumers will have access to the new supplies in the weeks to come, as Tan said that Singapore’s chicken supply remains stable.
As a woman working in the customer service line, I love my job. I like the hours and the pay. I don’t need to bring my work home.
I also like the aspect of looking well groomed for the job. I’ve managed to save more than half my monthly salary and clock up a decent amount in just a few years.
I really enjoy the freedom and independence that this job brings me. And it’s very satisfying when I get a great feedback from a happy customer.
My only gripe with this job is that I get picked up so often by men who mistaken my smiles as being interested in them and I get asked out or touched instead.
I hated this part so much I wore a wedding ring even though I’m single. The worst part is that some of my other colleagues say I am stupid for cutting off my fortune path. I may meet a rich guy but I ruined it for myself.
I also sometimes get inappropriate treatment from male colleagues who were on good terms but suddenly just want to see if I’m keen to sleep around. This is offensive to me. I’ve never felt that I’ve given any vibes that I’m available.
To be friendly and approachable is a part of my job. A smile does that? To show an act of concern and care just because my JOB requires me to behave this way makes a guy think that?
Once I wasn’t having a good day, a male colleague walked over and asked me to smile. The tone was kinda rude but I sucked it up and finished my day in my professional best. I find the more advances I get, the more I start to keep to myself.
I just want to get my job done, get my pay and go home alone at the end of the day. Why can’t these men get it? A smile doesn’t mean I want to sleep with you!
