COLUGO WAS SAVED BY ACRES AFTER BEING FOUND STRUGGLING AT A BUS INTERCHANGE

0

A Malayan (M) colugo was found struggling on the floor at a bus interchange. We suspect she might have hitched a ride on a bus to the interchange as there were no forested areas nearby!

Fortunately, she was unharmed! However, she had very blunt nails, aftermath of all the struggling on the floor. Our veterinary team had to sharpen her nails to allow her to properly climb trees again.

Malayan colugos are shy, nocturnal (NIGHT) creatures who are strictly arboreal (spend their time in the treetops of tropical rainforests). They are also known as Sunda ‘flying’ lemurs due to their ability to glide.

What is a colugo?

They look like squirrels but they have wings that allow them to glide from tree to tree and it’s active only at night.

FORMER GANG MEMBER MADE TEENAGE BOYS PERFORM OBSCENE ACT ON HIM AT PLAYGROUND

0

50-year-old Mustapah Abdullah, was found guilty of making underaged boys perform an obscene act on him at a playground slide.

He had claimed trial to his charges and represented himself and was found guilty on 3 charges. The identities of the victims, aged 16 to 17 at the time, cannot be revealed due to a gag order.

The victims lived in the same neighbourhood as Mustapah and they got to know each other in 2017, and they were also aware of his past involvement with gangs.

The victims started avoiding him in 2018 after a rumour spread that he made one of their friends (identified as W2 in court documents) perform an explicit act on him.

W2 was allegedly assaulted by W2 twice in 2018 when he was 16 years old.

Mustapah also allegedly assaulted another victim (identified as W1 in court documents), on 5 occasions in 2017 when the boy was only 15.

Mustapa was angry with the rumour and arranged a meeting with the teenage boys on 17 October 2018 at night, in their neighbourhood.

He then attacked the victims, pulling, slapping and attempting to scratch one of the victim’s eye out, before kicking another victim on his back.

Mustapah then made each victim meet him alone at a playground slide one by one, where he then asked each of them to perform an explicit act on him at the top of the slide, to which they complied.

He is set to return to court in September for his sentencing.

GRAB HITCH DRIVERS SAYS WHY THEY QUIT DOING IT, ALWAYS KENA GHOSTED

Grab Hitch is a way for drivers to earn an extra side income from Grab without driving it as a full-time job.

However, some Grab hitch drivers described it as a chore as many passengers often fail to turn up and went MIA.

A netizen posted a screenshot of his conversation between him and a Grab hitch passenger on how was ghosted after waiting for the passenger.

“she did respond. She said confirm. So I told her my expected arrival timing. Just didn’t capture that part in the screenshot…”

Grab Hitch Drivers said:

  • Don’t do hitch. Loads of self centre cheapo
  • Yes, i was compensated $4 even though I didn’t hope to get it after kena aeroplane by a rider. I think Grab has done a great job to compensate driver for their wasted effort.
  • I feel you. I waited more than 30 mins becos first 2 drivers cancelled after I waited them for like 10mins.
  • Quit hitch and then try Ryde. I had aeroplane reduction from 20% to 0%
  • I did a grab hitch years ago, the guy ghosted me totally, both of us refused to cancel each other and the pickup was there for a few days before it somehow disappeared, that was the last time I did it.
  • Sure, even confirmation doesn’t give you 100% guarantee.. Nonetheless, it’s part n parcel of GH.. Aside from the ‘no show’, feedback to CS; if they do this frequently, they’ll be penalized..

NETIZENS FIND IT RIDICULOUS THAT 5-CENT COINS ARE NOT ACCEPTED AT SOME COFFEE SHOPS

Like many people that do not like using coins, some retail shops also don’t like it.

The 5-cent coin is often the most “hated” coin one can see in their purse or wallet. However, as much we want to get rid of it many shops put up signage and refused.

A netizen was shocked after seeing a coffee shop stall that refuses 5-cent coins. The shop even put up a notice stating that they do not accept 5 cent coins.

Here is what the netizen said:

I paid $1.10 for coffee which included two 5 cents, but the coffee shop person said that they do not take 5 cent coin anymore. I heard about this practice, but this is my first time encountering it. Told the seller that some other retailer gave me the coins. Apparently if this is true, why do MAS still allow it’s circulation or can we just hand over our 5 cents to a bank to be exchange for legal tender coins or notes? In addition, have they stopped producing 5 cents? Seems odd that the practice of accepting 5 cent is inconsistent among retailers. Just added a pic of their ref to the Act (statute)

Here are what netizens think:

  • I went to 711. The girl said 5 cents coins can only accept up to 20 cents. Said this is company policy. Don’t know got smoke me or not?
  • the fact that 5 cents is circulating and there had been no announcement from the MAS, it’s still legal tender. I believe this is a matter of preference on the part of the retailer
  • This trend started when 1 cents coin are not legal tender so some smart retailer decided they don’t want to take the risk on 5 cents too
  • My husband a grab driver kena scolding by foreign indian cos he didnt have change of 5 cents
  • happened to me at Sim Lim SQ Broadway food court. I gave them $50, said no more other change. she accepted the two 5cent coins

OCBC CUSTOMER ALLEGEDLY TOLD NOT TO MAKE POLICE REPORT AFTER CREDIT CARD MISUSED

A man posted on Facebook stating that his credit card has been misused and he reported it to OCBC bank immediately.

However, after reporting the incident to customer service he was allegedly told not to make a Police report.

Translated Text:

Just received an ocbc message today, one look and I know its not right. When I found out (my credit card had been swiped with EUR800+), I immediately called the ocbc hotline and told them that my card had been stolen.

Halfway through the call with customer service, another transaction was entered saying that another SGD600+ was swiped. A total of two transactions. OMG

I fainted!!!

Customer service said: We will now block your credit card. I will send you a new credit card, the customer service says you don’t have to pay it back first. The transaction will be review for 7 days before they can resolve it. You don’t have to call the police.

Have anyone encountered the same problem?

MAID BORROWED MONEY FROM LOAN SHARK, WHO SENT FAMILY 17 CASH-ON-DELIVERY FOOD ORDERS

0

Cash-on-delivery food delivery orders coming to our home?

The orders started coming to our domestic helper yesterday, and some orders even had her phone number. They had her full name too. 11 came yesterday. 6 have come today so far. Now in my dad’s name too. The numbers that are placing the orders are international numbers.

We’ve tried calling the police but they say they aren’t able to do anything. We’ve just been telling the delivery riders to contact their despatch, and their despatch is telling them to contact higher management.

We didn’t borrow from loan sharks or anything. My helper did last year but my dad helped to pay it off in full. Has anyone else been experiencing this? Any ideas on what can be done?

Netizens’ comments

  • The only logical explanation is that your helper has provided her personal details to a money lender.
    • (OP) we already settled her debt with them though. so they’re just harassing old “customers” I guess?
      • How sure are you that your helper hasn’t done it again? From personal experience, I can tell you that those who have previously resorted to borrowing from loansharks can and will try it again if they are that desperate for cash.
  • Quite obvious that u should be asking her
    • (OP) We’ve already asked her. She didn’t borrow any money this time around.
      • I wouldn’t trust her fully about it
  • I doubt legal money lenders would take to harassment as a way to settle unpaid debt because it jeopardises their business and there are proper, legal ways to go about doing that.
Have you ever considered that maybe your helper isn’t being 100% transparent with you and at some point in time sought the help of loan sharks without your knowledge for debt(s) that you might not know about?
    • she did use loan sharks once last year I think, but the debt’s been paid off and we weren’t bothered by them anymore. i’m wondering if they’re just harassing old “customers”.

GIRL “FORCED” BY MUM TO BUY INSURANCE FROM SISTER WHO IS AN INSURANCE AGENT

0

I am a 24F and my sibling is a financial adviser. We are not at all close and the only reason why I bought a life insurance with her was under the “advice” of our single mother.

I only started working this year and I can’t help wondering – is there value in having a life insurance?

I understand it as a pay out upon death (or disability?) and truly the beneficiaries are the family members – but what if I am working towards building my own wealth and not relying on my future kids / family to take care of me?

Won’t the life insurance be meaningless in my situation? Any thoughts?

Netizens’ comments

  1. The term insurance that pays out on your death is more for the ones you’re leaving behind. If you die before retirement age, that could be a financial pressure on your dependants (e.g. if you have children, your spouse would have to support the children without your salary after your death, so the insurance payout would be to help them), and for disability, it’s basically in case anything happens to you before you’re able to earn enough money to retire. It’s a precaution because we never know what may happen to us.
  2. As a financial advisor, I also advise against buying whole life insurance… insurance is not meant for profit, it’s meant to replace lost potential income.
I would recommend you to just get term insurance which gives a lot higher coverage with lower premiums. Oh yes don’t forget hospital policy, this most important.

HUSBAND SMACKS WIFE IN THE FACE BECAUSE SHE INTERRUPTED HIS VIDEO GAME

0

My husband hit me for interrupting his video game

My husband is usually gone working, at the gym, or out with his friends. When he comes home, he goes straight to playing video games.

I understand he wants to relax. I bring him dinner, drinks, whatever he asks me for. In the morning I bring him coffee and breakfast. I take care of his laundry and everything. He provides a good lifestyle for me and our child and I like doing nice things for him. But I feel neglected by him. I feel like there’s a hole inside of me. All I want is a little emotional connection and affection.

We rarely spend any time together. He doesn’t talk to me about anything. He’s not mean but he is distant and cold. He is very indifferent toward our son and barely looks at him.

He doesn’t kiss me or comfort me unless he wants to sleep with me. Is this normal? I let him even when I don’t feel like it because I savor what closeness I can get from him. It sounds so pathetic but I almost cry of happiness and I wish it would last forever. When he’s finished, he’s back to disregarding me.

He buys me gifts which tells me he is thinking of me and I do appreciate them. But if I hug him he just puts a stiff arm around me or gives me a quick peck on the cheek.

I’ve wanted to tell him how I feel for a while but I couldn’t find the right words and time. I didn’t want him to think I didn’t love him.

He was playing a game last night. I brought him a drink he didn’t ask for as an excuse to see him. He said that I look sad and asked what was wrong. It felt good that he noticed for once so my feelings slipped out.

He said “I’m focusing right now, I’ll talk to you later.”

I rolled my eyes and muttered “sure you will”. He put his controller down, came over to me and hit me with the back of his hand. It was so forceful I stumbled and he steadied me.

He said “there’s your attention, don’t interrupt me again”.

This morning he told me that he shouldn’t have hit me so hard. Before he left he told me “I’ll take you somewhere nice soon, I want to see you smile”. He said he loves me. He usually doesn’t say more than “I’ll see you later”.

I feel surreal. My face still aches. I had to get this bruise for him to show me the little softness I want so badly?

LANDLORD RENTED OUT ROOM WITHOUT CONTRACT, WANTS TO SUE TENANT FOR VANDALISM

0

I am a Singaporean HDB owner. I recently rented out one of my rooms to a tenant, I have to admit that it was a short-term rental for about four months, and there was no paper contract signed between us.

But I have his facial image from the security camera I placed in my living room.

Recently, an argument broke out between us and after he moved out, I found out that he vandalized his room with paints and water stains, and holes on my walls.

I want to ask if there is anything I can do. Like, will the police arrest him given that I only have his facial image?

How much can I get from him to compensate for his damage to my property?

Netizens’ comments

  1. No black and white contract, illegal short-term rental in HDB. (Pretty sure never register tenant details with HDB haha).
I think you should just cut your losses and move on.
Ps. You do realize that HDB can literally repossess your flat back if you do something stupid like that right?
The so-called ex-tenant can report you and you get screwed instead.
  2. Did you inform HDB that you rented out your room? If you didn’t, what you did is illegal so you’d just have to take the loss. Worse is that there was no contract signed.
