MAN FELL IN LOVE WITH FOREIGNER, THINKING IF SHOULD CHASE HER OVERSEAS

0

Never thought i’d make a post like this, but here we are:

I went on a date with a girl last week, we both had no expectations as she was only in the country for a few days for work.

I’ve never gotten so comfortable with someone so quickly, we vibed instantly, had similar values, both admitted high physical attraction for each other and just had THE best night ever.

The night went by in such a blur, which followed by us continuing the date the following day. Before I knew it, I was dropping her off at the airport and she was gone.

I finally found someone I truly, genuinely liked and she doesn’t even live in the same country haha – but such is life I suppose.

My question is, how much of what is going through my head is real, and not just some “what if” fantasy because we could only spend < 24hrs with each other?

I could easily arrange flights to see her again, and she was very into the idea, but I’m not sure if I’m setting myself up for hurt.

Has anyone else followed love to a different country? Could make quite a good story to look back on…

Here are what netizens think

  • My advice would be to understand that it could fail but it can also succeed. In life, all you can do is put yourself out there and accept the outcome regardless of what happens. The only way you introduce success as an option, is by trying.
  • Dude if y’all really clicked and you feel this is the one, pursue that and meet again, and see where life takes you. That’s the beauty of life and following your gut. Good luck on it
  • Go for it. When you’re older you’ll be proud you chased something like this. Why not?

SG ‘KAREN’ SCREAMS AT CAROUSELLER AFTER LOWBALLING, THEN SAYS SHE KENA CHEATED

0

So I was selling my old iPhones on Carousell. All peachy perfect when I sold my first one. No issues, no fuss, phone is in great condition as I stated in listing. Awesome transaction.

Kena lowballed by a lady and scolded by her because she don’t know how to charge the phone

Then here comes this lady. Let’s call her Lady K. So Lady K lowballed me for my phone, then proceeded to buy the phone. Upon purchase, she went home.

Little did I know, Lady K spammed texted me a s-t load of messages saying how I cheated her money etc because she couldn’t charge the phone.

I don’t have a problem with people bringing up their issues with products. What triggers me is the screaming texts from this individual and outright saying “I don’t want to accuse you of cheating but” and “SO NOW WHAT? U CHEATING ME?!” Lady K refused to admit that she accused me of cheating when I did not, and is just disrespectful.

When trying to reason with her she could not accept my explanations or even listen to what I have to say.

Is this common in Carousell? Is this the common way of dealing with problems? Like lady, stop screaming please. Have a little more respect.

Don’t expect others to speak nicely and treat you with respect when you don’t.

Here are what netizens think

  • Some ppl r weird on Carousell. One time I sold a tie, and the guy lost it on the way home. Somehow that’s my fault . And he didn’t understand why I don’t have another one …. Like lol bro, I’m not a shop ….
  • Yes, it’s common. Just block her and move on. Literally there are a lot of crazy ass people you can encounter on carousell or other online platforms where you can buy/sell stuff. People can sometimes act very irrational/crazy when they want something cheap.
  • Some people are just entitled pricks. Had the same with someone on Shopee claiming she was being cheated because she’s a tech idi-t who couldn’t figure out the payment process. Since you’ve completed the transaction I’d say just report and block.

MAN EAT MALA AND LAO SAI EVERYDAY, SAYS ITS WORTH IT

0

I have been eating mala almost every other day for the past few years and have been getting bouts of diarrhoea after eating it probably due to the fact that I have IBS.

Despite this, I still believe that it is worth eating even if it does cause me some discomfort.

Went to google on why I always lao sai

When I first started to eat mala, I never experienced any adverse effects. But over time, I started to notice that I was getting diarrhoea after eating mala.

At first, I was quite worried that I might have a food allergy or some kind of digestive issue, but after talking to my doctor and doing some research online, I realised that it wasn’t anything serious.

The cause of the diarrhoea is the capsaicin, which is an active ingredient in mala. This ingredient is what gives mala its spicy flavour, but it can also cause some digestive issues in some people.

For me who has IBS, I would just lao sai because of the spiciness.

Tried to downgrade to xiao la

I tried to choose the spiciness level to ‘xiao la’, which means small levels of spiciness but even so, it did not help my bowels and I would still feel the urge to lao sai.

That was when I thought to myself that it doesn’t matter anymore, I’ll just go for the most spicy level each time and deal with the bouts of lao sai when it comes.

Despite the fact that I have to keep going to the toilet, I still believe that mala is worth eating even if it does cause me some discomfort.

The flavour of mala is so unique and delicious that I can’t help but crave it.

MAN PAYS FOR FRIENDS TO GO SIAM DIU EVERYDAY AS HE CAN’T STAND BEING ALONE

0

I cannot stand being alone. It is a feeling of emptiness that I cannot shake, no matter how hard I try. I hate it. I hate the loneliness and the isolation, and so I do whatever I can to avoid it.

I have found a way to do that: going out to siam dius every day.

Always asks my friends out to join me even if I have to pay

My friends know that I hate being alone, so most of them are always willing to join me when they have the spare cash.

Sometimes at certain periods of the month before all their salaries come in, they would not want to join me because they do not have spare cash but I would always just ask them to come along and offer to pay for the bill.

To me, it is just a small price to pay instead of staying at home and being lonely.

We go many different siam dius and just enjoy ourselves. I have bottle balances in almost every siam diu in Singapore.

I love the energy and the atmosphere of the music, and I love being around my friends. We talk, laugh, flirt a little with the Siam bu who comes and entertain us and just have a good time. It helps me to forget my loneliness and just enjoy the moment.

When I’m not out with my friends, I try to stay busy and distracted. I watch movies and play video games. Anything to keep my mind occupied and away from the emptiness. I also try to surround myself with people, even if it’s just for a short amount of time.

I’ll chat with almost anyone and try to jio more people out for the next siam diu adventure, anything to keep me from being alone.

Just cannot be alone

To me, nothing can replace the feeling of being around people. That is why I go siam diu every day. It is a place where I can be surrounded by people and just enjoy the music and the company. It is a place where I can forget about my loneliness and just be happy.

I know that loneliness is a part of life and that it is something that I will always have to deal with. But going to siam diu every day has helped me to cope with it.

It has given me a way to fight the emptiness and just enjoy being around people.

MAN THINKS HE’S RICH BECAUSE BANKS APPROACH HIM TO SIGN CREDIT CARD

0

I thought I was rich. Every day, banks would call me, sending me emails and letters in the mail, offering me more credit cards and more lines of credit.

I started to believe that I had made it, that I was finally part of the upper class. I was so excited, I wanted to sign up for as many credit cards as I could.

Signed for whatever and whoever that came

I started signing up for every credit card offer I received. I quickly maxed out all of my available credit lines and I was living the high life.

I had enough money to buy whatever I wanted and I was finally living the life I had always dreamed of.

Started to fall into debt

But then, reality started to set in. My bills started piling up and I realized that I had made a mistake. I had taken on more debt than I could afford to pay back.

I started to panic. I was in way over my head and I had no idea how I was going to get out of the financial mess I had created.

I tried to make some changes, but it was too late. My credit score was in the gutter and I was unable to get any more credit cards.

I was stuck with the debt I had and no way to pay it off. I had to declare bankruptcy and lose everything I had worked so hard for.

I had thought I was rich, but I was wrong. All of the credit cards and lines of credit I had taken out had only led me to financial ruin.

I had thought that I was rich and that I could handle the debt I had taken on, but I was wrong.

KID JAMS MRT DOOR TO DELAY IT ON PURPOSE AND RECORDS IT FOR YOUTUBE

A video of what seems like someone obstructing the MRT train sliding doors from closing on purpose was recorded at Jurong East MRT station and uploaded online.

According to the video, the one behind the camera seems to be only a child.

Asked audience to watch his actions

The video started with the cameraman exiting the train at Jurong East MRT and a voice could be heard asking people to ‘watch’ as he attempts to obstruct the door from closing.

After successfully attempting to do what he did, the red error light at the MRT door comes on and the train was stuck in the station for a while.

According to a comment from a netizen, the failsafe of such systems is that trains will not move off unless all platform screen doors are secured(closed). Because of his actions the PSD’s motor sensors could not detect that it has closed.

The cameraman then exclaimed that what he did was ‘perfect’.

He then walks away and says that he is doing so as he does not want to be a ‘suspect’ who caused the incident.

The voice then says that he is going to upload the video to Youtube, then hesitates for a while before confirming that he is going to upload the video.

He then exclaims and laughs at his failed attempted after the train doors open up for a commuter to board the train.

A while later, he is seen going to look at the track and another MRT train can be seen waiting a distance away for the affected train to depart.

He then says that the train got disrupted and exclaimed his disappointment when the staff at Jurong East MRT came up to fix the issue.

Here are what netizens think

  • Nice. Now time to report it to the authorities which I think ppl already did.
  • Once again, another day when I’m grateful that abortion is legal
  • Nice. Commit a “crime”, records it for evidence and then upload online
  • This one legit CB and add extra work for the already overworked staffs, I hope he gets slapped with a fine.
  • Time for his parents to pay such a huge fine that they’ll take away this little sh-t’s phone until he can get his own.
  • If only his video was good enough to earn enough money on Youtube so he can pay the fine… Too bad it s-cks. All this, just for a terribly taken video?

Potential penalties

Under the Rapid Transit Systems Regulations, no person shall interfere with any of the platform screen or train door or its operational capabilities other than:

  • In emergencies and by by means of any equipment on or near which is a notice indicating that it is intended to be used in an emergency
  • Where the person is authorised to carry out his duties

There is a maximum fine of $1000

MAN TELLS PEOPLE HIS GF ANYHOW SPEND BECAUSE HE PAISEH THAT HE EARNS LESSER

0

I was so embarrassed. I had been dating my girlfriend for two years, but I had never told anyone how much I earned compared to her.

But recently, I had to tell my friends that she was a spendthrift because I earned much less than her.

She earns more than me and I felt paiseh

I had met my girlfriend at university, where I was studying engineering and she was studying business. We were both in our final year and both had big dreams for the future.

Eventually we graduated and found jobs and because she was more sociable than me, she climbed the corporate ladder faster, got promoted and naturally came the pay increments.

Soon, she was making almost twice of what I earned.

It didn’t really matter to me or her as to who was earning more, at least that was what I thought until one fine day when my relatives asked me about it during family dinner.

Claimed to relatives that she is a spendthrift to cover up the fact that I earned lesser

That’s when I had to explain to my relatives with some made up excuse because I was so embarrassed to tell them that I earned much less than her.

I started to tell them that she would use my money and I was supporting her in a way.

I told them she always spends without thinking and sometimes she will spend on things we didn’t need.

I also said that she would buy expensive clothes, dinners out, and other luxuries that she couldn’t afford and all these was possible because she was using my money but the truth was she was spending well within her means and it was all her own money.

Even though she spends quite a bit, she still has more savings than me and this made me feel a little like a loser.

It has been a few months since my relatives asked about our finances and I wonder how long I can keep up with this lie.

I can’t help but feel embarrassed and ashamed that I earn much less than her and I still feel like I don’t measure up to her.

I can’t shake the feeling that I am not worthy of her because of my financial situation.

MAJOR SUPERMARKETS TO CHARGE 5 CENTS FOR PLASTIC BAGS FROM JULY, NO LONGER FREE

0

The National Environmental Agency (NEA) and the Ministry of Sustainability and Environment (MSE) said in a joint press release that from 3 July onwards, major supermarkets with an annual turnover of more than $100 million, will be required to start charging at least 5 cents for each disposable carrier bag.

JOINT NEWS RELEASE BETWEEN NEA AND MSE

The Resource Sustainability (Amendment) Bill was introduced for a First Reading in Parliament today. The proposed amendments seek to reduce packaging and food waste and aim to drive behavioural changes across Singapore to reduce waste and increase recycling.

2          The Bill proposes a legislative framework for three measures, namely a disposable carrier bag charge at supermarkets, a beverage container return scheme, and a food waste reporting framework. The measures will contribute towards the national targets under the Singapore Green Plan 2030 and the Zero Waste Masterplan: to reduce the amount of waste sent to the landfill per capita per day by 30 per cent, and to increase the national recycling rate to 70 per cent by 2030. They will also help to extend the lifespan of our only landfill, Semakau Landfill.

Managing Singapore’s packaging waste with disposable carrier bag charge at supermarkets and the beverage container return scheme

3          Packaging waste constitutes about one-third of domestic waste disposed of and about 60 per cent of this is plastic. In 2021, only 6 per cent of plastic waste disposed of was recycled.

Disposable carrier bag charge

4          Following extensive consultations, the disposable carrier bag charge was announced at the Committee of Supply debates in March 2022. The charge, applying to disposable carrier bags of all material types, will come into effect in mid-2023 to nudge consumers to shift towards the more sustainable habits of using reusable bags.

5          Larger supermarket operators will be required to charge a minimum of five cents for each disposable carrier bag provided to shoppers at their physical stores. The minimum charge has been kept low to moderate the cost impact on shoppers, while encouraging them to be mindful of the number of disposable carrier bags they take. To uphold accountability and transparency in the use of the proceeds, supermarket operators will be required to publish information on the number of bags issued, amount of proceeds received from the bag charge, and how the proceeds are used including the support of charitable or environmental causes.

6          For a start, this requirement will apply to supermarket operators with an annual turnover of more than $100 million, as they are better resourced to implement the requirements. This covers about two thirds of all supermarket outlets in Singapore, including NTUC FairPrice, Cold Storage, Giant, Sheng Siong, and Prime supermarket outlets [1]. Supermarket operators with an annual turnover of less than $100 million are encouraged to voluntarily implement their own bag charges. Many such retailers have already done so.

7          As the public will continue to have access to disposable bags from other sources, the responsible practice of bagging waste before disposal should continue. Refer to thislink for more information on the disposable carrier bag charge and an infographic that answers commonly asked questions regarding the bag charge.

Beverage container return scheme

8            Under the beverage container return scheme, a small deposit will be applied when consumers buy certain pre-packaged drinks. Consumers can claim a full refund of the deposit by returning their empty beverage containers at designated return points. This will encourage consumers to return empty beverage containers and increase the recycling rate of beverage containers.

9          This scheme will contribute to zero waste efforts by cultivating recycling habits amongst Singaporeans as well as aggregating clean and high-quality recyclables. By increasing the supply and quality of recyclables collected, the scheme will also support the development of Singapore’s recycling industry.

10        Since 2020, the Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment (MSE) and NEA have been consulting the industry, public and other stakeholders extensively to co-develop a scheme suitable for Singapore. Participants provided useful insights and feedback, which were taken into consideration when developing the scheme. Refer to this link for further information on the scheme and past consultations.

Closing Singapore’s food waste loop

11        In 2021, Singapore generated 817,000 tonnes of food waste, of which 19 per cent was recycled. Commercial and industrial premises account for approximately 40 per cent of the food waste generated in Singapore each year.

12        Owners or operators of industrial and commercial buildings, where large amounts of food waste are generated, are already required to segregate their food waste from 2024. To complement these requirements, they will also be required to measure and report the amount of food waste they have segregated for treatment.

FRIEND MIA AFTER BORROWING $300, SUDDENLY APPEARS TO BORROW $500 AGAIN

0

My friend and I had been close for years. We had been through thick and thin together and trusted each other. I had even been there for him when he needed money.

So, when he asked me for $300, I was willing to help him out. He said he needed the money for a business venture and he promised to pay me back soon. I didn’t think twice about it and gave him the money.

Disappeared after getting the $300

But then, he went missing. I called and texted him, but I never heard back. I started to worry that something bad had happened to him, but there was nothing I could do.

And then, out of nowhere, he reappeared. He asked me for another $500 and this time, I was suspicious. I asked him where he’d been and why he needed the money. He was evasive and wouldn’t answer my questions.

I was angry, but I was also desperate to get my money back. So, I reluctantly agreed to give him the money. But this time, I made sure to get a written agreement from him that he would pay me back.

Disappeared again after I lent him another $500

Unfortunately, my friend disappeared again, and this time, he didn’t come back. I was out of $800, and I was mad.

I had been there for him when he needed help, and he had taken advantage of my kindness. I had trusted him and it had been a huge mistake.

I never heard from him again, and I eventually accepted that I had been taken for a ride. I was out a lot of money, but I had learned a valuable lesson.

Never again would I lend money to someone without getting something in return. I had been burned once, and I wasn’t going to let it happen again.

HDB RESPONDS TO “SPOOKY” RED-COLORED BTO BLOCKS @ TAMPINES THAT LOOKS HAUNTED

0

Photos of a block of BTO flats in Tampines went viral on social media a few days ago, with netizens calling out the choice of red paint on the walls, ceiling and floors making the entire building look “spooky”, “creepy” and “eerie”.

The Housing Development Board (HDB) has since responded to the issue and said that they are looking into improving the eerie facade of the bock, with MP Baey Yam Keng adding that the choice of red paint was not appropriate.

Baey said that he received feedback from residents and is working with HDB on the issue, adding that he agrees with the comments that the block looks eerie after seeing the photos of the red-coloured block taken at night.

He said that he has told HDB about the inappropriate colour and they will be looking into it.

HDB will “tone it down”

A spokesperson for HDB said that they will be painting some of the red walls of the building white, in order to “tone it down”.

They said that the brightly coloured life lobbies were meant to differentiate the cluster of blocks and that the red-tiled areas will stay because it helps with wayfinding and painting the identity of the precinct.

They added that the three colours of the cluster of flats were inspired by dragon fruits, mangoes and mangosteens.

New residents found it eerie

A number of residents shared their thoughts on the creepy-looking red paint job of the building.

29-year-old Nur, who collected her keys to her new BTO flat at the affected block, told Straits Times that the lift lobby was eerie and scary and that it created a stressful environment instead of giving residents a sense of calm when they come home.

Another resident living there, 35-year-old Ms Lee, told ST that when she visited the block in the afternoon with her family, they thought it looked acceptable; but when they returned at night, it looked “scary”.
