According to the Police media release, 43 people were arrested for this suspected involvement in illegal gambling.

The 43 suspects age ranged from 22 to 81, 30 are men and 13 are women.

Island-wide raid

Bedok North Street 3 (Nov 20 2021)

8 men were arrested, aged between the ages of 26 to 72, allegedly gambling along Bedok North Street 3 at a Hawker Centre.

$580 in cash was seized

Geylang Lorong 15 (Dec 18 2021)

4 men and 5 women were arrested, aged between the ages of 47 to 81, investigations revealed that the 47-year-old is the operator.

Geylang Lorong 16 (Dec 24 2021)

4 men and 5 women were arrested, aged between the ages of 46 to 70. Investigations revealed that the unit was used to operate online casino and slot games activities.

Cash amounting to $1,885 and computer equipment were seized.

Jalan Pinang (2 Jan 2022)

7 men and 5 women were arrested, aged between the ages of 24 to 65. The illegal gambling den is believed to be operated by a 37-year-old.

The Police also seized 13 modified computers and about $3,300 cash for investigations.

Verdun Road (Jan 4 2022)

7 men and 1 woman were arrested, aged between the ages of 22 to 59. The gambling den is believed to operated by a 22 year old man and a 28 year old woman.

cash amounting to more than $94,000 and gambling-related paraphernalia were seized.

Penalties:

Any person convicted of an offence of managing a place to be used as a common gaming house under Section 4(1)(c) of the Common Gaming Houses Act, shall be liable to a fine of between $5,000 and $50,000, with imprisonment term of up to three years.

As for the patrons, any person convicted of an offence of gaming in a common gaming house under Section 7 of the Common Gaming Houses Act, shall be liable to a fine of up to $5,000, imprisonment term of up to six months, or both.

Any person convicted of an offence of gaming in a public place under Section 8(2) of the Common Gaming Houses Act, shall be liable to a fine not exceeding $5,000, imprisonment for a term not exceeding six months, or to both.

Any person convicted of an offence of promoting or facilitating gaming in a public place under Section 8(4) of the Common Gaming Houses Act, shall be liable to a fine between $20,000 and $200,000, and imprisonment for a term not exceeding five years.

Under Section 8(1)(b) of the Remote Gambling Act, an individual who, in Singapore, gambles using remote communication and using a remote gambling service that is not provided by a person otherwise exempt shall be guilty of an offence and shall be liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding $5,000, imprisonment for a term not exceeding six months, or both.

Under Sec 9(1)(e) of the same Act, any person who assists in providing unlawful remote gambling service for another shall be guilty of an offence and shall be liable on conviction to a fine of not less than $20,000 and not more than $200,000, imprisonment for a term not exceeding five years, or both.

According to the Police media release, a 53-year-old man was arrested for his suspected involvement in a case of snatch theft.

The incident happened last Thursday (Jan 20) at around 11.20 AM. The Police were alerted by the victim that an unknown man had snatched her jewellery along Jurong West Street 93.

A gold necklace and gold pendant was lost.

Arrested in 5 hours.

Officers from Jurong Division, Police Operations Command Centre and Police Transport Security Command worked together and managed to unveil the identity of the man.

Through Police CCTV and ground investigations the 53-year-old suspect along Boon Lay Drive within 5 hours after the crime was reported.

The Police were able to retire the stolen jewellery.

Charged

The man was charged on Saturday (22 Jan) for snatch theft under Section 356 of the Penal Code 1871.

If the man is found guilty he will be jailed for a minimum of 1 year and up to 7 years and cane.

The incident was reported at Block 637 Hougang Avenue 8 on 9 January 2022.

Penalties:

For first-time offenders, the offence of loanshark harassment carries a fine of not less than $5,000 and not more than $50,000, with mandatory imprisonment of up to five years, and mandatory caning of up to six strokes.

The Police have zero tolerance for loanshark harassment activities. Those who deliberately vandalise properties, cause annoyance, or disrupt public safety, peace and security, will be dealt with severely in accordance with the law.
