TEEN INVOLVED IN OCBC PHISHING SCAMS TO UNDERGO REFORMATIVE TRAINING

0

According to an article by The New Paper, a 19 year old teen, Brayden Cheng Ming Yan who was first placed on probation for his role in laundering money as part of the OCBC phishing scams was ordered to undergo at least a year of reformative training (RT).

He would be kept in a centre for his RT where there would be a strict regimen for him to follow.

Some of these include doing foot drills and also undergoing counselling.

Had brushes with the law previously

Cheng in January had pleaded his guilt, acknowledging his involvement in the money laundering activities.

He also acknowledged that he had committed an offence under the Organised Crime Act.

He had previous brushes with the law as well.

In 2021 August, he was placed under probation as he had committed offences like rioting but just three months later in 2021 November, he chose to dabble in crime again all the way till 2022 February where he was involved in money laundering as part of the OCBC phishing scams.

Their role in the scams

Cheng, together with his co-accused had worked together to source and provide bank accounts to unknown persons which were believed to be linked to overseas syndicates and also provided money laundering services to them.

These accounts which they sourced were then used to commit the crimes, receiving money from the scam victims and also distributing out the funds which were scammed.

Cheng was paid $1,400 by the syndicate in 2021 December and 2022 January.

In all, the whole group provided 16 bank accounts to the syndicates which were used to received almost $600,000 worth of funds from the victims.

Other people linked to the scams such as 32 year old Mark Teo Sin Yan, and Leong Jun Xian who was then 21 had already been dealt with while several others who were also involved such as 20 year old Kong Jia Quan and 20 year old Muhammad Khairuddin Eskandariah have their cases still pending.

To start his sentence on 16 Feb

Cheng is now out on a $30,000 bail and he would be expected to show up in court on 16 February to start serving his sentence.

MAN DID PATERNITY TEST WITH KID BECAUSE HE SUSPECT CHILD IS NOT HIS

0

My wife of 4 years gave birth to our first child two years ago. Both my wife and I are black eyed and light skinned. Our baby has a darker skin tone. Over the past year his eyes turned into dark brown.

I had my doubts. My friends and family had questions. I read too many horror stories online.

I asked my wife half jokingly one day if she was sure the kid was mine. She stared at me and said of course he is. I let it go for a while, but I still had a nagging doubt.

So right after Christmas I wanted a paternity test to put my doubts to rest. She agreed.

Weeks ago I came home to an empty house. Wife and son gone. On the bed she left the paternity results. And a petition for divorce.

Kid is 100% mine. Now I will only get to see him weekends and I lost the most amazing woman I have ever known.

Netizens comments

  • Why wouldn’t you, as the father, just take the kid yourself to get a paternity test and never worry your wife with it? So easy.
  • Maybe it is just the genes from one of your ancestors?
  • This probably wasn’t the first time his friends/family tried to cause problems, but it was damn sure the last time his wife stuck around when he let them.
  • If I’ve learned anything from this story it’s that I’ll never make my suspicions aware to my spouse.
  • RIP. Have you looked back at either side and see oh hey a grand parent had brown eyes or darker skin?

MAN WORKS DAILY GOING THROUGH MOTION, FIVE YEARS LATER STILL REMAIN STAGNANT

0

It all started five years ago, when I was still a fresh graduate looking for a job. I had no idea what I wanted to do, but I was willing to take on any role as long as it was a job.

And that’s how I ended up working at this company.

At first, I was excited and eager to learn. I was determined to make it in this job, and I was willing to put in the effort and hard work to get ahead.

But as the years went on, I started to realize that nothing was really changing. My salary remained the same, and I was stuck in the same position, year after year.

It was like I was stuck in a rut, and I felt like I was going to work every day just for the sake of it. I had no prospects of promotion or any other opportunities. I was just going through the motions, day after day, week after week.

I started to feel frustrated and unfulfilled. I felt like I was wasting my time and energy, and I started to resent my job. I tried to talk to my boss about my situation, but he just brushed me off, saying that there were no opportunities for me to move up in the company.

I realized that I had to make a change, and I started to look for other jobs. But the market was competitive, and no one was willing to give me a chance. I had no choice but to stay in my job and continue going through the same motions every day.

Five years later, I’m still in the same position with the same salary. Nothing has changed, and I still feel like I’m going to work every day just for the sake of it.

I feel like I’m stuck in a rut and I’m not sure how to get out. I feel like I’m just wasting my time and energy, and I don’t know what the future holds.

0

According to an article by CNA, a 30 year old man, Barrie Lin Pengli returned to court on 1 February to face his charges.

His charges are for allegedly mistreating five cats, throwing two cats down from a HDB block and also thumping on one of the cat’s neck with his foot causing it to lose his life.

Five charges were brought against him under the Animals and Birds Act as he had allegedly committed many different types of cruelty to five different cats between the period of April 2020 to December 2021 in the Ang Mo Kio area.

The alleged incidents

On 18 April 2020 at around 1.50am, Lin allegedly kept a cat inside a small waterproof bag, causing it to suffer for no reason.

This was allegedly done at Block 544, Ang Mo Kio Avenue 10.

On 21 April 2020 at around 3.30am, he was alleged to have flung a cat down from the 12th floor of a HDB block at Block 572, Ang Mo Kio Avenue 3.

The cat passed on.

On 21 April 2020 at around 4.30am, Lin allegedly struck again.

This time he kept another cat inside a small waterproof bag which provided little to no ventilation.

On 15 May 2020 at around 3.30am, Lin was alleged to have flung another cat down from the eighth floor of a HDB block at Block 645, Ang Mo Kio Avenue 6.

This time, he also thumped his foot on the cat’s neck which caused the cat’s demise.

On 27 December 2021 at around 5.17am, Lin allegedly picked up a cat and banged it to a wall two times at a HDB block at Block 645, Ang Mo Kio Avenue 6.

Possible Penalties

For his charges of animal cruelty under the Animals and Birds Act, he can face an imprisonment term of up to 18 months, receive a fine of up to $15,000 or both.

COUPLE DIVORCED BEFORE GETTING THEIR BTO FLAT, WOMAN GETS FULL SHARE OF FLAT

0

A woman in Singapore divorced her husband before they got the keys to their allocated BTO flat, and she was awarded the full share of the flat following a successful court appeal.

Channel NewsAsia reported that the couple had separated in January 2019 before their divorce was finalised in May 2021.

They had yet to receive the keys to their flat at the time, with the Family Justice Court ruling that the flat be returned to HDB and the couple getting refunds for the amounts that they paid for the unit, which means that neither the man nor the woman would be getting the flat.

The woman then appealed against the ruling and argued that the removal of the BTO flat from the matrimonial pool should be counted as a loss to the couple and that their children won’t have a home.

Her argument was rejected by the court because she was earning more than her husband – the nurse educator took home an average of $4,936 per month and had about $256,500 in her CPF as well as another $68,000 in other savings.

Her husband, on the other hand, earned about $4,708 per month and only had $345 in his bank account, with another $105,400 in his CPF.

In her second appeal against the ruling, the woman offered to pay her ex-husband $16,000 for his share in deposits and administrative fees in exchange for his relinquishing his interest in the flat, disproving the judge’s concern that she didn’t want to reimburse the husband.

The flat was also valued to be the same as its sale price at the time of the court case after accounting for the MOP (minimum occupancy period), and it was also not an asset eligible on the open market (yet), which means the woman wouldn’t profit from acquiring the home.

Additionally, her husband was also willing to surrender the unit to HDB.

The woman also cited her children’s welfare and said that they need a permanent home.

Justice Woo Bih Li said that despite the divorced couple having joint custody of their children, they are under the care and control of the woman, and giving her the flat would be in the best interest of the children.

She was ultimately given the full share of the flat.

MAN’S FRIEND LOANED $300 FROM HIM FOR ‘BILLS’, END UP BUY TOTO

0

I’ve known my friend for years, and I thought I could trust him. He had been going through a tough time financially and he approached me asking for a loan of $300.

He said he needed it to pay off some bills. I was hesitant at first, but I decided to trust him and loan him the money.

Little did I know, he had something else in mind for the money.

After I loaned him the money, I saw from a mutual friend’s Instagram a while later that he had used the money which I loaned him to buy Toto tickets. I was beyond angry. I had trusted him and he had taken advantage of me.

I thought about confronting him about it but then I realized it was too late. He had already spent the money, and there was no way I was going to get it back.

Had I known that he had loaned the money from me for buying Toto tickets, I would not have given a loan to him.

I always believe that if you do not have enough to even make your ends meets, you should not even gamble at all.

I was heartbroken. I had trusted my friend when he asked for a loan because I didn’t mind helping a friend out if they were really struggling with their bills and he had betrayed me.

He had taken advantage of my trust and I didn’t know what to do about it because what’s done had already been done.

I decided the best thing to do was to just move on with this incident and be more wary whenever he tries to take a loan from me again.

CUSTOMER CHARGED $25 AFTER RESTAURANT STAFF CUT B’DAY CAKE THAT THEY BROUGHT THEMSELVES

0

TikTok user @vivala_blondiiie, shared how she was charged $25 by a restaurant after the staff cut a birthday cake that she and her friends had brought themselves, according to Yahoo Singapore.

She posted a video showing the receipt from the restaurant, with the subtotal being $113, before zooming in on the charge of $25 for “1 cake cut”.

She captioned over her video: “When the server asks if we want the cake WE brought cut, thinking she’s doing something nice for us.. But it was 25 dollars.”

Response to the video by netizens have been largely mixed, with some expressing their shock at the $25 fee for just cutting a cake.

Other netizens said that it was a customary practice at restaurants, citing how the staff have to wash the plates and forks but accepted that it was wrong that the customer was not told of the fee.

Netizens’ comments

  • Normal for there to be a charge for outside food.
  • I would have got the manager bc the server should have told you that you had to pay for it
  • Definitely a thing. You aren’t buying their desserts and it’s a PITA to cut/serve. Would you bring your own entrees to the restaurant?
    • (OP) Never asked them to serve me the cake I brought. Just like they never told me it was a charge. What kind of question is that
  • Totally a thing. Because then they bring plates and forks, which they then have to wash. But it was wrong that you weren’t told of a fee.
  • I don’t mind a small fee but 25 is crazy
  • No different than a corking fee. It a restaurant policy to help them pay their bills when people bring food in
  • ive never seen this omg. i served at an italian restaurant for a year and we’d cut cakes and provide plates just to be nice
@vivala_blondiiie I didn’t know this was a thing?!? 😳@BrazyBecca @Michelle Greene @Vanessa Valenbaer #ReadySetLift ♬ I try not to km.. – h

MAN ACT ATAS AND BUYS SWISS CHOCOLATE, BUT EAT IT LIKE ‘BARBARIAN’

0

I recently had the pleasure of visiting a very prestigious high-end chocolatier in Switzerland. It was one of those places that you could tell from the second you walked in that it was a place of luxury and opulence.

From the fancy decor to the expensive packaging, it was clear that this was a place where only the best Swiss chocolate was made.

But it was the Swiss chocolate itself that caught my eye. I had never seen such a wide array of options, from dark and milk varieties to the more exotic flavors like chili and truffle. I was in awe and knew immediately that I had to buy some of this exquisite Swiss chocolate.

But I didn’t want to look like some kind of impostor, so I went with the Swiss chocolates that were the most expensive and most luxurious, thinking that would make me look like I belonged in this place. I paid for my purchases, without looking at the prices, and made my way out of the shop, feeling like royalty.

But it all went downhill when I got out of the shop and started to eat my Swiss chocolate. It was so delicious that I couldn’t help but gobble it down like a barbarian. I was so excited that I forgot all about the high-end image I was trying to portray and just let myself get lost in the pleasure of the Swiss chocolate.

To make matters worse, I quickly realized that the Swiss chocolate I had bought was actually quite expensive and had only eaten about half of it.

I was embarrassed and a little ashamed of myself, but I couldn’t deny that it had still been an amazing experience.

It made me think about how much people try to act high class in certain situations, but how it’s often just a facade.

People can be complex and have different sides to their personalities, and there are times when it’s nice to be able to let go and just enjoy something for what it is.

I’m glad I was able to have this experience, as it was a valuable lesson in not taking myself too seriously. I’m still going to splurge on the expensive Swiss chocolates, but I’m going to be more mindful of how I consume them.
