Khoo Tea Wah, 85-years-old, pleaded guilty on 14 June to one count of causing grievous hurt by a negligent act, and was fined $5,000 and banned from driving for a year.
He admitted to failing to give way to a 29-year-old motorcyclist and colliding into him, resulting in the victim suffering a fractured leg and dislocated toe.
Khoo appeared in court with a walking stick.
What happened?
The incident happened on 25 September 2019, at about 11.30am.
Khoo was driving out of the carpark gantry, with his wife in the front passenger seat, and he stopped his car to check for oncoming vehicles.
He wanted to make a turn into Bedok South Road towards Bedok South Avenue 1, when he saw the victim’s motorcycle approaching in lane 1.
However, Khoo proceeded to make the turn despite the victim having the right of way.
He drove across the 3rd and 2nd lane of the road and was about to enter the victim’s lane when his wife shouted: “motorbike, motorbike!”
However, Khoo continued driving forward and stopped only after his wife said “motorbike” for the third time.
But it was too late as he had already crashed into the victim, who was flung about 4 metres off his motorcycle and landed on his back.
The victim suffered a fractured femur, a dislocated toe and a knee wound – he was warded for 25 days and given more than a year’s hospitalisation leave, having to undergo multiple surgeries for his wrist and thigh.
The victim is unable to carry heavy items with his dominant hand, and still have follow-up appointments for his wrist injury.
A food delivery rider posted on Facebook, sharing his experience with an unsavoury customer named Nisa Zee.
The customer allegedly lied to him that her order was paid for via credit card, even though it was a cash-on-delivery purchase.
The rider ended up having to pay more than $26 himself for the food.
This was apparently not the first time that the woman pulled off the scam, with at least 2 more screenshots detailing her orders from i.Tea and Eighteen Chefs.
How she pulled off the scam
She would make an order under cash-on-delivery, where the rider is required to collect cash payment from the customer upon delivery.
The woman then left an instruction to the rider to leave the food at the gate, so that he would think that there is no one home to receive it.
She would then inform the rider that there is a problem with the app, and that the food has already been paid for via credit card.

A 56-year-old man pleaded guilty to 4 counts of insulting a woman’s modesty and 2 counts of using criminal force.
He was sentenced to 11 weeks jail on 15 June for exposing himself repeatedly and stroking his genitals in front of his female tenant in 2018.
He was also fined $2,000 but will serve an additional 2 weeks in prison because he cannot pay the fine.
The man cannot be named due to gag orders to protect the identity of the victim.
He reportedly told the judge that he accidentally exposed himself to the woman because the wind had blown the toiler door open while he was using it.
He also claimed that he slipped on washing powder on the floor after showering, and hit himself after something caught on his towel, leading him to stroke himself because he was in pain.
What happened?
In May 2018, the man (who was the victim’s landlord) suddenly held her hand and asked her to eat, to which she said no.
Later that same month, he grabbed her hand when she walked past the sofa where he was sitting; the victim then flung his hand away and told him not to get touchy.
Some time around June to July 2018, the victim was walking out of the kitchen when she saw him standing in the toilet naked and stroking himself; the two made eye contact, after which she asked him what he was doing.
That same week, the victim was washing something in the kitchen when she turned around and saw the man completely naked.
She told him off but the man only smiled and said that he wanted to use the toilet to take a shower.
After 2 more incidents of indecent exposure, the victim confided in her friends, who eventually reported the incidents to the police on 23 December 2018.
The victim said that she was worried it would affect her work permit so she didn’t report the matter.
One week after reporting the incidents to the police, the man knocked on her room door and asked to talk to her, to which she then called the police and avoided meeting him.
The two were alone at home at the time.
The victim also recorded a conversation with the man; she asked him why he appeared in the nude behind her, the man said:
“You have not agreed to me for so long… When you don’t give the fish to the cat, what do you think it will feel? I am a man, you think I am made of wood, is it?“
