About 2 months ago I got a temporary job as an assistant via an agency and while it’s a nice job and I like the people there.
I don’t think I’m a great match because there are long periods of just doing nothing every single day.
While I don’t like to be overworked and stressed, I also don’t like to be doing very little all day. We aren’t allowed to read when there are no customers, and the computers are monitored pretty strictly so I probably wouldn’t be able to do something productive that would improve my personal life such as doing a course or something.
Last week I got offered a job in a law firm, starting in 5 days.
I have told the agency about the job offer, but haven’t been able to tell the manager herself as she is off sick. I would feel bad for leaving them without much warning because my contract was supposed to end in mid-April of next year. Some family and friends have told me to just leave, while others have said I need to stay until the contract ends.
Will it look bad on me?
The job offer is about 4 times the amount of salary I am getting.
Deputy prime minister Lawrence Wong posted a snippet of his parliamentary speech, explaining why GST will be raised from next year onwards.
He said that no government likes to raise taxes, and that they had considered all options carefully, but eventually decided to go ahead with the GST move because of a huge funding gap that will only increase with time.
Here is what he said
No Government likes to raise taxes. We had considered all options carefully. But we eventually decided we had to proceed with the GST move because we are facing a huge funding gap which will only increase with time, as our population ages, and healthcare spending goes up.
Some claim that the government still has lots of “surpluses”. That is mistaken and false. What they are really saying is that the government should use more of the past reserves, and leave behind less resources for our children and grandchildren.
Surely that cannot be the responsible thing to do, especially at a time when the uncertainties in the word are becoming ever greater.
Furthermore, the unique way we have designed the GST system in Singapore ensures that the impact of the GST increase is delayed by at least 5 years, and that lower-income households will not be impacted.
All this reflects the ethos of the government – we do not go for politically expedient measures that may end up being unviable or unsustainable.
Instead we focus our efforts on designing effective policies, and on doing what’s right for Singapore and Singaporeans.
A 40-year-old woman in Taiwan was killed after being hit by two cars while crossing the road, succumbing to her injuries and dying at the hospital.
The incident happened on 6 October, in the Luzhu District of Taoyuan, Taiwan, at about 10.25pm, according to Yahoo News Taiwan.
The woman was seen crossing the road while using her phone, and her head was looking down at the time, according to footage captured by eyewitnesses.
She got hit by a white car and collapsed in the middle of the road, when another black car then drove at a high speed and ran her over again, presumably because he didn’t notice her.
Her body was dragged on the road for about 5 metres, and a trail of blood was seen left behind on the road.
A man on the opposite side of the road tried to help the woman after the first collision, but he was too late and couldn’t stop the second car from hitting her.
2 drivers aged 35 and 47 were arrested by the local police, according to 8World News, and are under investigation for manslaughter.
44-year-old Mahgandran Narahjah, was sentenced to one year and one week imprisonment after pleading guilty to charges that include 2 counts of assault, according to The Straits Times.
The incident happened on 9 June 2021, he had assaulted his 67-year-old mother over a faulty drawer, and she ended up being hospitalised for 20 days after the assault.
He had pushed his mother before using a broomstick to hit her, and after she got up, he then kicked her in the stomach, causing her to fall onto the ground again.
The elderly mother then got up again and the man’s girlfriend tried to break them apart by escorting the victim out of the unit.
But Mahgandran continued to follow the victim and hit his mother’s left arm with his shoe that was left at the corridor.
He later married his girlfriend in June 2022, and 2 months after their marriage, he assaulted his 38-year-old now-wife.
Facebook user Sweetz Lyn shared how she bought a bottle of “Issey Miyake L’eau D’issey” perfume from a seller on QOO10 at one-third the retail price.
She later realised that it was fake and when she tried to get in touch with the seller, she got ignored. QOO10’s customer service also purportedly told her that she needs “solid proof” for them to investigate.
Here is what she said
I have purchased a bottle of Issey Miyake L’eau D’issey from a seller from Qoo10 at 1/3 the retail price.
Seller claims it’s original but the fragrance is totally off and the bottle only has a sticker saying “Made in france” instead of it being engraved.
I’ve been using this for more than 10 years and still have another bottle (original) with me. The fake one smells like some cheap pasar malam mixture.
Tried to contact seller but they ignored me. Contact Qoo10 customer service but they say I need solid proof that the product is not authentic for them to investigate.
If the pictures/bottle itself and smell is not enough proof, what else can? Please be careful when buying from online platform.
