MAN SAYS WANTS TO QUIT, COMPANY IS GOOD BUT THE SUPERVISOR IS A SERPENT FROM HELL

0

I am in my first job after close to 3.5 years and I wanted to quit badly. I need to know how do I resign without appearing confrontational.

Working in a tech sector and as a regulator is probably one of the best places to be in right now. However, I felt that my ties with my supervisor is getting from bad to worse. It’s either a case which she doesn’t understand what I said, or to simply micromanaged me, which I think it’s a blatant act of mistrust in me.

Just today, I said something and she gaslighted me by rolling her eyes.

The workplace is good, offering lots of skills upgrading and I guess that’s the reason why I persisted on. However, I don’t see myself staying there for long. I am probably just got to endure through this tech recession while using the company’s resources to upskill myself. To be honest, skills are something people will never be able to take away from you.

I intend to apply for an internal transfer or to simply leave the public sector for a job, even if I have to settle for a pay cut than to have my lifespan cut short.

I am wondering if is it a must to speak to my supervisor before I tender my resignation? Or do I just simply submit a resignation to HR and just inform her after I am done? And how do I do it without being confrontational?

Thoughts?

Here are what netizens think:

  • I would just send an email to my superior and cc HR – to tender my resignation. You are not obligated to give a reason for the resignation, as long as you fulfil the notice period (eg. One / two months notice). Put an effective date/ or last day of service. I would not put my (real) reason for resignation. And I won’t burn my bridges. The world is small, if you get to another similar industry or one day, you may meet again some time in the future, so you don’t want to put a barricade in your future path. Just my thoughts.
  • If you have made the decision to leave, then the best thing to do is to draft a simple resignation letter and first inform your boss and then send to her and HR. Do not need to state reasons like cannot stand your boss etc, just keep it professional as 1. Never burn bridges, and 2. Your boss still need to handle your exit matters, including your time during notice period and approve leave clearing, or even last pay etc. You do not need to state any personal reasons, or if you really feel the need to, can do so during the exit interview with HR on your last day, or leave glassdoor review / submit feedback after leaving.
  • I have come to realize that when one has decided to resign, there is no point persuading them to stay. Because they would already have deliberated about it for a long time (relative to the person’s perspective) before making the final decision. When I was planning to leave my job/s, I planned my exit carefully. Because I knew that I was really determined to leave and even if I were to ask to stay, things will never change and I will be going through the same vicious cycle.

SG GIRL SCARE HER FOREIGNER ‘NO FACE’ CAUSE SHE EARNS 5 TIMES MORE THAN HIM

0

Would boyfriend feel like they got ‘no face’ with girlfriend who earns much more than him?

I’m earning almost 5x of what he’s earning now. One of the reasons behind this is because he’s earning in IDR, while I’m earning SGD, tho we both share similar lifestyle and I am very thrift, I’m afraid that the income gap might be a factor that leads to the failure of this relationship.

He struggled to find a job in sg as an Indonesian and got no intention to work in sg in the near future , while I’m not sure if I am willing to give up my (comparably) high pay job to relocate to Indonesia.

Does it matter?

  • My wife earns quite a bit more than I do. I have an awesome, capable wife. Any guy that feels insecure that their partner earns more (and vice-versa) needs to learn to put their pride aside and just be happy for them lol
  • To me this appears the opposite: Seems like you do mind that he is earning less than you. For a woman it’s nothing wrong with thinking this way (don’t feel guilty, it’s hypergamy and it’s natural to think this way) and it’s a serious consideration if you want to see anything long-term with a male partner. Dark and contrarian opinion: change boyfriend, date someone who earns more than you or is better than you in areas that matter to you.
  • Sounds more like this is a ‘you’ problem and what’s more thrifty than relocating and retiring in Indonesia. Better you seek out someone that earns similar or a higher-paid man and don’t waste his time.
  • Just like some guys don’t mind their gf taller than them and some do. How would we know what your bf is thinking? Learn to be a better partner. Have an honest and open conversation with him about your thoughts instead of assuming this and that.
  • I don’t think salary issue is bigger than long distance relationship. Long distances relationship always has a limit. Maybe yours already hit the limit…..

BUS DRIVER WHO PREYED ON TODDLERS & MOLESTED LITTLE GIRLS & AUTISTIC BOY, JAILED

0

68-year-old Gary Alexander Tan, who was described as a “pedophilic school bus driver” in court, was sentenced on Wednesday (1 March) to 11 years and 7 months imprisonment.

He had pleaded guilty to 6 charges which included numerous counts of molestation, and also had 9 other charges taken into consideration during his sentencing.

Tan, a father of 3, was accused of molesting a 4 to 6-year-old girl in church sometime between 1993 and 1995, among other alleged victims.

Tan admitted in earlier court proceedings to molesting other children, including an autistic boy and another young girl.

Molestation spree

Sometime in 2006, Tan was spending the night at a friend’s home when he molested a girl between 3 and 5 years old while his friend was asleep.

He was later hired by a Kindergarten to ferry children with special needs, driving a 7-seater car in 2009 before his contract ended in 2012.

Despite his contract ending, some of the parents continued to hire him to fetch their children to and from school, including an autistic boy between 4 to 6 years old.

Tan molested the boy from 2013 to 2014.

Among Tan’s other victims include a young girl, whose age was not mentioned in court, of whom he took explicit photos – he had befriended the girl’s helper in order to get to the victim.

He took an upskirt photo of the girl after telling her maid that he would look after the girl.

Tan also asked two other helpers that he had befriended to send him explicit photos of young girls, one of whom declined; but the other maid agreed to send him after being told that he would be aroused by it.

Tan instigated that maid to send his explicit photos of her employer’s young daughter on at least 22 occasions, from 5 May to 1 November 2016.

The maid also sent tan 51 photos of another young girl, as well as 3 photos of her employer’s young son not wearing anything.

Tan drove a 9-seater van after he became a school bus driver in 2017, where he was tasked with ferrying children who had been ill-treated.

He was aware that the children were under care arrangements and signed a document to safeguard the sensitive information related to them.

One of the children was an 8-year-old girl who was physically ill-treated and was sent to live with her maternal grandparents and aunt under her care arrangements.

Tan molested her on 12 January 2019 after dropping off the other kids and filmed himself in the act.

He then molested her again on 16 January 2017 and filmed the acts, before showing the girl photos of himself in his underwear about 3 days later.

The victim told her aunt and grandparents about what happened later that month, and her mother was then alerted to it.

The police were then informed about the incident(s) on 26 January 2017 and Tan was arrested later that day, with the police seizing his phone and finding numerous upskirt videos of different victims.

GOJEK DRIVER MADE WRONG TURN, END UP DROVE INTO SWIMMING POOL @ BUKIT TIMAH CONDO

A Gojek driver ended up driving into a swimming pool at a condominium in Bukit Timah after making a wrong turn while finding his way in the rain.

A resident who lives in the condominium, Luke, witnessed the car “going for a swim” and posted a video of it on TikTok, showing the car partially submerged in the pool.

He said that the driver of the white Honda was a PHV driver who was dropping off a passenger at the condominium at the time, at about 9pm.

It was raining heavily at the time and visibility was low.

Luke said that it all started when the passenger allegedly told the driver to turn into a path that was only meant for pedestrians, and the path led to the swimming pool.

The route was only meant for pedestrians and not vehicles, and a security guard told the driver to reverse his car out of there.

The driver then proceeded to perform a three-point turn in order to leave the path, managing to turn his car onto a grass patch and somehow managed to avoid hitting the poolside chairs and tables.

However, things then took a turn for the worst when he was at the final stage of his three-point turn but he accidentally stepped on the gas, driving straight into the swimming pool.

He then tried to reverse his car out of the swimming pool but couldn’t do so because the front tyres had already gotten stuck on the stairs inside the water.

The car was eventually pulled out of the pool by a tow truck at about midnight, and the driver escaped unharmed.

MAN FELL DUE TO SLIPPERY HDB FLOOR UNTIL NEED SURGERY TO REPAIR KNEE CAP

I slipped and fell on the slippery HDB corridor along the ground floor at Block 1, Pine Close, on 3 February 2023. My right knee was hurt and I was unable to stand up or sit after the fall. An ambulance was called to send me to hospital.

Hospital doctor examined and performed a surgery to repair my right knee cap, Patella, which have broken into pieces.

This was not the first time I slipped and fell along the same corridor. I had slipped and fell few months ago. Fortunately, or unfortunately, I suffered some bruises and pain during that time.

The said corridor is very slippery as it seems to be coated with epoxy paint. The floor is even more slippery during rainy days.

I have suffered great pain and likely this injury will affect me for very long time. Till date, 23 February 2023, doctor has given me almost 60 days of Hospitalization Leave till 4 April 2023, and I have incurred thousands of dollars on the surgery, reviews and physiotherapies.

I have emailed the Town Council, HDB and our MP on 4 February 2023 (the day after the accident) and 19 February 2023, asking them to check and eliminate the safety hazard at the said corridor as I believe I won’t be the last person to slip, fall and suffer injury if nothing is done to eliminate the hazards there.

Besides the 2 emails replied by our MP stating that he has informed the Town Council to follow-up, there is no response from Town Council or HDB at all.

There seems to be a lack of urgency from the Town Council or HDB to address this matter since an accident has already occurred and notified them almost 3 weeks ago.

I would like to seek this Forum’s help to raise the awareness and hope the Town Council or HDB will act promptly.

[Updates (24-Feb-2023, 4:55pm): Town Council has replied to my email. Town Council mentioned they are currently reviewing feasible options to improve the flooring, and the works are expected to be carried out within the next two months or earlier. I will share more if there are further updates.]

ACTOR CHARLIE GOH GOT SCAMMED ON FACEBOOK – “YOU CAN SPEND MY MONEY IN HELL”

0

34-year-old Ah Boys To Men actor Charlie Goh shared on his Instagram page about how he got scammed on Facebook after he saw a sponsored ad and paid for salmon and wagyu beef but didn’t receive anything.

Goh said that he chanced upon a sponsored ad on Facebook by “Grocery retail” advertising “Top Norwegian Sashimi Salmon”, and he was interested in buying some salmon and beef.

He then paid $160 for an order of salmon and wagyu beef from the Facebook page, which was selling the salmon at $60 for 3kg and $100 for 6kg, which is almost 6 times cheaper than the market price of about $50 to $100 for 1kg of salmon.

Goh then got his neighbour to split the cost for the 3kg salmon with him, before adding another 1kg of wagyu beef into his order, with his total amount coming up to $160.

The “seller” then told him that they would make the delivery on the same day before 6pm.

However, Goh didn’t receive his order, and he tried to get in touch with the Facebook page at about 7pm and realised that they had blocked him.

He added that the page had given him a phone number to make payment via Paylah when he was checking out, and he transferred the money to the number.

He has since lodged a police report over the incident.

On the Paylah account that the scammer gave him, he said that the name is probably fake because the Paylah account name can be changed.

He added that he tried to call the Paylah number but it couldn’t be dialled, as he urged people to not fall for the same scam and to share it around.

MAN DISAPPOINTED WITH SAMSUNG’S SERVICE STAFF “DON’T CARE” IMPRESSION

0

I have been Samsung fan since 1995 or so & owned Note 1 all the way till Note 20 & recently Fold 3 (2 sets).

The recent screen quality issues with my 2 Fold 3 (around a year of usage) & wifi issues slightly after a year – made me worry about Fold series quality. Flagship & high end model with bad quality issues. To make it worst, your 2 managers’ (they claimed) services were totally disappointing, gave me a “do i care” impression.

Guess retaining customers is not important. My encounter with them made me decide to switch to iPhone now ( i have never owned an iPhone before) and will just let my 2 Fold 3 be a white elephant.

I believe electronic products will at some point in time has product quality issues BUT the most important is how you own it, admit your products has quality issue and address it for the customer. Because of your extremely poor customer service or after-sales services, you are going to lose one loyal customer. Contact me if you are keen to know the details.

From an extremely disappointed customer.

Here are what netizens think:

  • I think foldable screen smartphones are difficult to last and would spoil easily.
  • Samsung fan since 1995? Hmmmm… How come you only start getting their phone from note 1
  • Stop using Samsung it’s siht, the only thing that is good is their camera the rest is shit, stopped using Samsung for 10 years
  • Samsung service centre repaired my 3 months old note 20 ultra und they damaged my frame without even care to replace it… changed to iPhone ever since
  • yes i agreed with you after i use Samsung pixon 8mp few years back i went to the samsung service center at plaza sing 8x and they each time charge me $200 + just to repair the phone main board and change the screen even though it’s under warranty and ever since i already know that samsung phone can’t make it and their after sales service support damm sucks and ever since then i been using oppo huawei and xiaomi phone and never looked back ever again because samsung customer service never improved

COLLEAGUE SEND HIS “7-INCH ANACONDA D-PICTURE” TO ATTRACT FEMALE COLLEAGUES

0

Asking on behalf of someone I know.

A guy (let’s call him B) aged late-30s to 40s from another department kept texting his younger female colleague (someone I know – we shall call her A) for explicit pics, which of course she ignored, and got scolded by him. He said he loves smooth and fair-skinned chinese girls.

He also apparently sent her d pics (which he said “sent you my 7-inch pic already and you ignored?”) but she didn’t see the pictures. She has either been ignoring him or told him to stop it and to respect her many times but to no avail.

In the past, he will give remarks when she wears a dress to office about her legs and would Skype her “I wonder how wild can you be”.

This has been going on since Jul 2022, but A kept quiet, as she needed to liaise with him for work-related matters. He is the main person in his team.

She is contemplating reporting him to HR but fear retaliation by him like taking revenge and hurting her.

Incidentally, A isn’t his first target. Another chinese girl reported him but he is still in the company. Shockingly, he was still promoted even after the incident!

What should she do?

Here are what netizens think:

  • 1. Collect evidence discreetly. Record his comments, save screen prints of the inappropriate sexual advances.
    2. Go to police and HR with all the evidences.
    3. Men who doesn’t know how to stay out of other people’s comfort zone and boundaries, need to be taught a lesson.
  • 1. Report police First
2.then report to HR WITH THE POLICE REPORT. This is the only way to make HR take action coz sadly sg hr wont do f all until they are cornered.
  • If she kept the evidence, criminal charges can be pressed. You can see how unrepentant B is…kena complained once before and still doing this. Getting away with it hasn’t made him wiser…it’s emboldened him. If she doesn’t enforce her boundaries, working there may very well become untenable pretty soon.
  • If this is civil service, just air it out with real evidence on social media. Create a separate account and blow it on twitter or something. I’ll be sitting her with pop corn.

GIRL GOT JOB OFFER WITH 15% PAY RAISE, WANTS 3% MORE BUT REJECTED, NOT HAPPY

0

Is it a red flag if the potential employer wasn’t able to match just a 3% counter offer? I received a job offer with a 15% increase from my current salary.

They use my current salary as a benchmark (I verbally communicated my current package since they said it was mandatory as intent to offer).

It is a different industry, the role is largely similar but a more senior title. After research, new offer was slightly below market average so I requested for a mere 3% extra. HR said Hiring Manager declined and said the initial offer of 15% hike is their best offer.

I felt disappointed that they aren’t able to even match this. It’s my first time negotiating an offer as I do not want to feel shortchanged again after my previous experiences.

Am I expecting too much and should just accept?

Netizens’ comments

  1. I don’t think you know what the word counteroffer means.
  2. No it’s not. They can reject your counter offer. 15% is decent. If you are not happy you can reject their offer
  3. Well, with the economy being s*it, i myself also took a job with 0% increment albeit i was jobless la. But its your choice.
  4. Its disappointing but not a red flag.

How to negotiate for a better job offer

When you feel confident about your skillset and you’re ready to take the next step in your career, negotiating for a better paying job offer is essential. Negotiating gives you the opportunity to make sure you’re compensated fairly for the job you’re doing, and it can be a great way to maximize your earning potential.

Before entering into any negotiation, it’s important to do your research. Take the time to understand the current market rate for your position, as well as the salary range for similar positions in the same industry. This will help you know when it’s time to push for a higher salary and which points are worth negotiating for.

Once you have a good understanding of the market rate and salary range, it’s time to start negotiating.

Be confident:
Don’t be afraid to stand your ground and ask for what you’re worth. Employers respect confident candidates who know the value of their skills and are willing to negotiate.

Be prepared to compromise:
If a higher salary isn’t possible, consider negotiating for other benefits such as additional vacation time or a flexible work schedule.

Be professional:
No matter how much you may want to get the best job offer possible, it’s important to remain professional during negotiations. Keep your tone polite and avoid making personal attacks.

Be patient:
Negotiations can take some time, so be patient and don’t rush into any agreements.

Finally, remember that negotiating for a better paying job offer is a process and it takes time. Be prepared to make compromises and take your time to ensure you get the best possible offer.
