E-BIKE RIDER SUDDENLY DASHED ONTO ROAD & KENA BANG BY CAR, THEN DEMANDS $5.3K COMPENSATION

In the early hours of September 11, an unexpected collision took place at an industrial estate in Yishun, Singapore. A man riding a power-assisted bicycle (PAB) suddenly dashed out of an alley and onto the road, catching the driver by surprise and getting hit by the car in the process.

The Collision Caught on Camera

According to the individual who shared the video, the PAB rider darted out of an alley without wearing a helmet, and his headlight was off, creating a potentially dangerous situation for both him and other road users.

As captured in the video, the car was navigating through a road within an industrial compound. Approaching a junction that led to a smaller alley, the power-assisted bicycle (PAB) abruptly entered the road, leading to a sudden and unavoidable collision.

The Consequences

The impact of the collision sent the PAB rider tumbling off his bicycle. He landed on his feet but not without losing a slipper during the process. Moments later, he approached the car, and unfortunately, the video cuts off, leaving us with limited insight into the immediate aftermath.

The Demand for Compensation

Adding another layer to this incident, SG Road Vigilante shared a screenshot of a WhatsApp message allegedly sent by the PAB rider. In the message, he demanded compensation amounting to S$5,300, broken down as follows:

  1. Bike: S$1,500
  2. Phone: S$1,800
  3. Loss of Income: S$2,000

This demand raised eyebrows and ignited a debate among netizens regarding who was truly at fault and whether such compensation was warranted.

The Online Backlash

Responses to this incident flooded online platforms, and the sentiment was overwhelmingly against compensating the PAB rider. Many individuals opined that the rider was in the wrong, primarily because he did not adhere to traffic rules. Riding without a helmet and with the headlight off, especially in the early hours, raised questions about his responsibility as a road user.

Netizens’ comments

  1. Car driver should counter-sue for compensation of $ 2,000 (car repairs), $ 6,000 (loss of income due to car in workshop), $ 15,000 (emotional trauma and suffering) and $ 30,000 (treatment and counselling cost). Total $ 53,000.
  2. So many such delivery pests around. Saw one myself near lau pa sat yesterday, an uncle rode recklessly, cursing a van, cut through three lanes, and squeezed through a pedestrian crossing when pedestrians were crossing.
  3. LOL! Its quite funny how he asked your friend to compensate him when he should he compensating your friend’s vehicle. How did that even happened
  4. The rider shud be reported for riding without due to safety..and proper look out , etc ..
  5. Don’t compensate when such idiots do not comply with traffic rules.
  6. Amazing they ride on roads but they don’t know the law and ask for compensation! Good good hope you got his particulars cause you need it to counter sue him back maybe 10 times for distress and repair cost for damages and downtime!

YAO SIU MOTORCYCLIST WITH LICENSE PLATE SMALLER THAN FINGERNAIL, CAUGHT BY POLICE

0

In a bizarre turn of events, a Malaysian motorist recently made headlines for all the wrong reasons. The culprit? A minuscule license plate that could barely be seen by the eye.

This incident unfolded during a routine operation conducted by the Road Transport Department Malaysia (JPJ) to crack down on traffic violations.

The 2023 Motorcycle Special Operation

The story began on September 2nd when the JPJ initiated a comprehensive operation aimed at enforcing traffic regulations.

This operation was part of the larger 2023 Motorcycle Special Operation, conducted nationwide throughout the month of September.

The primary focus of this operation was to target individuals who were not adhering to the rules and regulations outlined in the Malaysian Road Transport Act 1987 (Act 333).

The Extraordinary Discovery

While numerous violations were recorded during the operation, one particular motorcycle stood out from the rest due to its exceptionally small license plate. A JPJ officer captured this peculiar sight and shared it on social media.

In the photograph, the JPJ officer can be seen standing next to the motorcycle’s puny license plate. To emphasize its size, he placed his finger next to the plate, highlighting just how tiny it was.

The Legal Requirements

In Malaysia, the law mandates that number plates must be displayed on both the front and back of a vehicle. Furthermore, these plates must be clearly visible from a distance of at least 2.3 meters during the day and 1.8 meters at night.

The Consequences

For the Malaysian motorist with the miniature license plate, the consequences were swift and severe. Violations related to license plates can result in fines ranging from RM300 (S$87.50) to RM3,000 (S$875). The exact penalty depends on the severity of the violation and the discretion of the authorities.

Violations Under Scrutiny

During this operation, the JPJ had its sights set on two key violations:

Ignoring Traffic Signals

First and foremost, they were on the lookout for motorists who blatantly disregarded traffic light signals. This reckless behavior not only endangers the lives of the violators but also poses a significant risk to other road users.

Riding Without Helmets

The second violation under scrutiny was the failure to use helmets while riding motorcycles. Helmet use is paramount for ensuring the safety of motorcyclists, as it provides protection in the event of accidents.

The Statistics

The operation was far-reaching, involving inspections of 1,302 motorists. Out of this total, 691 motorcycles were found to be in violation of various traffic regulations.

Summon Notices Issued

To address these violations, the JPJ issued a staggering 642 Summon Notices P (22). These notices serve as legal warnings to individuals who have committed traffic offenses.

Confiscation of Motorcycles

Additionally, 205 motorcycles were confiscated during the operation. This action is taken as a means of enforcing compliance with traffic laws and ensuring that violators face appropriate consequences.

BRIDE RECEIVES WEDDING ANGPAO WITH HAND-DRAWN MONEY INSIDE, “THIS IS THE WORST”

0

In the realm of wedding gifts, surprises come in various forms. For one Malaysian woman, her wedding day brought forth an unexpected twist in the form of two hand-drawn RM20 (S$5.83) notes.

The Discovery

The story unfolds as the newlywed bride sat down to count the monetary gifts received during her wedding festivities.

Among the sea of envelopes and well-wishing tokens, she stumbled upon something out of the ordinary – two conspicuously hand-drawn RM20 notes.

A Novel Currency?

As she showcased the legitimate Malaysian ringgit she had counted, the camera panned down to reveal these unique creations.

Her initial reaction was a blend of astonishment and amusement. She quipped, “What kind of new currency is this? Some are so advanced in their thinking. I always thought that empty ang paos are bad enough but this is much worse.”

Mixed Reactions

The video she shared on TikTok garnered a mixed response from viewers. Some found humor in her unexpected predicament, while others applauded the artistic ingenuity of the person responsible for the hand-drawn notes.

One commentator even humorously suggested that she should consider holding an “art exhibition” for these unique pieces, awarding them a coveted five-star rating for their creativity.

A Lesson in Intentions

While many found amusement in the situation, others took a more contemplative stance. One comment carried a sincere message, advising the bride to reflect on her intentions behind hosting a wedding banquet.

“Why are you expecting your wedding guests to give you money? Don’t have a wedding banquet if you expect your guests to help you pay for it, have it because of your own sincerity.” the commenter advised.

Another perspective was shared, suggesting that the person who presented the hand-drawn notes may not have been in a position to provide a substantial monetary gift. Their gesture might have been driven by empathy rather than a lack of generosity.

GIRL’S STEPDAD MISTREATED HER, NOW ALL ALONE WITH NO ONE LEFT

0

I’m glad my stepdad is sad after I barely associate with him

My sister revealed how sad my mom’s husband felt about me barely talking to him, and I’m happy about it.

Like any other black sheep of the family, he treated me like crap by doing his dirt behind the scenes blaming everyone else, mostly me, for his actions, and releasing any other anger he had onto me.

I finally got my big girl job and packed my bags, moved into my apartment, and barely talked to those who did me wrong growing up without any regrets.

Now, he’s all alone because no one in the family really likes him anymore and just knowing his karma has arrived brings me joy.

Netizens’ comments

  • What he did to you wasn’t right, but time dilates and dilutes, forgiveness is a form of healing for you as well, you could try reaching out and help each other move on.
  • Good for you!

GIRL STALKS GUY SHE REJECTED ON LINKEDIN

0

I went out a couple of times with this guy, but I think we both knew we shouldn’t be a thing, amicably called it off, said we’d stay friends, and naturally never talked again.

I started using LinkedIn to get more job opportunities around the same time and he came up as a suggested connection. I remembered this was his only sort of social media and clicked on his profile. I checked out his profile a few more times whenever he popped into my mind for some reason with the most recent being today. I told myself it was kinda weird and decided to stop. About an hour later I get a connection request from him. Why would he think it’s a good idea?

Then it hits me: LinkedIn notifies people when someone views their profile. He got a notification, Every. Single. Time. Also turns out that there’s a private mode and this could’ve all been avoided. I don’t know what to do now besides simmer in the embarrassment.

He then text me last week asking me if we should talk, I think I might have gave him the wrong signal by stalking his Linkedin profile.

What should I do? If I meet him, he will get awkward if I don’t meet him he will think I’m some creep hiding behind my computer and looking at his photos.

RIOT IN BATAM INVOLVING MORE THAN 1,000 PEOPLE, 16 POLICE OFFICERS END UP IN HOSPITAL

0

Update: The number of people arrested have risen to 43.

In recent events, the peaceful island of Rempang, part of the Riau Islands in Indonesia, has become the center of a heated controversy.

A mass demonstration on September 11th turned into a riot involving more than 1,000 people and resulted in the arrest of 27 individuals following a clash between demonstrators and police officers, according to Detik.

This clash not only caused significant injuries to 16 police officers but also stirred up a debate over the relocation of a Malay village on Rempang Island.

The Mass Demonstration

The demonstration that unfolded on September 11th in front of the Badan Pengusahaan (BP) office in Batam City, Riau Island, involved more than 1,000 people, according to Kompas.

Among the protesters were members of the community from Riau Island and residents from West Sumatra and West Kalimantan.

Their collective goal was to express their strong objection to the planned relocation of traditional villages on Rempang Island due to the Rempang Eco City Project.

The Escalation of the Demonstration

Initially, the demonstration on September 11th was peaceful. The Head of BP Batam and Mayor of Batam, Muhammad Rudi, attempted to engage with the crowd, offering to let resident representatives visit Jakarta to express their concerns. However, as the day progressed, tensions escalated.

Around noon, the peaceful demonstration took a violent turn. Protesters began throwing stones and bottles at the BP Batam office, resulting in damage to the building and injuries to several officers. In response, the police deployed water cannons and tear gas to control the situation.

In the end, 27 people were arrested and 16 police officers were sent to the hospital with serious injuries.

The Rempang Eco City Project

The root cause of the controversy lies in the Rempang Eco City Project, a development initiative aimed at transforming Rempang Island into an industrial, service, and tourism hub.

This project carries a hefty price tag, with an estimated investment of up to 381 trillion rupiah (approximately S$33.8 billion) by the year 2080.

While the economic potential of the project is undeniable, it comes at a steep cost. The proposed relocation of the island’s entire population, approximately 7,500 people, has sparked outrage among indigenous communities residing on Rempang Island.

These communities, including the Orang Laut and Orang Darat, have a deep-rooted history on the island, dating back at least to 1834.

The protesters believe that the project could proceed without displacing the indigenous communities, respecting their cultural heritage and historical ties to the island.

BF TOLD GF THAT HE CHEATS BECAUSE SHE WOULDN’T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT

0

I asked my boyfriend why he kept cheating on me. His answer completely broke me.

So me (30F) and my (EX) boyfriend (32M) were together for over 3 years. After 1 year of us being official, I discovered that he was cheating on me.

I was devastated, but I also believe in second chances. I desperately wanted to give our relationship another shot, so I forgave him. That moment kick-started the downward spiral of our relationship.

I would discover him cheating on a regular basis with multiple different people. Every time I would confront him, he was honest with me. Because he was upfront, I would always give him another chance. I believed that, because he was honest, what he was doing wasn’t that bad. After this catastrophe of a relationship dragged on for the next 2 years, I finally reached my breaking point!

2 days ago, I was in the bedroom and he was in the living room watching TV. I peaked at his phone that was charging on the nightstand. I saw that he had created a new dating profile and was texting other women. I felt so defeated!

This had happened so many times and I just couldn’t figure out why he was hurting me. I came out of the bedroom sobbing and confronted him for the millionth time.

He was completely unfazed and just sat there calmly listening to me. I blurted out, “Why are you doing this to me?? Don’t you love me?? I do so much for you! I cook, clean, sleep with you, support you..everything! What else can I possibly do? Just please tell me…why?!”

He looked me dead in the eye with zero emotion and said, “Because I know that you won’t do anything about it.”

I don’t know why, but what he said opened my eyes for the first time. He was absolutely right! I knew right then and there that I was letting him walk all over me. He didn’t need to come up with bullshit excuses, deny it, or even hide it from me!

So here I am, sitting alone, feeling like the biggest and weakest loser on the planet.

HYGIENE GRADE OF SHANGRI LA RESTAURANT DROPPED TO “C” AFTER 10 PEOPLE GOT FOOD POISONING

0

The hygiene grade of The Line Restaurant at the Shangri-La Hotel has been downgraded from “A” to “C’ following a food poisoning incident, and their new hygiene grade took effect last Friday (8 September); it will last for a period of 12 months before being reviewed again.

This comes after a food poisoning incident that took place last year, with 10 people developing gastroenteritis symptoms after eating at the restaurant on 26 December 2022, with 2 of the diners ending up in hospital.

The Ministry of Health (MOH) and the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) then conducted an investigation where they found no hygiene lapses during an inspection at the premises on 30 December 2022, but they took enforcement action against them for “selling unclean food”.

SFA’s statement

Downgrading of food shop licensed to Shangri-la Hotel Limited, located at Shangri-la Singapore (22 Orange Grove Road, Singapore 258350), due to food poisoning Incident.

Ten persons were reported to have developed gastroenteritis symptoms after consuming food prepared by The Line Restaurant located at Shangri-La Hotel (22 Orange Grove Road, Singapore 258350) on 26 December 2022. Two of them were hospitalised.

A joint investigation by the Ministry of Health and the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) was conducted following the incident. No hygiene lapses were identified during the inspection of the food shop on 30 December 2022. However, SFA will be taking enforcement action against the licensee for selling unclean food.

SFA has adjusted the food shop’s food hygiene grade from “A” to “C” with effect from 8 September 2023, to be reviewed in 12 months. The premises will also be kept under surveillance.

Food business operators are reminded to adhere to good food safety processes. Good hygiene practices such as the washing of hands before handling food can greatly reduce the incidence of gastroenteritis when adopted by all key stakeholders, including the industry and public.

TADA DRIVER DEMANDS FOR MORE MONEY FOR GOING 2 LOCATIONS, WANT 2X THE FARE

0

A foreign worker in Singapore booked a TADA ride to 2 locations with the fare amounting to $31, but the driver allegedly demanded twice of the fare and demanded another $30 because of the second location.

The Journey Begins

The incident took place on a Sunday evening, September 10th, when the passenger, along with two friends, had just finished a football game in somewhere in Jurong.

With the clock ticking past 10PM and the prospect of work looming the next day, the man decided to book a TADA ride to take them to two different stops—Orchard and Bedok. The fixed price displayed on the app for this two-destination trip was set at S$31.

A Sudden Demand

Trouble began when one of the friends disembarked at Orchard, and the driver unexpectedly demanded an additional S$30 to complete the journey to Bedok.

To the passengers’ astonishment, the driver argued that the fixed fare of S$31 was insufficient, claiming that the trip was “too far.”

Adding to the passengers’ confusion, the driver accused them of trying to “play him” and criticized the TADA app, deeming it “stupid.”

The situation escalated quickly when the driver abruptly canceled the trip or marked it as completed on the app without taking the passengers to Bedok, insisting on the extra S$30 for what he considered halfway through the journey.

Police Intervention

With no resolution in sight, the passenger refused to pay for only half of the trip, prompting the driver to call the police to mediate the dispute.

During the 15 to 20 minutes it took for the officers to arrive, the driver continued to berate both the passengers and the TADA app.

Upon their arrival, the police attempted to negotiate with the driver, suggesting that the passenger should only pay half the fare since he had reached just one of the two stops.

However, the driver adamantly refused, leading the officers to advise the passenger to pay the full fare first and then file a complaint with TADA.

An Unpleasant Experience

The man expressed his dissatisfaction with the driver’s service, emphasizing that he had never encountered such behavior from a ride-hailing driver before.

He recounted numerous instances when drivers had been courteous and friendly, going above and beyond to provide a positive experience for passengers.

In stark contrast, this particular TADA driver not only demanded extra money but also insulted the passengers by suggesting that they smelled bad after their football match. He even claimed that he would need to invest time and money in cleaning his car seats due to their odor.

COUPLE FEEL LIKE THEY FAILED AS PARENTS BECAUSE DAUGHTER OBESE

0

My husband and I feel like we failed as parents

We took our daughter ( 15F) to her doctor’s appointment and, while we expected the number on the scale to be a bit on the heavier side, we were not expecting her to be nearly 220 pounds.

This didn’t seem to shock our daughter at all.

How she got to this weight, we already know. I work late hours often, as does my husband and for years upon years, it was a case where dinner for her was something microwaveable, frozen, order pizza, or, wait until one of us was home for a quick minute and we’d rush through a fast food drive thru.

As we reflected on it, we realized we’d been sleepwalking essentially, through plenty of things that should’ve alarmed us, like how often we’ve had to let out her pants for school, or how even getting off of the couch has become laborious for her.

We are a bit shocked that after seeing that number, she isn’t more alarmed and seems fine continuing a sedentary lifestyle.

My husband and I are lost as to what to do next with her.

Netizens’ comments

Start exercising as a family. Walking outdoors, at the park. Dancing is a fun activity as well. Try new recipes together as a family that are healthy but flavorful. Make sure to have a weekend treat like pizza, ice cream, etc.

Most importantly, don’t make her feel bad. Motivate her, encourage her. But tread lightly. My mom destroyed my self esteem when I was younger by harping on me. And I wasn’t even heavy.
