PRC WOMAN TOLD HUSBAND NO NEED DOWRY AND ALSO HELP CLEAR HIS S$35K DEBTS

0

A story that touch the souls of many couples in China went viral after a woman not only paid off fiance’s debt and also refused a dowry of 300,000 yuan (SGD$58,000).

The woman, who was from Nanchang city in Jiangxi province and was identified as Zhou, met her fiancé, Hu, on a blind date and decided to get married at the end of this year after seeing each other for a month.

Zhou said in an interview with Star Video that she did not accept a betrothal gift or engagement ring from Hu and instead gave him financial support to pay off a debt he had incurred from a bad investment. “I gave him all my savings of 180,000 yuan to pay back a loan he owed,” Zhou said.

She also added that she believes in building a better future with her husband and not just by taking money.

While some netizens commented and said that she is naive.

But oh well, whatever floats your boat.

Dowry system

The dowry system in China has a long history, with its roots going back to the Shang Dynasty (1600-1046 BC). At that time, the dowry was intended to provide a bride with necessary household items and a financial cushion in case of her husband’s death. Over time, the purpose of the dowry has evolved, and it is now used as a way for a family to invest in their daughter’s future. It is seen as a way to ensure her financial security and to protect her from potential mistreatment.

In modern-day China, the dowry is generally given in the form of cash, jewelry, or other valuable items. It is usually paid by the bride’s family, although in some cases, the groom’s family may also contribute to the dowry. The amount of the dowry is usually predetermined by the bride’s family and typically reflects the family’s social and economic status.

JURONG GATEWAY DRINK STALL AUNTIE IS RUDE, OLD MEANS NO NEED TALK PROPERLY AH

BGAIN 130 Eating House at Jurong Gateway, I patronize this coffeeshop every other week, as their Western food is one of the best that I’ve had.

There’s this one staff from the drinks stall that has a bad attitude.

My sister and I went to purchase some buns from the stall, and generally in coffeeshops, the buns are self-service, customers grab the tongs and paper bag, and proceed to pick the buns of their choice. I did the same, but was chided by this staff. She was rude and condescending, saying ”给我啦,拿拿拿” in Mandarin.

She grabbed the tongs away from my hand and proceeded to take the buns. She spoke with a derogatory tone, and I can’t help but feel that it was uncalled for.

They always say that we have to respect seniors, yes I agree to that, but why does no one remember that younger people need respect too?

Edit: I feel like I need to add this in, and I have grandmothers too, one of them works as a cleaner at a hawker centre, so I symphatize with seniors working in such occupations. In fact, there’s an aunty working at the drinks stall at another coffeeshop at Jurong West that I’ve visited a couple of times, and I feel bad for her because she has a slouching posture when walking and my own grandmother does too, so it’s seniors like these that truly deserve my respect, and not those that shout at people just because they look like easy targets.

RESTAURANT IN MSIA ‘WRECKED’ BY FOOTBALL FANS AFTER WORLD CUP FINAL

0

A post was recently uploaded onto Facebook by Shihan Salim, a owner of a restaurant known as Restoran Jamal Salim in the East Malaysian region of Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.

In his Facebook post which was written in Bahasa, he says that his restaurant was wrecked by unruly football fans who instead of coming to watch football seemed like they came to wreck his restaurant instead.

Destroyed many fixtures and fittings

Things that were destroyed by these bunch of unruly fans includes fixtures and fittings such as walls, tables and even plastic chairs.

This led to the owner complaining that they specially provided their facilities for fans to come and watch football but these bunch of unruly fans had to do this to them.

On top of destroying the fixtures and fittings, the unruly fans were also seen not bothering about the presences of other customers as they were jumping on tables, spewing vulgarities and clanging plates.

As a result of the mess caused by this unruly group of customers, his staff had to stay till 5:30am just to clean up after them or they would not be able to open for business in the morning.

Translation of his post

Here is a rough translation of his post to English:

‘Did you come to watch football or to destroy property? We provide the facilities to let fans cheer and watch football, but they are damaging the shop property. Later we will upload faces of those who did not come to give support but intentionally tarnish the football spirit itself.

If this is the way, we will reconsider if we want to broadcast football or not next time.’

EAST COAST NEIGHBOUR GROW PLANTS UNTIL LIKE FOREST, ROOTS CHOKES UP DRAINAGE

I need help please and I don’t know where to ask anymore as I have been to all the respective authorities but no use…

My entire house was flooded on the 30th nov, called plumber they found big creeping roots in main pipe but they told me they can’t clear it unless it is being chopped from the main source allegedly from 3rd floor underneath my unit who uses the balcony area as planter and grow a forest since then every raining day

which eventually every day must scooped manually the water from the balcony area to prevent it from coming to my house. I can’t sleep and I’m worried at any given time my cat and I will be electrocuted and not to say that there are so many mosquitoes flying as that balcony also create a breeding spot with so much stagnant waters.

I live in heritage east 429026 level 4 and the forest is at level 3 the unit underneath. Level 2 is also facing same issue but they took shortcut by creating a side output to let the water flow out from their balcony… I don’t know what to do anymore NEA will look into it within 3-5 working days,

my MA said sent notices already to this owner but she doesn’t care..my lawyer friend said it’s not the police jurisdiction since it’s considered personal dispute..

Here are what netizens think:

Seek advise from your lawyer friend. Would sending a legal letter to the management/MCST be a better move to get them to act.

And include a letter from your doctor citing depression and psychological trauma.

could try root killer a kind of chemical to spray on the root area, I tried pouring non diluted and sprayed diluted it show sign of yellowish n after it died. mine was grown in to the cement now its cleared.

Thinner , acid stuffs couldn’t help much as u have to really pour to the main growth area and hard to kill it.

Wow.. Look like the pipe maybe damaged by the plants as all roots chocking… Maybe should use those pipe inspection cameras to see where the roots and spray the herbicides let the plants died off unnoticeable

TADA DRIVER TOLD FEMALE PASSENGER TO REMOVE HER MASK, SO HE CAN SEE HER FACE

I booked a cab from my house to Balestier using Tada APP.

And during the journey, this driver started asking me how old am’i and I asked him why?

He said that I look young, so i told him I was 26. And soon after he started asking me if the house that I stay is HDB rental or Purchased and if I’m staying alone.

So I told him that it was rental and I stay with my kids. He then proceed to ask me to remove my mask and I told him NO. I told him that I don’t want to remove my mask and there’s no reason for me to remove my mask. He said that he just want to see my face without my mask on, he wants to know how exactly how I look like. I still refused and he carried on saying that now there’s no more Covid19 restrictions, and he has no covid, tell me don’t need to be afraid.

I told him I’m not afraid that if he has covid, but I’m just uncomfortable with it. He add on saying now outdoor u sure never wear mask de mah. I say, no la. I still got wear. He asked me further and say when you are eating, you wear mask? I say that’s different.

So he gave up and started another conversation again. He asked how’s the design of my house, how is the sound proof, where is my room, is my room near the main door of my house and is my neighbour’s unit near me? I just told him that my neighbour unit is extremely near to me and I have a strong relationship with my neighbour. He asked if he could go up my house, I straight up tell, NO. Are him are you crazy? He say why cannot? Just go up, see see and go. I told him NO. (I immediately messaged my cousin as I’m afraid and informed her what happened and she told me that she will meet me at the roundabout)

And then he kept quiet until we exit Balestier Road, he asked if i have a driving license? I said no then he told me if i have any female friends that has driving license? I told him No again, and he say oh now a lot of females driving PHV. And when I reached my destination, I placed the amount of $19 on the Center console.

My cousin and my aunt opened the door and confronted him asked him why did he tell me to remove my mask and even say that he wants to come up my house to have a look despite me saying no time after time? His explanation was that he didn’t see before HDB rental house, so he just wants to have a look and regarding about the mask, he just wants to have a look at me full face.

He passed us back the $19 which we did not intend to take back at all. And because the drop off point was a condo, in order not to obstruct other vehicles, and I was still afraid, we didn’t managed to video down.

I hope thru this platform, I’m able to get some advice from professional PHV drivers on what I should do next? I have tried calling TADA’s hotline but they are closed and I’ve already emailed them regarding about this too.

Lastly, I would like to create awareness to all female passengers regarding about this incident that happened to me.

GRAB HELP CENTER INDIRECTLY PUSHES FAULT TO PAX FOR LEAVING ITEM BEHIND IN CAR

0

Screenshots of a conversation between a Grab passenger and the Grab help center had recently emerged on Reddit’s singapore happenings thread.

From a cursory reading of the conversation, the Grab passenger had left some office equipment inside the trunk of the car and while the passenger had just alighted and was about to go and retrieve the office equipment, the Grab driver drove off, leaving her stranded there.

She then contacted Grab’s help center to seek help but instead received ‘rude’ comments from whoever was behind the other side of the conversation.

Claimed that every time she contacted help center, they treated her case like new

The Grab passenger mentioned in the conversation at 1:56 pm that she had called Grab’s help center for a few times and each time when she called, the operator treated it like it was the first time that she reported her case.

She also claimed that no follow up to her report was given and even after trying chat support, she was told that the driver could not find anything.

She then seemed to plead for help, saying that she is feeling a little frustrated because she cannot work without her equipment and now also has to cancel on the job.

Asked for an update about 5 minutes later and was rebuked by Grab

According to the screenshot, the Grab passenger then asked for an update on her case at around 2.02pm, but instead got a reply from them saying:

‘First of all, it’s whose fault that left own belonging in the car?’

That got the Grab passenger to explain the situation where she just alighted from the car and was about to go to the back trunk to retrieve her belongings but the driver just drove off.

Grab’s help center then proceeded to chide her for not being patient

According to the screenshot, the operator on Grab’s help center side then told the woman that as customer service, they have been trying to help her reach the driver for her lost belongings and they also said that they have asked the woman to stay on the chat and wait patiently but she was not being cooperative.

They then proceeded to throw the driver’s number to the woman and asked her to contact the driver herself, while at the same time recommending to the woman to reimburse the driver ($10) for coming back to her to return her items.

Woman then said she will make a Police report

The chat then ended with the woman saying that she is ‘amazed’ by Grab’s customer service and would make a Police report regarding their unacceptable standards of service.

Grab driver asked for $20 to return her items

In another screenshot which appears to be the Grab passenger’s Whatsapp conversation with the driver, the driver told the woman that the fee for returning her her items would be $20.

Update

In a later update posted, it was mentioned that Grab had reached out to the driver involved and he had acknowledge that there was negligence on his part.

The $20 which the Grab passenger paid to the driver was also reimbursed to her.

As for the customer service operator, he/she received a prior warning before and since this incident was not his/her first warning, he/she had been let go by Grab.

Grab also apologised for the bad customer service experience received by the woman.

GUY SAYS BIRKENSTOCK STORE ON LAZADA DELAYED HIS ORDER, REFUNDED HIM THEN WENT MIA

0

A Facebook user going by the alias of Guolong Lin recently posted on Complaint Singapore’s Facebook about his experience with the official Birkenstock store on the Lazada platform.

Apparently, he had thought he gotten a good deal on a pair of Birkenstock slippers during the 12/12 sale but said that Birkenstock ended up cancelling his order and refunding to him after delaying the shipment of his slippers and exceeding the deadline.

He further laments that he is disappointed as he had spent a lot of time and effort logging into Lazada to collect vouchers just for the sale but end up it is all wasted.

Here is what he said

‘I will like to complain on the bad experience with birkenstock lazada official store.

I bought the slippers on 12.12 sales and it was a great deal. However, it was not sent out on time and the customer service kept delaying to send out my slippers, and exceed the deadline and ended up refunding to us.

If birkenstock is not able fulfil the sales, they are not even qualified to be in part of lazada sales.

We are very unhappy on this and it is really disappointing as we have waited and pursued the birkenstock official store to send out the item and ask what they promised, however they just simply mentioned that is due to ninja van being overwhelmed and ignored me after the refunded process kicked in.

What is the purpose of purchasing via lazada with applied vouchers but the item was not sent out and they refused to fulfil the purchase.

My demand is to buy the slippers at the discounted rate with my vouchers which I logged in everyday to collect and yet it was came to waste.’

NETIZEN CLAIMS GRABFOOD RIDER VENT HIS ANGER ON HER FAMILY @ TAMP ONE

0

A Facebook user going by the alias of Syazz Hashim recently posted on her social media page about an incident which happened between a Grabfood Rider and her family at Tampines One.

Here is what she said

So yesterday, I brought 3 of my children out to Tampines 1 mall. I just changed my 21 mths baby diapers & we headed to level 5 lift area . I was pushing her on the stroller along with my 7 & 9 years old children. While waiting, a man in grab T shirt covered in a jacket came.

He was mumbling something perhaps rushing to send the food. He placed the food package on the dustbin. Once the lift arrived, he quickly dashed in. My eldest daughter pressed the lift for me to enter along with my boy.

We entered and I told my children to press level 2. She heard me wrongly and pressed 3. There was another elderly makcik who came in after us. Once it reached level 3, the man scolded my girl telling her not to press anyhow.

I told him it was a mistake, simply just close the lift back. He looked at us unhappily. We then reached level 2. My girl went out first again to press the lift from outside. I carefully made my way to exit as he was blocking the other side.

“Get out la faster”, he told us impatiently. I told him “my daughter is pressing for me, kindly wait”. He refused to press the lift door for us and chased us to get out faster.

I told him “this is my daughter & not yours so please shut up”. He raised his voice “no need to press anything la just get out! “ I couldn’t imagine If I were to bring my 9 mths baby what wld happen as there wld be 2 strollers.

Some people can be so unkind to small children including babies. I understand the need to rush but the lift is prioritized for people like us as we couldn’t take the escalator. Please manage your anger & stop venting it on women & small children.

PS: This photo was taken as he was already looking angrily when he came. Mumbled few things to himself then looked at us unhappily.

I sent this to my hubby as I was alone with 3 young kids. In any case of physical or verbal situation, I have something to prepare.

We women are not physically strong but Have to be strong mentally for the kids. Things really got ugly when he dashed in front of us into the lift and scolded us in the lift.

Please look into this matter Grab GrabFood
