The National Environment Agency (NEA) recently shared a post on Facebook urging people to clear their own trays after they are done dining in at the hawker centres.

It added that by clearing our own trays, cleaners will not lose their jobs and because they will always be needed to ensure that the general cleanliness of the dining areas is good and they have other job scopes other than clearing trays.

An act as simple as clearing our own trays will make the turnover time for other patrons to dine at the table faster.

Lim Kian Hui, a 53-year-old cleaner, was sentenced to 3 months and 2 week imprisonment as well as being fined $1,000 yesterday (5 November).

He pleaded guilty to 2 counts of public nuisance, one count of using vulgar language on a public service worker and one count of criminal intimidation.

He had harassed a hairstylist who told him that she doesn’t provide s*xual services.

He also verbally assaulted a bus driver and slammed his fist against the driver’s partition.

What happened?

Lim was talking loudly on the phone on 3 August after boarding a bus from Woodlands Interchange.

The driver then told him to stop talking because of the risk of spread of Covid, but was ignored.

The driver then told him to get off the bus or get off the phone, to which Lim then shouted vulgarities at him and hit his fist on the bus captain’s physical partition.

Lim then pushed the victim’s shoulder and put his fist on the victim’s face.

The driver then had to stop his bus and let the passengers alight, disrupting the bus service.

Lim then alighted from the bus and continued his shouting tirade at the driver, and he was caught on the bus’ CCTV.

Asked hairstylist for special service

Separately, Lim was at a hair salon in Geylang on 2 September at about 12.30am.

He asked the hairstylist for s*xual services to which the 28-year-old woman got offended and told him that she doesn’t provide such services.

Lim the refused to vacate the premises and continued to harass her, making kissing noises at her.

The victim ignored him, to which he then shouted at her.

The police then arrived and Lim fled the scene in a taxi.

Lim then returned to the salon at 2.30am and confronted the woman, holding a soft drink can that was flattened against her neck and told her: “Do you want to try me?”

The victim then shoved away Lim’s hand and he then spat on the ground near her, he was not wearing a mask at the time.

Lim also punched a passerby who called the police.
