TANGS MARKET CLOSED FOR DEEP CLEANING AFTER VIDEO OF RAT DYING ON TRAY WENT VIRAL

0

Following a now-viral video clip of a dying rat found on a food tray at Tangs Market and subsequent investigations by the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) and the National Environment Agency (NEA), Tangs Market will be closed today (30 November) for “deep cleaning and sanitation works,” according to Channel NewsAsia.

Tangs said in a statement yesterday that the food court was closed for a thorough cleaning and sanitising on Wednesday, with another session scheduled for today (30 November).

They said that it was part of their efforts to “exceed hygiene and sanitisation standards” and that “We, together with Fei Siong and our other F&B operators at Tangs Market, continue to render support and assistance to affected customers.”

This comes after the NEA and SFA said in a joint statement that their officers had discovered a rat infestation in the ceiling areas, as well as lapses in hygiene standards in 5 of the food stalls.

Tangs described the incident as “regrettable” and added that they are taking all matters that concern public health very seriously.

They also added that they will be continuing their engagement with SFA and its partnered agencies to uphold their standards of hygiene, including increasing pest control checks and cleaning works.

Recap on incident

In the heart of the bustling Tangs Plaza food court, a scene unfolded that left diners in sheer disbelief and horror.

A gigantic rat, slumped over on a food tray, was still alive but appeared to be in the throes of death. The reactions of nearby diners ranged from gasps to outright shrieks as they grappled with the unsettling sight before them.

As patrons were enjoying their meals, the atmosphere took a drastic turn when the attention shifted to a particular dining table.

A huge rat, its fur matted and body languid, lay on a tray as if it had claimed the spot as its own. Despite the apparent distress of the creature, it still exhibited feeble movements, adding an eerie dimension to the already surreal scene.

The immediate reactions from diners were a mix of shock, disgust, and disbelief. Some recoiled in horror, while others couldn’t help but vocalize their astonishment as some of them gasped and shrieked.

The food court, typically filled with the hum of conversations, fell into a momentary hush as the sight registered with everyone present.

The tray of food under the rat’s dominion told a tale of diners abruptly vacating the area. Plates and utensils were left as if in mid-use, a clear indication that the appearance of the rat had prompted a swift and collective retreat from the scene.

HUGE RAT @ TANGS MARKET INCIDENT – THE ABANDONED FOOD BELONGED TO PREGNANT WOMAN

0

It was previously reported that a huge dying rat was seen slumped over an abandoned tray of food at Tangs Market food court.

It has since been revealed that the abandoned tray of food belonged to a woman who was 16-weeks pregnant, who ended up being traumatised by the incident, according to Channel NewsAsia.

The Traumatic Encounter

The incident unfolded as the pregnant woman, midway through her meal, felt a mysterious liquid on her hand. To her horror, she discovered a rat on her food tray.

The ensuing chaos involved screams, frantic handwashing, and a rush to the emergency department at Gleneagles Hospital, resulting in a medical bill of S$1,152.06.

Tensions rose as the woman, now on antibiotics and probiotics due to potential rodent contamination, faced a subsequent gynaecologist consultation.

The doctor affirmed the well-being of both mother and foetus, but concerns lingered about the aftermath of the traumatic event.

Tangs’ Initial Offer

In an attempt to address the incident, a Tangs duty manager extended apologies and offered a “wellness hamper” to the affected family.

However, Mdm Lim, the woman’s mother, rejected the gesture, seeking a more substantial resolution from Tangs. Later, the company sweetened the deal with a S$200 gift card, prompting mixed reactions from Mdm Lim.

Mdm Lim’s demand for fair treatment escalated, rejecting the gift card as insufficient to cover medical expenses and other associated costs. She criticized Tangs’ approach, emphasizing their responsibility in maintaining food safety and described the compensation offer as an “insult”.

HDB VOID DECK SEALED OFF TO STOP KIDS PLAYING FOOTBALL, NO WONDER SG FOOTBALL HOPELESS

0

The quiet streets of Woodlands were disrupted when Sembawang Town Council decided to take an unconventional step to address a growing concern.

In an attempt to curb noise generated by school children playing at the void deck, the council partially barricaded the area under Block 638 Woodlands Ring Road.

However, not everyone welcomed this move, especially one resident who found the measure excessive and unjustified, and wrote in to The Monitor.

The barricade and notice

On November 3, 2023, a formal notice from the town council announced the barricading of the void deck area, leading to mixed reactions among residents. The crux of the matter lies in a resident’s perspective, who deemed the measure too extreme just to deter children from enjoying a game.

A vivid photo emerged, displaying the void deck sealed off with orange barrier mesh. Two signs prominently declared that playing football was strictly prohibited in the area, providing visual evidence of the town council’s attempt to enforce the rules.

The dissatisfaction of a resident took center stage as they not only voiced their concerns but also took to social media. An Instagram story and the uploaded notice by the town council became mediums for the resident to express their discontent.

Town Council’s response

Sembawang Town Council responded, citing noise complaints as the primary reason for the drastic measure. The town council had initially put up signs and advised the youths against playing ball games at the void deck. However, the persistent disturbance led to the decision to temporarily barricade the area.

The town council’s decision was not made in isolation. It came after receiving feedback about the noise created by school children playing in the void deck. The feedback provider requested intervention, stating that the noise disrupted the serenity within the block and surrounding areas.

The town council, facing continued non-compliance, decided to partially barricade the void deck. The measure aimed to temporarily prevent further disturbance while preserving the availability of the space for other functions like weddings and funerals, upon booking.

While the barricade stood as a deterrent, the town council clarified that the void deck remained available for specific events. The barricade would be removed for official bookings, ensuring that social events could proceed without hindrance.

76 Y.O ELDERLY TISSUE SELLER EATS 1 MEAL A DAY TO SURVIVE, CAN’T AFFORD TO SEE DOCTOR

0

In the heart of Singapore, a poignant tale unfolds—one of a 76-year-old man named Goh, who despite spending over seven decades in the country, remains “stateless,” according to 8World News.

He currently makes a living selling tissue paper near the Paya Lebar MRT station every day from 6am to 5pm, and earns less than $100.

This is the remarkable and often heartbreaking story of a man whose life has been entwined with the complex threads of citizenship, loss, and survival.

Early Life in Malaysia

Goh’s journey began in 1947 in Perak, Malaysia, where he was born. At the tender age of five, he relocated to Singapore with his parents, setting the stage for a life marked by unexpected twists.

At nine, Goh commenced his formal education, only to abandon it three years later under his parents’ direction to learn Hokkien opera. This decision would later impact his pursuit of citizenship.

Goh faced setbacks at 13 and 20 when his attempts to secure Singaporean citizenship were thwarted due to his lack of proficiency in English or Malay, revealing the linguistic challenges embedded in the citizenship process.

Becoming Stateless

The turning point came at 25 when Goh, inexplicably, lost his Malaysian nationality, rendering him stateless. The absence of a passport and citizenship posed a myriad of challenges, thrusting him into a precarious existence.

With no official identity, Goh navigated life as a singer of Hokkien opera and later as a rag-and-bone man, showcasing resilience in the face of adversity.

A decade ago, Goh’s life took a new turn as he began selling tissue paper near Paya Lebar MRT station. Despite his daily toil from 6 am to 5 pm, his earnings rarely exceeded S$100.

Living alone in an HDB flat, Goh’s solitude is amplified by the absence of family. A divorce and financial disputes with his sisters severed ties, while the death of his girlfriend years ago added a layer of heartbreak to his already challenging life.

He has two children with which he is estranged with, one stays overseas while the other demanded $20,000 from him.

Financial Strains and Health Challenges

In late 2022, Goh received a Special Pass, legalizing his stay in Singapore and granting him S$410 in monthly aid. However, the rising cost of living compelled him to adopt a stringent budget, restricting himself to one meal a day.

Bearing the physical toll of a car accident, Goh’s health deteriorated. Despite a red and swollen eye, he hesitated to seek hospital care due to financial constraints.

The Uncharted Future

Goh, with no intention of reapplying for Singaporean citizenship, faces an uncertain future. Without a passport or knowledge of obtaining a Certificate of Identity, leaving Singapore is not an option.

With no familial ties in Malaysia, Goh embraces a day-to-day existence, accepting whatever comes his way. His words reflect a stoic resignation to life’s challenges.

He says that he is taking each day as it comes and if he can’t sell tissue paper anymore, he will just wait for his death.

S’POREAN EMPLOYEE SAYS HE FEEL THAT HIS WORKPLACE PRIORITIZE FOREIGN WORKERS

0

Venting my frustration and sharing my work ordeal in the IT industry as a Singaporean under Indian management.

For a while now, I’ve been grappling with significant mental stress at my workplace, and I feel compelled to shed light on an issue that’s been affecting not just me but many other Singaporeans in similar positions. Working in an industry that demands constant innovation and collaboration, it’s disheartening to witness biased promotion practices.

The hierarchy in my workplace seems to prioritize individuals from India, with promotions and major projects consistently going their way. It’s demoralizing to see talent and hard work overlooked simply based on nationality.

As a Singaporean, I take pride in serving our nation and contributing to its safety through national service. It’s disconcerting to feel that this dedication is not reciprocated in the professional realm. The silent battle many Singaporeans face in the workforce against individuals from other nations is a harsh reality that needs urgent attention.

Promotions and project opportunities should be based on merit, dedication, and skill, not nationality. It’s disheartening to witness the blatant favoritism that creates a toxic work environment, hindering the growth and morale of many deserving individuals.

It’s high time we address these issues and foster a workplace culture that values diversity and equal opportunities. Let’s not forget that a harmonious and inclusive work environment benefits everyone.

Here are what netizens think:

  • My boss Changed to CECA, promoted his own kind. I wan to complain to HR also cannot as the HR director also changed to CECA
  • Well to be fair, other race also do the same sometimes. Yellow company favors yellow people, brown favors brown, tan favors tan, and white favors white.
  • Just name the company out loud so that they don’t get away with it!. With their toxic working style.
  • I feel you. Many of us are on the same boat. Your rant speaks our mind. Hard to swallow the facts that their half past six ability still given the priority. Sad to say that even Singaporean not helping own kind.

GIRL KENA SCOLDED BY CUSTOMER AT SHOP, BUT SHE DOESN’T WORK THERE

0

when I was around 19yrs old, I was at the mall with my two friends. We were in a shoe store, trying on shoes.

There was a middle aged couple in the very large store (and two employees in their uniforms who were at the cashier), but otherwise the store was empty.

I noticed the woman customer staring at me out of the corner of my eye, but I wouldn’t look.

The woman then started saying “umm hello?! I need you to come find me a pair of shoes!” louder and louder as I continued to ignore her, proceeded shopping and trying on shoes.

She was getting pretty mad. I knew she was talking to me, but I refused to look or say anything because I obviously didn’t work there and her tone was disrespectful.

I was wearing a sun dress, high heels and had my purse so I’m not sure why she thought I was an employee in the first place.

The employees were wearing matching uniforms, certainly not dresses with heels, and they were clearly standing at the front of the store at the registers.

Well i refused to look over and she started getting really nasty “hey you! I’m talking to you! What the hell do you think you are doing?! I need your help! Why is she refusing to do her job!”

Her husband told her quietly “she doesn’t work here, she’s another customer” but she wouldn’t listen she kept going on and on in a huff.

I walked over to my friends, we all laughed and left. I just couldn’t believe she was so pig-headed, she still kept going on even after she was informed she was wrong by her husband.
