Residents in Jurong West Street 61 are fuming, as one of the units in that particular block has seen a steady stream of men who flock there. Residents said that for the last one year, the rented unit has housed a number of foreign women, and some were shocked to learn that it operates as a brothel.
Despite a number of raids in the area, such brothels keep returning, attracted by low rents and the belief that they are less likely to be detected there. Residents have given feedback to the relevant authorities that more enforcement in the area is needed, as there are also now more reports of brothels operating out from heartland HDB blocks, and not only in the Jurong West one.
Ms Vanessa Ho, director of sex workers’ rights group Project X, believes increased police raids on unlicensed brothels in Geylang could have resulted in businesses moving to public housing. “We know a handful of sex workers who work out of HDB flats, and I estimate that there must be hundreds of such brothels,” she said.
Enforcement action since January shows at least 82 women have been arrested for suspected involvement in vice activities within residential areas and units.

Singapore and Thailand are in talks about associating their national computerized installment frameworks to fashion a remarkable local organization together, as authorities venture up endeavors to check the utilization of money.

Focused Threat
Computerized based installment exchanges – including electronic reserve exchanges, e-wallets, charge cards and portable and internet managing an account – have become around 30% every year for as long as five years, he included.
Southeast Asia’s banks are bracing for a focused attack in the midst of forceful development designs by China’s Goliath budgetary innovation firms, for example, Ant Financial, the installments member of tycoon Jack Ma’s Alibaba Group Holding Ltd.
Thai banks have a motivating force to support computerized installments “to guarantee they can contend with potential challengers from abroad, including any semblance of Alipay and WeChat, which as of now serve just Chinese voyagers in Thailand,” Mr. Naphongthawat said.

The boy was on the way home from grocery shopping. He saw Mr Syed Hashim Wahid, 29, standing by the rubbish chute. When the boy stepped in the lift, Mr Hashim went in the same lift. He then started talking to the boy, before he molested him near his groin area.
The boy was too afraid, perhaps traumatised by the action, to tell anyone at home on what happened.
The next day, the same situation happened again and Mr Hashim tried to do the same thing. This led the boy to take action and told his mother about what happened. A neighbour reported this matter to the police a few days later.
Mr Hashim was sentenced to 10 months jail. He could have faced 2 years in jail along with caning and/or fined for this matter.
