SOH RUI YONG APOLOGISES TO SINGAPORE NATIONAL OLYMPIC COUNCIL

0

Singapore’s Marathoner, Soh Rui Yong, has recently posted on his Facebook page to send an apology to the Singapore National Olympic Council (SNOC).

In his apology, he said that he had done some reflection before deciding to apologise and said that the apology was done so that both himself and SNOC can move on to resolve their ‘differences’ for the greater future of sports in Singapore.

He also said that his apology was not to ‘beg’ for a place in the 2022 South East Asia (SEA) Games because he has already achieved his dreams of representing Singapore in the Games.

He further claims that even though 330 athletes except him were chosen to represent the Republic in the SEA Games, media channels have however mentioned his name more than others.

Here is what he wrote

“|Apology to the Singapore National Olympic Council|

After some self reflecting, I have decided to apologise to SNOC so we can resolve our differences and move forward in the best interests of Singapore sports.

I fully recognise that athletes representing Singapore should do our best to serve as a role model to our youth. In my view, that includes standing up for what is right, no matter the cost. However, I acknowledge that I could have handled certain disputes in the past differently. I could have been more respectful and sensitive in my approach. For that I apologise and will do better.

Like many others, I am not a perfect person and will never be. But I recognise that by virtue of being a top Singapore athlete, I have the responsibility to serve as a role model to the rest of my country. I will do my best to live up to that duty.

I write this not to beg for a place on the SEA Games team. I’ve already achieved my dream of winning the SEA Games Marathon while representing Singapore – not once, but twice. There’s nothing more I wish to prove. But I’m apologising here purely because I recognise I’ve not handled certain disputes well in the past, and I will endeavour to do better and grow into a better person in the future.

330 Singapore athletes have been selected for the SEA Games, yet the media headlines, podcasts and national debates have been dominated by my name over the past few days. Let us move on to celebrate the athletes chosen instead – I’m sure we can find many inspirational and newsworthy stories among them.

The beautiful thing about sports is that it unites us and should not be a divide instead. I hope we can be united as one as Team Singapore fights to chase the dreams we have all worked so hard for.

Thanks for reading. Let’s go #OneTeamSG! 🇸🇬”

INJURED WILD BOAR ON KJE CARRIED TO SAFETY BY MAN

A video has emerged on social media regarding an injured Wild Boar spotted in the middle of the busy Kranji Expressway (KJE).

Many vehicles were seen moving pass the injured animal, with some slowing down to avoid when they spotted the injured animal.

Kind hearted soul to the rescue

However, kudos goes to a man who was spotted attending to the animal and eventually getting it to safety.

The man first approached the wild boar and was seen bending over the wild boar, seemingly to assess its condition and see what was going on.

After a few moments, the man gave it some light taps, to try to communicate to the wild boar that it is dangerous being at where it was lying at and to move away from the busy road.

However, the wild boar did not react or move an inch, which prompted the man to think decisively and in a swift moment, carried the wild boar up.

Just as the wild boar was being lifted by the man, a few motorbikes neared them, coming to a stop and narrowly avoided colliding into them.

The wild boar also tried to release itself from the man’s grip as the man was bringing it to safety.

After a few struggles, the man managed to successfully brought it to the road shoulder and heaved a sigh of relief.

Wild boar was injured

The wild boar after getting to safety also tried walking, but its’ hind legs gave way and it fell, seemingly showing that the animal was injured.

As it tried to get into the forested area again, its’ hind legs gave way again.

Man received praises from netizens in the comments section

In the comments section, there were overpouring of praises by netizens for the man who selflessly saved the wild boar.

Here are some of the comments:

  • Thank you for your kind heart. I do hope the relevant authority was informed n help rendered.

Comments by ‘experts’

There were also some comments by a few netizens who did not give any compliments to the man for his actions but tried to comment on what else could be done more on the man’s part.

One even shared his own experiences with wildlife on the roads.

Here are the comments:

  • The rear legs already fractured, couldn’t stand or use it. Should have called Acres to bring it back.
  • Did someone get acres to treat the injury?

VLADIMIR PUTIN ORDERS TROOPS INTO EASTERN UKRAINE, CALLS IT A “COLONY”

0

Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered the deployment of Russian military into the Ukrainian provinces of Donetsk and Luhansk, recognizing them as breakaway independent states in a televised interview earlier today (22 February), according to The Washington Post.

According to The Guardian, Putin described Ukraine as being a colony and that they never had “authentic statehood”, signing treaties with the leaders of Donetsk and Luhansk, ordering the Russian military into the states for what is described as “peacekeeping duties”.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky urged his people during a televised statement, to stay calm, and he called for the country’s allies to respond.

According to the New York Times, Zelensky said that they are “on our own land, we are not afraid of anything or anyone”.

The Ukrainian foreign minister Dmytro Kuleba said on Twitter that he has officially requested the United Nations Security Council to meet and hold discussions to de-escalate the situation, under the initiative of the Ukraine president.

The US Secretary of State Antony Blinken described Russia’s actions as needing a “swift and firm response”, with the White House and US President Joe Biden reaffirming Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Joe Biden said that the US and its allies will respond to Putin’s actions, and “strongly condemns” what he has done.

Biden then announced that he has signed an Executive Order to deny Russia the chance to profit from its actions, imposing sanctions on the separatist states.

Results have been released for 2021’s GCE A’Level examinations and the cohort saw almost 93.5% of the candidates recording a minimum of three Higher Two (H2) passes.

The total number of candidates who took the examinations in Singapore was 11,070.

10,353 candidates out of the 11,070 or in percentage terms at 93.5% scored a minimum of three H2 passes and it includes either General Paper (GP) or Knowledge and Inquiry.

Comparable results to previous cohorts

The Ministry of Education (MOE) and the Singapore Examinations and Assessment Board (SEAB) said that the results this year were comparable to the results of previous cohorts, not including the pandemic.

Received results separately

As the pandemic situation in Singapore is still ongoing, students collected their results in different classrooms.

Only candidates from schools who are collecting their results were allowed into the school’s premises as part of the current pandemic measures in place.

Private candidates will receive their results via post and all candidates can also view their results from the SEAB portal.

Application for Universities

MOE and SEAB also said that students who want to apply for Autonomous Universities (AUs) can do so via sending their applications directly online, without the need to submit the physical copies of their A’Level transcripts.

They can approach the AUs directly or find information that they need from their respective websites.

Application for diplomas

Those who are eligible and wish to take up a diploma from Polytechnics can get exemptions in up to 120 selected courses.

The exemptions will reduce the length of their diplomas up to a year.

Students who are interested in taking up a diploma can apply directly to the respective polytechnics from 22 Feb to 7 Mar for courses starting in Apr 2022.

There are also more details available on their respective sites.

Students seeking guidance

Should any of the candidates need guidance, they can contact their own teachers or seek help from Education and Career Guidance (ECG) counsellors who are supporting their schools.

TOYOTA VELLFIRE GOES AGAINST TRAFFIC FLOW ON ONE WAY ROAD

0

Photos have been uploaded on social media of a White Toyota Vellfire vehicle turning against the flow of traffic on a one way road when exiting from a filter lane.

The Toyota Vellfire vehicle was first seen forming up at a stop line beside a Grabfood cyclist while waiting for their turn to turn out to the main road.

On the road itself, there is a left turn only sign indicating that the flow of traffic is only one way and vehicles coming out from the filter lane can only turn left and not turn right to filter to the opposite lane.

However, in a second picture, the Toyota Vellfire seems to have not noticed it or rather turning right on purpose as it was captured turning right on the left turn only lane.

May be an image of 2 people, people standing and road

A third picture then shows the Toyota Vellfire cutting across to the opposite lane, which is illegal to do so.

May be an image of 2 people, road and street

It is not known which part of Singapore the pictures were taken from.

Penalties

Under Singapore’s Traffic laws, vehicles are not allowed to drive against the flow of traffic and if found to have done so, faces a fine of $400 for light vehicles and $500 for heavy vehicles.

The total of eight demerit points will also be given to the driver of the vehicle.

GUY REJECTED HIGHER PAYING JOB SO HE CAN BUY BTO INSTEAD OF EC

0

A netizen shared how he rejected a higher paying job just so that he could buy a BTO flat instead of an Executive Condominium.

Here is the story

decided not to get a higher paying job just so I can buy a BTO instead of EC.

AITA for not wanting to job hop for a higher pay after receiving an offer just so I can get a BTO flat?

As you all know, the income ceiling for BTO is $14k. Both my GF and my salary are slightly above $6k, and our combined salary is close to the income ceiling of $14k

So if I job hop to the new job(I was offered $7.5k), then our combined salary will be over $14k, which means we are no longer eligible for a BTO flat.

We have gotten a queue number and the completion date of our BTO is 2025. My GF has been wanting to get an Executive Condominium for some reason which is do-able for both of us, but something that I do not see a need to when a HDB is way bigger and cheaper.

A 2-Bedroom EC cost around $700k to $1m for ~800sqft but our 5-ROOM BTO is ~1200sqft. I have not informed my GF regarding my new job offer because I’m sure we will quarrel over this.

Netizens’ comments

I dont know about you but living in EC is no big deal. Spend more money, lesser space. You’re gonna regret a 2BR EC if you’re planning to have kids.

At an EC you’re entitled to use the pool and some other facilities but that’s about all. Not say you got EC means your neighbours are higher class and more well behaved.

My brother stays in an EC and the neighbour to the left is a drunkard. Neighbour to the right has mental problem, bangs on the wall asking the devil to leave.

Use the difference to invest or save up for a 999 or freehold since I dont think your salary now can do so?

Ur gf want to stay ec because want to haolian?

GIRL ON TINDER DATE WITH GUY WHO KEPT BRAGGING ABOUT HIS WEALTH

0

A girl shared how she was on the worst Tinder date of her life with a guy who couldn’t stop bragging about his wealth.

Here is the story

Had experienced the worst tinder date of my life and would like to share the story.

So i matched with this guy on tinder few weeks back and we clicked instantly, decided to meet up for dinner last week. Even before our food arrived, there were already a lot of things that were off about this guy. Halfway through dinner, i was already just counting down the time to go back home. It was hell. Below are just some of the things he did:

1. Bragged non-stop about his wealth; bragging about his car watch etc and kept talking about cars, even called me clueless for not knowing about certain car models??? Like hello do you think i could even understand half of what you were saying? You should have taken the hint when i showed that i wasnt interested but instead you kept continuing

2. Debated about politics. Complained A LOT about the party he dislikes. Isn’t that our first date? You really had to talk about politics on the first date?

3. No table manners. The restaurant we ate at was a little atas and he chose the restaurant so ofc i would expect at least some table manners from him. But the whole time he was just shaking his legs till the table would shake sometimes and he kept making loud noises with his cutlery. I was so embarressed when people kept looking over at our table -.-

4. Very hao lian, keep comparing himself to hollywood actors. Keep saying that he thinks he look like Ryan Gosling and had the cheek to ask me if i agree with him. Please la… not even close. Ryan Gosling’s eyes alone can beat your entire face..

5. VERY RUDE to waiters and waitresses. Not a single please or thank you to them. He was even impatient with one of the waiter when he brought the wrong drink over

6. I thought we were going dutch and I don’t know if he was joking or what but he said “so today you paying for me hor” which i politely declined and offered to split the bill. He hesitated for a while before agreeing

It was my first time experiencing such a lousy date and i ghosted him the next day. Moral of the story is…. ladies, if you ever feel off on the first date, just trust your own intuition! Chances are the red flags will never go away. So just RUN!!!
