WOMAN CUTS TIES WITH BROTHER FOR STEALING HER BABY’S NAME, BUT SHE’S NOT EVEN PREGNANT

0

So, my twin brother [M23] and his GF [F21] are going to have a baby, and they found out that it’s going to be a girl. So when they were asked about what they would name their baby, they said that they were planning on naming the baby “Amelia.”

Now I wasn’t happy about this, but I wanted to give them a chance to explain themselves, so I asked why they would give their baby that name. My brother’s GF said that she has a coworker with that name, and that she loved it because of how unique and quirky it was.

This really upsets me (and her reasoning for giving her that name made me even more angry), because I was hoping to name a future daughter of mine “Amelia” after a late childhood friend who passed away from cancer when we were 12. Her name is extremely important to me because Amelia and I made a promise that if she was going to pass away, I would name my daughter after her so that she can be remembered and would “officially” be part of my family.

It’s even worse in my opinion, because this is no secret and my brother knows about that promise, and I have talked about it multiple times beforehand.

So, I voiced my disagreement over the name and told them why I didn’t like for them to give their baby that name, and asked if they was any way that we can pick a different name for their baby. But they told me that I was being entitled about it and said that they weren’t going to change their minds about it because I don’t have the right to “claim” the name, especially since they were having a daughter first and they don’t know if I’ll ever have a daughter in the future anyways.

My brother did try to compromise by stating that he’ll be the one to uphold that promise for me, and that he’ll make sure that Amelia will be properly remembered. But I told him that won’t work, because I was the one that Amelia asked to make that promise, and it wasn’t going to be the same since he never made that same promise to her.

However, at the end, they insisted on naming their future daughter “Amelia” and I just walked away in anger over the whole thing.

I haven’t talked to them for about a week, and I have been intentionally avoiding them because I really don’t want to deal with them.

But friends and family are telling me that they are really disappointed in me that I’m acting so childish and to get over myself over a name, and to apologize to my brother and his GF over making a scene about it.

29-year-old Sim Liang Xiu, was originally charged with causing grievous hurt to a baby by forcefully dropping the infant into a cot.

Sim’s charge has since been upgraded to murder earlier today and is now accused of causing the death of the baby, Zabelle Peh Yu Xuan.

A court order that forbids her identification was lifted, although the woman’s relation to the baby was not revealed in court documents.

The baby suffered a fracture to her skull as a result of Sim’s actions.

The police prosecutor applied to lift the gag order on the identities of both Sim and the baby because the baby had died, which was granted by the court.

The prosecutor also requested for Sim to be remanded a further week, citing investigations and visitations of the crime scene.

Sim appeared in court via a video link from her remand and told the court that she didn’t understand what was going on, saying in Chinese “the police already said I’m guilty, what is there to investigate?”

She is set to return to court next week, after the judge replied that her offence was very serious and that the police need time to finish their investigations after gathering evidence.

M’SIA PROPOSES CLEARING CUSTOMS JUST ONCE @ JB-S’PORE CAUSEWAY TO EASE CONGESTION

0

According to The Star, Malaysia has issued a proposal to Singapore, for travellers to only clear the customs once at the Johor-Singapore Causeway.

Johor’s chairman for works, transportation and infrastructure committee and head of a multi-agency taskforce that is tasked with easing congestion at the Causeway and Second Link, Mohamad Fazli Mohamad Salleh, said that the proposal includes stationing Singapore’s immigration officers at Malaysia’s checkpoint to clear those entering Singapore, and placing Malaysia’s immigration officers at Singapore’s checkpoint to clear those entering Malaysia.

He added that it will be similar to the system that will be put in place when the Rapid Transit System begins operations in 2026, although it is still in the initial stages.

Johor is also looking at increasing the number of motorcycle lanes at the Causeway, with Fazli adding that they were seeking additional funds to increase it to 75, from 50.

They are also proposing for the lorry lanes to be used for passenger traffic during the weekends.

Malaysia’s Chief Minister Onn Hafiz Ghazi previously appealed to prime minister Anwar Ibrahim about the Causeway congestion, highlighting that an average of 150,000 Malaysians wake up at 4am to queue up at the Causeway in order to make it in time for their work in Singapore.

He appealed for sympathy for the Malaysian workers in Singapore, saying that “by the time they return to Malaysia after going through the jam, it is already 10pm.”

Some Malaysian netizens have been quoted by The Star as saying that the congestion appeared to be worse on the Singapore side because of the lack of manpower.

One netizen said that they can clear the Malaysia side of the customs within 30 minutes, but get stuck in Woodlands for almost 2 hours because of many counters being closed.

MAN LEFT JOB BECAUSE ‘UNAPPRECIATED’ BY BOSS, IMMEDIATELY GETS HEADHUNTED

0

I think it is safe to say that no one likes to be taken for granted. This was exactly the case for me when I left my job because my boss simply did not appreciate my contributions.

For the past 4 years, I had worked with my boss at a well-known multinational corporation. I was responsible for completing a variety of tasks, from customer service to handling projects. I was always one of the top performers and had always received positive feedback from my clients, colleagues and superiors.

However, in the last year, things started to change. My boss began to take my contributions for granted. He started to expect more from me and rarely gave recognition for my hard work. I felt I was being taken advantage of, and my enthusiasm for the job began to dwindle.

On top of that, I never had any increment over the years but only had an increased workload.

I decided to take a stand and told my boss that I was leaving the job. He was shocked and didn’t believe that I was serious. Once I handed in my resignation letter, he finally realized that I was serious.

He did not even try to keep me and allowed me to leave.

This left me feeling a little upset but I knew that I had to embrace whatever that will come my way even though the future was currently bleak.

Little did I know, this decision to leave my job immediately garnered the attention of various other companies. Within a few weeks, I had been headhunted by several other companies. It was a pleasant surprise that my contributions and skills were immediately recognized and appreciated by other organizations.

I accepted an offer from one of the companies and am now happily working in my new role. I am now surrounded by a team of supportive and encouraging colleagues who genuinely appreciate my contributions and value my ideas.

I am glad that I took the initiative and left my old job. It was a difficult decision at the time, but it was the right one in the end.

I am thankful to be in a new job where I am surrounded by people who recognize and appreciate my hard work.

TIN PEI LING SAYS SHE’LL BE “TRANSPARENT” IN NEW GRAB ROLE AFTER QUESTIONS OF CONFLICT OF INTERESTS

0

The People’s Action Party (PAP)’s Member of Parliament (MP) for Macpherson, Tin Pei Ling, was appointed as Grab’s director of public affairs and policy.

This drew concern from some members of the public, who questioned the potential conflict of interest with her role as an MP.

Tin addressed the concerns in a lengthy Facebook post, promising to be “transparent” and “above-board” in her dealings.

She also said that “there is a clear and mutual understanding that my role as a Parliamentarian is distinct from my role at Grab.”

Here is what she said

Hi everyone, some of you may know by now that I left Business China 通商中国 and joined Grab, Singapore as its Director of Public Affairs & Policy. This opportunity to return to the private sector will broaden my horizons, hone new skills and allow me to make a contribution in a different way. Grab is rooted in Singapore and has a strong social mission – “to drive Southeast Asia forward by creating economic empowerment for everyone”. I admire this. So when the opportunity came, I decided to take it up.

I have received several queries about whether there is a conflict of interest since I am still a Member of Parliament. Allow me to address this.

There is a clear and mutual understanding that my role as a Parliamentarian is distinct from my role at Grab. The company has established clear rules of engagement to ensure that any possible conflict of interest will be properly declared and avoided. Likewise, the PAP has a published set of Rules of Prudence, as well as mechanisms in place for declarations of interest and the avoidance of conflicting interests.

I am absolutely clear that when I am discharging my duties in my capacity as a Member of Parliament, my constituents and Singapore come first. When I am working on behalf of Grab, I will have to ensure that Grab’s interests are safeguarded.

As to which capacity I represent at any time: I will be transparent and above board.

I look forward to continue contributing to the development of Singapore’s digital economy, and also growing as an individual.

Finally, to my many friends and residents who have texted or emailed me with your well wishes, a big thank you!

68 Y.O S’PORE SCHOOL BUS DRIVER ALLEGEDLY MOLESTED PRESCHOOL TODDLERS

0

68-year-old Gary Alexander Tan, a father of three who worked as a school bus driver, was charged with molestation earlier today (3 February).

He is being accused of molesting a 4 to 6-year-old girl in church sometime between 1993 and 1995, among other alleged victims.

Tan admitted in earlier court proceedings to molesting other children, including an autistic boy and another young girl, with the prosecution calling Tan a “pedophilic school bus driver”.

He will be sentenced on 1 March, after pleading guilty back in December to 6 charges, including multiple counts of molestation.

Molestation spree

Sometime in 2006, Tan was spending the night at a friend’s home when he molested a girl between 3 and 5 years old while his friend was asleep.

He was later hired by a Kindergarten to ferry children with special needs, driving a 7-seater car in 2009 before his contract ended in 2012.

Despite his contract ending, some of the parents continued to hire him to fetch their children to and from school, including an autistic boy between 4 to 6 years old.

Tan molested the boy from 2013 to 2014.

Among Tan’s other victims include a young girl, whose age was not mentioned in court, of whom he took explicit photos – he had befriended the girl’s helper in order to get to the victim.

He took an upskirt photo of the girl after telling her maid that he would look after the girl.

Tan also asked two other helpers that he had befriended to send him explicit photos of young girls, one of whom declined; but the other maid agreed to send him after being told that he would be aroused by it.

Tan instigated that maid to send his explicit photos of her employer’s young daughter on at least 22 occasions, from 5 May to 1 November 2016.

The maid also sent tan 51 photos of another young girl, as well as 3 photos of her employer’s young son not wearing anything.

Tan drove a 9-seater van after he became a school bus driver in 2017, where he was tasked with ferrying children who had been ill-treated.

He was aware that the children were under care arrangements and signed a document to safeguard the sensitive information related to them.

One of the children was an 8-year-old girl who was physically ill-treated and was sent to live with her maternal grandparents and aunt under her care arrangements.

Tan molested her on 12 January 2019 after dropping off the other kids and filmed himself in the act.

He then molested her again on 16 January 2017 and filmed the acts, before showing the girl photos of himself in his underwear about 3 days later.

The victim told her aunt and grandparents about what happened later that month, and her mother was then alerted to it.

The police were then informed about the incident(s) on 26 January 2017 and Tan was arrested later that day, with the police seizing his phone and finding numerous upskirt videos of different victims.
