S’PORE MOVING TO PHASE 3: MAX OF 5 PEOPLE FOR SOCIAL GATHERINGS FROM 14 JUNE

With the Covid-19 cases falling, Singapore will be moving forward to Phase 3 (Heightened Alert).

From 14 June onwards, the maximum allowed group size for social gatherings will be increased to 5 people.

Also, 2 visitors per household will be allowed.

Singapore is moving into Phase 3 in 2 steps, with the second step being dining-in at F&B establishments, which can only resume on 21 June if the Covid-19 situation remains under control in the weeks to come.

The Ministry of Health said in a media release:

“F&B establishments are reminded to strictly observe at least 1-metre safe distancing between groups of diners (of no more than five persons) so as to mitigate the risk of transmission between unmasked persons.”

“We will be significantly stepping up enforcement and will take firmer enforcement action for any breaches. Patrons are reminded to keep their masks on at all times, except when eating or drinking.”

Co-chair of the Multi-Ministry Taskforce, Gan Kim Yong, elaborated on why dining-in will only be allowed later, saying that it is considered a high-risk activity because masks are off.

He said that the government wanted to make sure that the situation is stable before allowing dining-in to resume.

Also, wedding receptions will be allowed to resume as well, from 21 June onwards.

Likewise, gyms and fitness studios may also resume indoor sports activities (with masks off) from 21 June onwards, with a safe-distance of 2m between individuals; and 3m between groups.

Limits on event sizes will be likewise increased, with live performances and spectator sports events allowed to resume – pre-event testing will be required for participants with up to 250 attendees; but it won’t be required for events with less than 50 people.

MOH said that pre-event testing is essential to ensure that events can proceed safely for attendees.

FOODPANDA TO TRIAL FOOD DELIVERY ROBOTS – THE FUTURE IS HERE

A video was shared online showing a Foodpanda robot going about its delivery rounds, much to the bewilderment of netizen, who feared for the future of delivery riders.

However, as it turns out, the robot is part of a trial that was rolled out across separate locations in Singapore.

Foodpanda announced earlier today that they have partnered with 3 autonomous robot startups, with the goal of advancing the progress of driverless deliveries locally.

The 3 startups include Whizz Mobility, OTSAW and Neolix.

The trials commenced in the middle of last month (May), with customers within the different trial areas getting (a chance of) their orders delivered by the pink robot.

The aim is to provide support to riders by completing last-mile deliveries, especially so in difficult locations, hoping to ease strains on the riders during adverse weather conditions or peak hours.

CONDO RESIDENT VS SECURITY GUARD: “I’M NOT WRONG! NVM LAH CALL POLICE COME…”

An argument ensued at Silversea Condominium between a resident and a couple of security guards.

It is unclear what happened that caused the argument.

So the bespectacled, bald man is believed to be the supervisor of the security guard; and the man filming is believed to be a resident at the condo.

We have transcribed the argument that happened in Hokkien as best as we can (we ang moh pai one), although we still have no idea what is going on because the OP didn’t provide context.

Resident (R): “No no no no, you never listen, you don’t talk.”

Supervisor (S): “What you say about me?”

R: “No, you need to listen to what I have to say.”

S: “I need to listen to my men leh.”

R: “Correct, but you need to listen to what I say first.”

R: *something in Hokkien I don’t understand*

S: “Hello, I must listen to one person at a time first you know or not?”

R: “Nevermind, you call police come lah.”

S: “I listen to his story right-

R: “No, you call police come, you call police come.

An uncle was seen without a shirt, holding on to 2 knives and walking around a neighbourhood.

The public was understandably alarmed and the police were then called in.

The incident happened on 7 June at around 8am, at Block 309 Hougang Avenue 5.

Some residents saw the shirtless uncle walking around with the knives and were worried that he was going to hurt others with it.

More than 10 police officers arrived at the scene, including a member of the emergency response force.

He was seen holding the knives and walking around, before sitting down on a nearby bench.

When the police approached him, he did not struggle or resist, he just stood up agitatedly during the conversation.

The police confirmed that a 58-year-old man was arrested on charges of possession of an offensive weapon.

Fortunately no one was hurt in the incident and investigations are currently ongoing.

S.KOREA HOPING TO SPEED UP TALKS WITH S’PORE TO START TRAVEL BUBBLE

The South Korean Transport Ministry said yesterday (9 June) that the country is hoping to expedite travel bubble talks with Singapore and Taiwan to allow quarantine free travel for fully vaccinated people.

They are hoping for it to start as early as July.

They said that they are pushing to allow people who have taken 2 doses of the vaccine to go on group tours to countries with strong virus control measures in place, as well as being successful (relatively) at containing the pandemic.

The South Korean Transport Ministry added that talks are already underway with Singapore and Taiwan to sign a travel bubble agreement, and they are planning to reach out to other places such as Thailand and Guam as well, to discuss the possibility of reopening air travel.

An official said that the prospect of signing a travel bubble deal with Singapore is higher as they (we) have shown a lot of enthusiasm for such an agreement.

Singapore had previously planned to launch its first air travel bubble with Hong Kong in November last year, but plans were scuppered and postpones twice due to Covid-19 cases increasing.
