COUPLE DIVORCE SO THEY CAN BUY ANOTHER HDB FLAT TO EARN RENTAL

0

Bumped into an ex-colleague (who is the same age as me) earlier and had an interesting brief catch up chat over coffee.

He and his wife are now divorced. But except that there is nothing wrong with their marriage and they are still living together. The sole purpose of getting the divorce is to be able to buy ANOTHER HDB FLAT (under the singles scheme). So they collectively own two HDB flats as two single individuals.

You see, he was a manager that had recently been displaced by cheaper foreign labour. As all of us know, at our age, there is a real challenge in getting a job that would pay him a decent salary. Yes, there are lots of employers that wants to hire him. He is, afterall, a qualified professional with a wealth of 30 years’ experience behind him. However, these greedy employers are just not willing to pay him his worth and wants to exploit his skills and experience for a mean salary. He refused to prostitute his skills for a low salary. He end up driving a cab that (ironically) pays him more than any of the offers that he had received.

He won’t be getting any of his CPF money next year because he won’t be able to meet his minimum sum. All his past CPF contributions (more than $800K) had already gone into his 5rm HDB flat that they are staying in now.

His wife has some CPF left but she (too) won’t be able to get a single cent out in a few years’ time because she (too) won’t be able to meet the minimum sum as well.

So they planned, got a divorce and bought a second HDB flat just before they could lock away her CPF as the minimum sum in her CPF.

They then moved into the new flat and rented their older flat out legally because he had already and duly met the “Minimum Occupation Period” required for the legal renting out for that flat. And this rental income will serve an additional passive retirement income.

When I asked if he would be flouting any HDB regulations by doing that, he replied,

1) They are legally divorced and they are both legally SINGLE now.

2) He can retain the existing 5rm flat under the singles scheme and his wife is eligible to buy another flat under the singles scheme.

3) There is no law in this land that prohibit two single persons (divorced or not) from living together as a couple regardless if they were previously married or not.

4) At his age, being legally married is just a marital status. It doesn’t stop them living together as man and wife. They both had made their wills.

5) Instead of having the money stuck as a minimum sum in their CPF, they might as well utilise whatever that they can get out of their CPF so as to get an alternative passive income since:-

– – a) they won’t be able to get any of their CPF money anyway

– – b) even when they do get their CPF monthly payouts after the age of 65 yrs old (which is still a long way to go), the amounts will be so miserable that they would hardly be able to do anything decent with it anyway…

– – c) so…. they might as well get a second HDB flat with whatever money that they can siphoned out from their CPF (before the money is being locked away instead under the minimum sum)…. rent it out and (at least), the monthly rental income of $2,500 can help them live a more dignified retirement IMMEDIATELY (right away) rather than waiting till they reach 65 yrs old for that miserable delayed CPF payout that is so insignificant….

Thinking aloud now…. could this be the new norm of retirement in Singapore that Singaporeans will be planning for? Wouldn’t it be so sad that we have to come to this, in order that we can respond to how our hard-earned CPF money is being wilfully and forcefully withheld from us…

0

32-year-old Nipapron Meeking, visited a clinic for an eyebrow tattoo session in the Rayong Province of Eastern Thailand.

She said that she wanted her new eyebrows to look pretty and her friend suggested a shop for her, and she ended up paying SGD$57.73 (1,500 baht) for the session.

However, the tattoo session went wrong and she ended up with 2 extra permanent eyebrows above her existing ones.

She said that she was speechless when she looked in the mirror and confronted the artist, who then promised to rectify their mistake and remove her additional eyebrows.

However, the shop then closed down the following day and Nipapron couldn’t contact them anymore or locate them.

She then reportedly hid herself at home for a year, refusing to leave her house because of her four eyebrows.

Another tattoo artist, 32-year-old Pattawee Phumkasem, learned about the poor woman’s predicament and offered his assistance to her for free.

He removed her extra eyebrows and will soon be able to restore them after three months, saying that he had to remove the old ink and wait for it to fade before he can outline the new eyebrows.

MAN FOUND OUT HE WAS CHARGED $124 FOR 3 CRABS AFTER BEING TOLD IT WAS $93

0

Facebook user Alan Ang shared how he visited a seafood restaurant at Punggol on 4 September to celebrate his wife’s birthday.

He said that he asked the waitress how much was the medium crab, and was told that it was $29 and after GST it would be $31.03.

So he ordered 3 of the crabs for $93.09, but he later found out that he was charged $124.10 instead, and when he went back to see the boss and/or manager, the restaurant allegedly refused to let him see them.

Here is what he said

I went to House of Seafood at punggol point on 04/09/2022 at 7.00pm to celebrate my wife’s birthday.

When I reached I asked the waitress one medium crab how much she told me $29 then I asked her any hidden charged? she said no, so I ordered 3 Crabs from her, and went to the cashier to pay for the bill.

when I asked the cashier how much, he replied $29 plus GST, actually, the crab was $31.03 each, then that was alright.

I think the waitress might not sure about the GST, so I don’t mind to pay for the GST.

later I gave my credit card to the cashier to settle the bill of 3 crabs, that would be the price $93.09 but then I was overlooked, receipt was wrongly charged.

when I went home halfway, I noticed 3 crabs bill were $124.10 incorrectly charged so I quickly rushed back to the restaurant to see the boss or manager but they refused to let me see them, which made me very unhappy.

I felt like the cashier has a intention to cheat me, my receipt is attached,

PS: After lots of arguments and rebate and all sorts of excuses the waitress paid me $31 cash. I did not know paid by waitress or the company. but I still felt that they had intention to cheat me.

MAN PAID $9.80 FOR FISH CURRY, BUT HIS ORDER CAME WITH CURRY ONLY, NO FISH

0

Facebook user Jim Davies shared how he had placed an order with an eatery via Foodpanda for fish curry, and when his food order arrived, all he received was curry and no fish.

He had ordered a Chicken Masala, 2 Briyani rice, a butter naan, a fish curry and a papadum for $40.60 from an unspecified eatery on Foodpanda.

The description of the fish curry on the restaurant’s Foodpanda menu, described their fish curry as being made with “fresh, succulent fish” in “spicy and flavourful curry”, for $9.80.

The netizen said in his Facebook post: “$9.80 for plain fish curry. I guess the fish in picture is for illustration purpose.”

Netizens’ comments

  • The fish still swimming in the ocean, haven’t catch yet.
  • If going by the menu picture, then obviously missing “fresh, succulent fish”, only left “spicy n flavourful curry”. $9.80 is too expensive for just curry.
  • How is it possible come with curry without fish
  • It’s correct isn’t it? You have ordered fish curry and not fish curry with fish. Maybe fish curry with chicken
