PRC MAN ROB STUDENTS AFTER LOSING ALL HIS MONEY AT MARINA BAY SANDS CASINO

After losing all his money at the casino, the PRC man had an idea to steal laptops and mobile phones from students at universities and polytechnic campuses. On 9 occasions, he went in various schools to steal and 11 students became a victim of his crime. In totality, The stolen devices worth almost $20,000.

The 40-year-old defendant, Li Qichong, pleaded guilty on Friday to three charges of theft and the remaining six charges of theft were also taken into consideration by the judge for the sentencing, he was sentenced to 16 months imprisonment.

The defendant is a self-employed businessman and also a serial gambler, he often flies from China to Singapore to play at Marina Bay Sands Casino. However, luck was not on his side and he eventually lost all the money and started stealing to recover his losses.

The defendant has heard in China that Singaporeans like to leave mobile phones and computers in campus unattended, so every time he loses money through gambling, he would go to polytechnics and university campuses to steal students’ mobile phones and laptops.

In one of these cases, which occurred on October 9, 2018, the defendant went to the NUS campus at 2 pm and found a laptop on a table and he ran off with it.

The case revealed that the female student had left her laptop that was worth S$3,000 on the desk because she had lunch with her classmates.

Court documents revealed that the crimes occurred between October 9, 2018, and June 19 2019. The defendant would sell the devices in China after stealing,

The lawyer pleaded for the defendant, saying that the defendant’s mother died on 14 September 2019 and he had lost her only relative in the world. The defendant was heartbroken. The defendant was a first offender and he regretted it. But it seems like it has nothing to do with what he had done in 2018

Seyad received seven-year preventive detention (PD) sentence on 26/12/2019.

What is PD?

Preventive Detention is for repeat offenders that are over the age of 30 years old and with no chance of sentence reduction, in other word keep him lock up to prevent further crime.

His crimes against children went way back and he started his first corrective training in back in 1999. He has spent years in jail and was given the rotan punishment before. He was convicted again in 2012 but was released from prison in March last year.

How did it happen?

The incident happened in May, Seyad worked as a cleaner at Far East Plaza, he was on his way onboard a public bus at around 7.30 am. A boy boarded the bus and knew who Seyad is as he had interacted with Seyad before. Court documents did not indicate if he was friends with the boy.

Seyed signalled the boy who just boarded the bus to sit beside him and Seyad gave the boy $2 for unknown reasons.

He then begun to molest the boy’s thigh also put his hand around the shoulders of the boy. Before Seyad steps down from the bus, he gave the boy a “flying kiss”.

On June 11, a different boy boarded the same bus service, again he signaled the the boy to come over and began molesting the boy’s thighs

The child resisted and tried to leave Seyad.

The boy informed his sister and the parents found out about the incident. A police report was made by the boy’s father.

ALL THIS OVERSEAS MARKET IN SG ARE BULLS*IT

A netizen send in an email about overseas night markets in Singapore

The following is an email from Aaron Tan

There have been all these so-called “popular night markets” from overseas and companies has been “bringing in” these night markets, some from Taiwan and some from Bangkok.

The reason I am writing this is because of the disappointment of these night markets from previous organisers. Nothing but a cheap knock off.

More than half the time 90% of the vendors are local and out of the remaining 10% are from overseas. Out of the 10%, only 1 or 2 vendors are actually famous and have some appeal in terms of food and product quality.

Companies are not bringing in overseas markets in Singapore, it’s just using the name of the night markets and bringing in some of the vendors. As the night markets are typically named after the location of the market, there is no actual ownership of the market’s name and anyone can use it.

While its obvious that most vendors are not from overseas, visitors still jump in and pay for the overprice and glorified Pasar Malam.

Some organisers are truly flying in the vendor

Yes, its true that some organisers are actually flying the vendors to join the market, but who is there to be certain of the authenticity of the vendors.

It’s better to save the trip to these cheap knock offs and save the money for the real experience overseas.
