PAY MORE FOR NETFLIX IN 2020 BECAUSE OF GST.

Thanks to a Good & Service Tax bill that was passed in Parliament(19 November). Singapore Netflix customers will need to start paying for GST in Jan 2020.

We made a break down on what we have to pay more

As the bill requires overseas companies to pay GST if they have an annual global turnover above $1 million and makes more than $100,000 in providing digital services to Singapore.

Any local business which is leveraging on overseas vendors such as hosting providers will have to increase the running cost of the business.

WOMAN WITH ALZHEIMER’S MISSING, SON SEEKS HELP TO FIND HER

23 YEAR OLD SMU STUDENT CAUGHT FILMING WOMEN IN TOILET

23-year-old SMU student, Hoon Qi Tong who was on his internship took upskirt of his colleagues and later lost the interest in such videos and started filming women in the toilet.

On three occasions he attempted to film a woman and was caught by the victim on his third attempt and arrested by the Police. He pleaded guilty to one charge of insulting a woman’s modesty.

Earlier today, he was sentenced to 14 days detention.

How it happened

In 2017, Hoon started his internship at a company that cannot be named to protect the victim. On the 13 of September 2017, He noticed that his colleague a 31-year-old female was going to the toilet and he followed her.

He then waited for the victim to enter the cubicle before entering the female toilet. After he was certain that the victim is in the cubicle, he used his phone and filmed her from the top of the cubicle.

The victim heard noises and look up and she saw the phone, she immediately confronted him and told him to delete the footage.

After his superiors found out about what he did, he was immediately terminated and the police were alerted.

MAN JAILED AFTER ABDUCTING DRUNK GIRL TO HOTEL 81 AT LAVENDER

Shamsul Abdullah, A 53-year-old man faces one count of abduction and two counts for molestation after he had tried to bring a drunk girl to a hotel, he was on trial on the 29 November 2019.

The incident happened on the 15 of May 2016 at around 1.18 am. The 52-year-old man took the opportunity to bring the intoxicated girl into a taxi after her friend left her. The man then instructed the Taxi driver to bring them to a hotel.

The girl regained some consciousness after the taxi reached the destination. After the girl steps out of the Taxi, She called the Police claiming that the man has molested her and tried to abduct her.

The 52-year-old pleaded not guilty in court. The judge ruled in court that he was found guilty of abduction, but not guilty of two indecent assaults.

The judge pointed out that the victim was drunk at that time and was almost unconscious. Her testimony was not credible and the taxi driver was the only reliable witness.

On the 18 December 2019

The judege sentenced him to eight months’ jail for abduction.

POLICE LOOKING FOR WOMAN INVOLVED IN A CASE OF MISAPPROPRIATION OF PROPERTY

According to a Police media release, the police are looking for the woman in the below photo to assist with investigations into a case of dishonest misappropriation of property.

The incident was reported on the 1st November 2019 along Hong Kong Street.

What is “misappropriation of property”(MOP), to put it in simple terms, it means using a person or an organization’s property inappropriately even knowing the fact that it is a behavior of dishonesty.

Mr A found a wallet with that contents money and the identity of a person, knowing the fact that the wallet does not belong to him he uses the money, he will be found guilty.

If the woman is found guilty, he shall be punished with an imprisonment term of up to 2 years and/or with a fine.

NUS STUDENT WHO FILMED WOMAN SHOWERING FACING MORE CHARGES

26-year-old, Joel Rasis Ismail was charged in May for one count of criminal trespass and insulting the modesty of a woman

But on Wednesday 18 December 2019, he is now facing 9 new charges, six of which is trespassing in a residential toilet in NUS, known as the Kuok Foundation House.

The remaining three charges were related to upskirt videos

  • 2 June 2016 – Took upskirt video at an office in Tanjong Pagar
  • 24 May 2016 – Took upskirt video at Tanjong Pagar MRT escalator
  • 6 June 2016 – Took upskirt video at Tanjong Pagar MRT escalator

In total, he is now facing 11 charges. He is currently still a student of NUS and has been suspended since he was caught filming the 23-year-old in the shower earlier this year.

According to Yahoo News: “The student may resume his studies only after he is certified fit for return to campus by relevant professionals after the suspension” 

He will be back in court on the 24 Jan 2020.

Other Universities like NTU do not tolerate such behaviour, an example is the recent case of a student getting expelled for a similar offence.

75 YEAR OLD WOMAN WITH SLIGHT DEMENTIA MISSING, HELP HER GET HOME

According to the Singapore Police Force, they are seeking information on the whereabouts of a 75-year-old.

The address indicated by the Police is at Flo Residence Blk 5 Punggol Field Walk.

She was last seen wearing Red and Black Top, Black Bermudas and wearing slippers. She is suffering from slight Dementia and right palm is bandaged.

TEENAGER SMOKES VAPE ON BUS AND APPEARS TO BE “PROUD”

A video is circulating in Whatsapp of a teenager smoking on a public bus.He/She is wearing a Hello Kitty T-shirt. Obviously, a friend sabotage and put the video on the internet.

Since February last year, it has been illegal to possess, purchase or use e-vaporisers, and offenders can be fined up to $2,000.

Anyone found guilty of selling, importing or distributing e-vaporisers can be fined up to $10,000, jailed for up to six months, or both.

MAN TRIES TO STEAL FROM FOOD DELIVERY RIDER BUT GOT CAUGHT REDHANDED A JURONG WEST

(From WhatsApp) “This afternoon my husband was sending food delivery at blk 952 jurong west. “

“This guy was sitting at the void deck, he saw my husband went to send food. He went to open my husband thermal bag, to find any valuable item. “

“Luckily my husband send food to 2nd level, the guy saw my husband and quickly run away. All rider, please be careful of all your belongings. Never put the valuable item at our motorbike/scooter. “

It is believed that the man tried to hide his identity when he was caught.

If your a deliveryman, think twice before leaving your vehicle unattended as there are “opportunities” that are waiting to earn a small buck from doing this.

MEN SEND TO HOSPITAL AFTER ATTACKED WITH DANGEROUS WEAPON AT PASIR RIS

According to a Police media release, three men between 19 and 22 were arrested for assaulting a man on Monday (16 December 2019) for their suspected involvement in a case of voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapon. 

The incident happened on 16 December 2019 at around 5.20 am along Pasir Ris Street 52 , the Police were alerted to an assault case and the victim who was found with multiple injuries.

He was conveyed conscious to the hospital.

According to the Police:

Through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from police cameras, officers from Bedok Police Division established the identity of the three men and arrested them along Jalan Loyang Besar on the same day.

The three men will be charged in court on 18 December 2019 for voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapon with common intention under Section 324 read with Section 34 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224. Anyone convicted for voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapon may be punished with an imprisonment term of up to 7 years, and shall also be liable to a fine or caning.
